Dennis at A-1 Transmissions is awesome. I brought my wife's car in for a transmission service and diagnostic and they did an awesome job. Rather than trying to overcharge me or sell me something I didn't need, he was honest and did an excellent job on the transmission service being done on her car. I am bringing my Jeep in as well for work and will continue to do so for all of our mechanical needs. Excellent service, honest and straight-forward, and they do awesome work.

I’m not sure where to start. I dropped my car off at the shop at 8am and no one was there even though they open at 8. I had made an appointment over 10 days in advanced to get a simple diagnosis as to why my car was having trouble shifting. I dropped my car off and then they didn’t call me the whole day. The next day, I tried calling the shop 5 times before someone answered and the guy that answered had to ask me what I needed with my car even though I already explained it. They had done nothing. He said he would call before noon the next day. He didn’t. The next day, I called over 6 times before someone answered. They gave me a very vague description as to what was wrong and that they were “ordering parts” even though all I was looking for was a diagnostic. They also wouldn’t give me a price to the fix. After this many red flags, I decided to just go and pick my car up as I was uncomfortable with how they were doing business. I went to the shop and everything about it raised so many flags. The printer wasn’t working so the guy at the desk asked if he could text me the code they pulled with the issue. The code didn’t give me any helpful info and then they charged me 187.50$. The worst part is my car was making more noises then before I even took it in and the check engine lights and others are now not going off. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

We had a very special birthday celebration for my son planned this weekend. My car had some problems on Thursday, and Dennis had my car fixed by Friday evening, so we were able to continue on with our plans. No need to even look for anyone else to work on your vehicle, Dennis and his crew do quality work and are so nice to work with. They have fixed my transmission, water pump and also do brake work. My family depends on them for all our vehicle needs. Thank you Dennis.

Don’t deserve any stars, had to click one to post. Worse service ever. My car had a bad jerk and leaking power steering fluid. Fixed the power steering issue. Had to take my car back to fix the jerking never fixed the issue. Someone took my battery out of my vehicle and they left my window down and had rain all over my vehicle. Tried to get in touch with the owner, phone wasn’t in service anymore and went back the next day they didn’t have any electricity. Finally spoke with girlfriend to get me another battery. Worse ever.

Took a couple of extra days to fix my transmission but so worth the wait. End product was a completely rebuilt transmission that was better than when it came off the lot new. They rescued us when we were broken down on the side of the road and took care of us every step of the way. The price was unbeatable!!! Thank you. We will definitely send business your way A-1.

This shop goes by Hubbards auto service now. But worst service I’ve ever received. I called the day before and told him what I needed fixed. Two other shops told me the same issue but couldn’t fix it for two weeks. I dropped the car off the next morning and my dad told him that the other shops said make sure it’s calibrated afterwards. I go back to the shop at 5pm and my truck hadn’t moved. I go i to the office and he says sorry to tell you but you need a transmission. I explained that the transmission just got replaced 2 months ago. And he’s like well it won’t reverse. I told him it went in reverse before I got here and i put it in reverse to park it when I left, he told me to call my warranty because the transmission is done and he can rebuild it i said sir nothing is wrong with my transmission and moved my truck with no problem to pull into the garage. He then put it on a machine and said oh this needs to be replaced. I said I know that’s what I said yesterday on the phone. I went to Pinkerton to pick up the piece and they were closed so I went to oriellys and bought the piece. I came back and he said you need to replace your gear shift. I said no I don’t he said these trucks are known for having issues with that. I said well mine doesn’t. He put the piece I bought on and we went into the office for me to pay. He said you need an oil change or anything and I told him no he laughed and said just this part ain’t it. I paid and went to pull off. As I was pulling off I realized he moved quick. So I called and said did you recalibrate it. He said I forgot come back real quick. I go back he puts it on a machine and an abs light comes one and check engine (lights that were never there before). I explained that those lights were never on. He lifts the car and said oh ABS light is on because you need a Hub Beating. I explained that it was never on before so why is it just magically on now. I asked him could it be on because he forgot to recalibrate it. He replied and said oh yea I don’t have the system to recalibrate it. I then asked why would he even do the work if he didn’t have the system. He then said I told him that ABS light had been on. I told him to stop putting words in my mouth because no lights were on my dash before he put his hands on my truck. He is one of the most sheisty, conniving mechanics I’ve ever dealt with in my life. Do not take your vehicle to your shop even if it’s your last option. Better off driving your car however it is driving. Would give it negative stars if I could.

