Horrible customer service, store doesnt open on time and are unfair. I had to pick up a car at 8am employee didnt show up until 8:39am,it took about 40 mins for me to leave the place and when i went to drop off the car at the port Hueneme at 9.30am the person at the P.H location charged me an extra day claiming i was supposed to dropoff the car at 8am. Unethical company and employees, locations are also very dirty specially the one in oxnard. It looks like crap and so does the manager.★★★★★ 9 years ago

So unbelievably preposterous. Marvin, who heads the Avis desk there got everything wrong. I returned the car after one day with a full tank, later to find out I was billed for three and $50 in fuel. So all-in-all, my one day white Toyota Sonata rental (which was dirty, btw) cost me $296.86. I needed this car because I was in a crash. Thanks Avis. Marvin wrote down my phone number incorrectly so I couldn't be contacted and wrote down someone else's email address in my file also. The guys doesn't know what he is doing. I called him and he told me to contact costumer service. I seriously recommend staying away from this particular Avis. This is my first experience with them, but something tells me it's not Avis, just this particular guy who has his head up his ass. Either that, or he's somehow trying to con people. horrendous! had to file a fraudulent/unauthorized charge back with my bank! rented a car to be dropped off in another city with understanding if i brought it back to van nuys there would be no drop off charge. i brought it back next day but since i needed to rent another car in a few days, the office owner said she would switch me to a weekly rate. i agreed. problems started when the car would not start in the morning on the third day. i called the office and was told to have the avis/budget roadside service pick the car up and they would adjust the price because the car rental was cut short after 3 days. turns out they charged me for the entire week, plus EXTRA charges for THEIR battery going out, and to have them retrieve the car. they said because i did not get 'accident' insurance, I WAS RESPONSIBLE for their car not starting in the morning, and any subsequent tow charges...something i've never encountered before. even my bank thought this was insane. i never signed any paperwork agreeing to the weekly charge since i only had the car for 3 days, and yet they charged my card for the entire week plus charges for their car not working, which was not due to any accident or event, it just wouldn't start after being parked over night. my bank was incredulous and took the unauthorized charge complaint. i have never been so maltreated by a business, and had money stolen from me like this, with an unauthorized charge for something i didn't sign for, didn't use, i didn't get. this is the budget/avis (same franchise) at this location. as a note, the corporate customer service for avis/budget was of NO help as they simply referred me back to the franchise office (independently owned) which would not return my calls, said they were too busy to talk about the issue, and simply charged my card for service i did not recieve.★★★★★ 10 years ago

If I could give a negative star I would. When I told him I would not pay him $50 cash he got very upset and said that he could charge me up to $200.00 but that he was giving me a break and only charging me "$50.00 cash". If you come to rent a car from Avis, at the 14806 1/2 Oxnard Street, Van Nuys ,CA. Location....please ask for Norman J. He was absolutely the best! It was a very busy day, he had his hands full with people returning damaged cars, and lack of cars to rent because of it being a holiday weekend! I had reserved a mini van for my trip and with insurance it was coming out more than what I could place on my credit card! Norman was very kind, understanding, and made my rental experience easy, in fact he worked very hard to reduce the final cost of my rental to save me money, I call that Fantastic Customer Service! Even under pressure! , if and when I rent again, it will be with Norman! That man works hard for every client, and he deserves a raise for all he does. Norman... I just purchased a beautiful, fully loaded Ford Fusion Titanium from this Avis location. Avis's car sales department, which is located right next door to their rent a car location. I worked mostly with Moses and finished up my financing with Gevik. These guys were great and worked hard to get me wrapped up while answering all of my tedious questions with patience and expertise. Moses even had the car rewashed and cleaned up before I left the lot. Renting a car here is inconvenient if you're the only customer and downright painful if there happens to be anyone else present. I was first told they might not have a vehicle ready (despite having made a reservation a month in advance), the vehicle itself was dirty, the tank was not full, and the entire process took 30+ minutes when, as a Preferred member, one expects to hop in the car they select/update in the app. Yet somehow at this location it was as if Avis had never heard of me and all my information didn't exist in their systems. This was legit time traveling back to the 90s when everything was done on paper, initials and signature required on forms that printed from a dot matrix, identification requested and basic personal questions asked, with numerous updates made into the computer. I guess if you're willing to act like it's your first time doing business with this company, they will eventually get you a car - but if you have any illusions of being recognized as a returning customer who rents dozens of cars a year in a relatively efficient and expeditious manner, the experience here will be the equivalent of having teeth pulled.★★★★★ 2 years ago

Avis was the first rental place I have ever used and they made it so easy the first couple years. However, the last couple times have been a nightmare. Last week I needed to rent a car and 40 minutes before my pick up time they called to say they had no cars available. How is that possible? We booked this reservation a month in advance. I would think a car rental place would take into thought about making sure reservations would be honored. They called around and found us a car at the Tarzana location from the Van Nuys location. We were told they were holding the car for us, we tried calling Tarzana ourselves to double check cause I already had a bad feeling about it and they would not pick up the phone for over 20 minutes. We called Van Nuys as well and no answer. We get to Tarzana and what would you think they don’t have our reservations nor a car. They didn’t even recall the phone call the other store had with them. We are clearly upset and they offer a car finally (I thought they didn’t have a car available??) and told us we FOR SURE NEEDED to bring it back by this time tomorrow cause they had an important reservation. You guys clearly messed up with OUR reservation. Why is this next one so important you have to tell us that? We called customer service and they offered a free day (woo I guess) we are already and hour and half late and with LA traffic you know that means so much. We had Another reservation this weekend and were told that we can have someone else pick it up and they have done this for us before at the van Nuys location. I get there and I’m told no that they would never do that, they literally have done it before and they told me maybe it was for that time only and they never mentioned that before. I would understand if they did us a solid a first time but be so for real say that then. Avis is definitely the most affordable and I appreciate all the help they have done before. But I don’t know what’s going on now if days that this is just ridiculous.
