Extremely disappointing experience. Came in for an inspection and was given an inflated repair estimate. Parts like control arms were quoted at nearly 3x the price Tesla charges directly. Argonaut also recommended unnecessary repairs, including replacing struts on a 4 y/o vehicle with no signs of wear, based solely on a noise that traced back to the control arms. To make matters worse, my car was damaged while in their care. The interior cloth door pillar was stained with brake dust or dirt, which is now permanently marked. When I asked if they’d address it (after initially saying they’d just make a note of it), they came out with a rag and vinyl cleaner, which would’ve likely made the stain even worse. I’ve also spent nearly a week trying to speak with a manager (Jason) to discuss the experience. Despite my outreach and promises from them of a callback, I’ve heard nothing. EDIT: Went to the Tesla Service Center for a second opinion and it turned out to be a loose bolt on the upper control arm, an issue that Tesla resolved for just $175 (invoice attached). Not only did Argonaut misdiagnose the problem, but they also recommended $5,000 in unnecessary repairs, including replacing the lower control arms and struts. Whether this was due to negligence or something more intentional, it raises serious concerns about the trustworthiness of their service.

Charged me 50$ for an inspection just to tell me they don’t know what the damage is. Unsure if they even took a good look at it, when I asked about an obvious dent in my muffler they said they hadn’t even seen it.

It is rare to find such a well-run, clean, beautiful and GENEROUS garage/mechanic. I’d been searching for a simple hutch strut replacement and the prices were dumb high at the dealer, my former garage etc. I was driving down San Pablo Ave and noticed how “attractive “ Argonaut was. Great logo, great signage, clean, bright. I pulled over on a whim and went in. I was immediately impressed with the design sense and cleanliness of the shop. Clearly they cared and went extra to make a warm, pretty and comfortable experience for the guest. Hospitality!!!! I’m so wary of mechanics and being overcharged— but this place really shines as a superior option to a lot of mediocre shops. They offered me the best price out of six inquiries— Almost half of what most places were asking. They had an amazing coffee machine with almond milk, free water, a comfortable, waiting area with nice design sense and really great staff!! Fast, fair priced and lots of extra good vibes. Best experience yet at a Berkeley Mechanic. Brought my Carvana Soul Kia 2019 EV that I was thinking of buying for an inspection. First time for me to drive an EV. They did the inspection, documented everything with photos, patiently went over all my battery related questions, and explained the frequency of routine maintenance - which is very infrequent. No effort to upsell me. All for $175. I was quoted $300 at a Kia dealership. They even provided a Lyft ride back to me house. Very easy communication. Love this place!!!

Philip helped me out with my 1983 Chrysler Lebaron, he was extremely helpful and very friendly. I had an AC system conversion done for a good price and handled with care. My AC now blows cold and I’m ready for the summer. The complimentary baseline inspection gave me some insight into some underlying issues in the car and Philip explained them thoroughly and the recommended actions. Absolute rip. Went there for an 8 hour inspection. Was told the exhaust needed to be replaced. Went and did that. Then the check engine light came back and it was the exhaust again, wanted to charge me well over 5k for that and a catalytic converter. Looked up the exact price and model of the catalytic converter and they were up charging 400 and found the most expensive model. When I asked why this wasn’t seen prior to it getting to this point I was told it was because it was “hard to pin down” and the “smoke showed no signs” despite a catalytic converter being very easy to see. It’s right under the car for crying out loud. Then the story changed to after market parts. They’re a rip, inconsistent, and do not know what they’re doing. I wouldn’t go even if someone paid me to go.

Our 2014 plug-in hybrid volt had the charger plug stuck in the port. It turned out one of the pins had melted. A complete inspection revealed some other issues and needed maintenance. We went through the estimate discussing what we could wait with and had additional maintenance done. We found them to be transparent, clear, reasonable and knowledgeable. We will be back.

Jason agreed to work on my 34 year old F250 pickup after it sat idle for over a year. It sat idle because I couldn’t find anybody to fix it. It just quit running one day and after that it had to be towed. Most places would not even allow it to be towed to their shop. Jason had the confidence to accept it and he and his team got it running again. They have be my mechanics for over a year and I must say they never let me down. This recent service being a case in point. Joshua at the front desk accepted my truck for service and diligently kept me informed. This old truck does have its share of issues and Argonaut is exemplary at doubling down to address them. They listened to me. I would like to point out that the technician, Sam Morris and Josh Martinez, Service Adviser went the extra mile to correct some idling issues and to get the old 250 running like a top again. I had a leaky tire that required visiting 3 times. It was frustrating but Sharleena assisted me gracefully. I had been filling the tire every day for a year and finally decided to get it fixed during an oil change. After the first fix it kept leaking and I still had to fill it every day. Unfortunately I was busy and took a week to bring it back. They assumed it was a new nail instead of a nail they missed and refused to warranty their work. After the second fix, less than 2 days in, it went flat again. I brought it in and they found a 3rd nail. They insisted they couldn’t have missed that too and it must be new. This was a good lesson for me to find the leaks myself next time, and tell them how many there are during the first visit. Else their technicians will just repair the first nail they find. They likely do not put the tire into a water tank to confirm no more leaks. Maybe they will adopt that procedure one day. I appreciate their professionalism. The general manager is trained on the technical side of things too. They extensively use technology to run their garage. They provide an upscale service. Just keep in mind they are fallible just like any mechanic service. They are also too trusting of their quality assurance process. Edit: They are a honest garage so 5 stars.

This was my first visit. I’d been to two auto mechanics to get a rear break job and because of seize drums on the wheel cylinder neither could remove it. This place could and did! I’m very impressed with their complete service and diagnostic skills. I have other issues suggested and organized into most important first and what to watch for. As a person that knows little about car repairs this is so comforting. The prices are fair and everything is clean. The best customer service ever!

Impressive auto service! My 2013 Subaru was driving rough and very noisy. I'd taken it to a Subaru dealership routinely, but none of these problems seemed to get fixed. Argonaut quickly diagnosed the problem, and in just a day, my car is running smoothly and quietly again. What a relief. Great communication with plenty of info on the condition of the car during the service. Very impressed. I'll be back.