Memorial weekend (Vet btw) Was working on rebuilding my A727 and cracked a select washer made of fiber. Probably a million of them laying around tranny shops just in Virginia. Called A-1 to see if they had one to sell or a used one…nope….Your a tranny shop right?…yup…..you don’t have one? ……snuggly Nope. Any other shop would have told me to come on over and get one, got tonnes of them…but they are all closed this weekend. I wouldn’t go there, send anyone there, or piss on the building if it was on fire with them in it!

Had my car worked on for a clutch issue 3700 worth. It took over a month to get it back just to have to Uber back home because they said it was finished but when I got the the car was not shifting correctly so it stayed a couple more weeks then I got it back again to drive it about 200 miles just for the same issue to occur. I've called several times and now I'm blocked so I'm longer able to call and he said he would pick up the car to fix but hasn't called or showed. That's alot of time and money I've been out of a car and I'm still out of a car since October.

Came from out of town and my van decided to not start. I ended up being able to finally get it to start and called A-1 because I saw they were open late and on Saturday. Dennis and Rodney were very accommodating and stayed past their normal closing time in order to help me and my family have our van back for the rest of the trip. I really appreciate them going above and beyond, and I would definitely come back should I need service while in Lynchburg again.

Do not take your car here they stole money medication and a pair of ray bans from my wife's vehicle. Also they used a full tank of gas driving it around. It had a cracked bumper that wasn't there before dropping it off they lost my oil cap and my engine cover. I brought it there to have my transmission rebuilt and it's worse than ever now I have the abs light on the trac control light the check engine light and some other light i have never seen. They were working on my 2018 dodge grand caravan with just over 100k that we have never had issues with before. We had a slight jerk in shifting and dennis told us that he could fix the issue. NOT TRUE I have loose motor mounts now and the engine twists when putting the car in gear it clanks and shakes. They messed up the rack and pinion and tie rods, my entire steering wheel is crooked. Dennis was working on another vehicle of ours at the same time and was arrested for stealing the truck and getting pulled over in it he wrecked our truck and busted the tail light out he let some lady drive my truck to the liquor store while it was supposed to be getting fixed this is a terrible shop run

This place is the best in Lynchburg. My boyfriend ,dog and I go out to smith mountain lake camping a lot and this was our unlucky time. Oil cooler housing broke and we had to get a tow, we came here. Dennis went above and beyond for us on a SUNDAY of all thing and found a part unfindable. Fixed it and we were on the road less than 24 hours. Solid guy and shop. I'd trust this place more than my mechanic in Va beach,and they even fixed my license plate and washed and detailed our suv.happy to tip them extra large!!! All love guys 💙💙💙

These guys really went above and beyond for me! I was stuck out of state in VA I'm from Illinois. They moved me into their rotation and got me back on the road after rebuilding my transmission. My vehicle I was driving was a nightmare, it kept breaking down and they got me back on the road and back to my 8 mo. pregnant fiancé. I was actually hauling a very heavy car up and down mountains plus I had to drive like 800 miles cross country. I stand by the work they did for me. If you live out of state you may have to pay extra for a warranty, but it's totally worth it! These guys truly are A1! I named the truck MF Jones because it screwed me over so much! Great establishment! The mechanic Dennis talked to me about what needed to be done & even guaranteed he would have my vehicle done by Tuesday, I dropped it off Monday afternoon. By Tuesday evening my vehicle was fixed & even detailed! Dennis did an excellent job. Will definitely be going back to see him whenever I have mechanical issues.

I was traveling with my dogs when the check engine light came on. I needed a couple spark plugs replaced but it was a bigger job than I was prepared for. At 4:30 on Saturday afternoon, I was getting turned away from every garage until I called A-1. The owner had me come in and William stayed late to make sure I made it safely to my destination. They were very accommodating and fair.
