TLDR: Spent $8000 on un-needed repairs that only damaged car. I recently bought a 2009 mini cooper from a nice old couple that had been taking care of it for 4k, as of 2021 they even had the engine replace (pics provided) ...... A little while into driving it an error code 031 came on for an emissions issue, I wanted to take it in to have the windshield wiper motor replaced, a new fuel filter, and a new battery installed anyways so I thought Byrd's would be able to help Once I brought my car in they told me that if I didn't repair the engine it would die on me very soon, Oh no. I plan on keeping the car for a while so I agreed, that was my mistake for they then wanted me to buy a new camshaft and crankshaft, oh and a new timing chain, or and a new oil pan cause they ..found a bolt in there?..... oh and we need 2k upfront for the parts. I found all this strange because there was no knocking or rattling or any issues with the engine that was installed in 2021, I even had all the previous invoices from the other mechanics. But we are told to trust others and my autism tends to lean too far in that direction, for that I take some blame for what these interactions would cost me. After they tacked on all they thought they could I was left with a 5 thousand upsell on parts I never wanted nor suspect I needed, seeing as now my car does have a slight rattle whereas before it ran smoothly, nice. A week passes and my check engine light comes on once again. Error code 031 emissions. I yet again stumble back to this place thinking surly, this must be a mistake, some cosmic joke played upon yours truly to the tune of 5k. I assume they , a business of integrity , must have overlooked sometime. I return. Digging under my hood once again for the elusive issue determined to find more money, they hit me back with more repair guesses, Along with the best spark plugs money can buy and $120 per ignition coils to soup up my ride and certainly will fix my car... that'll be 2 thousand dollars. Funny, they fixed those in 2021 as well... I was assured that they were worth the cost cause, warranty. He even did another oil change for me and added on charges for work he didn't do, when I pointed out that I was being overcharged I got a discount... of the overcharge amount. Car stall out in taco bell drive through that evening. Saturday work, hot day, work in sun, off at 4:30........ Car Dead..... jump no start..... sad.... lose car for weekend locked in work yard. Tuesday morning I go to get car going... starts up rough but I manage to limp to Walmart. I finally get that new battery I wanted, Installed it. Drove back to work. After work, Cars dead. I call Byrd's and they say not to worry about cost they'll send someone to get it. Tow Truck driver asked if I pay him and I said Bryd's said they have it.... No car all week, handycapped mom drives me to and from work cause they have no loaner car for me to use. Why god, I just wanted a fuel filter, battery and a new windshield motor. But now its the starter and that's another 700 dollars in...... Fine, Fix my car please. After looking at the old documents the nice couple gave me when I bought the car all these repairs were already performed in 2021..... If I didn't suffer from mental illness I would have looked at the old paperwork first and been like hey My car don't need that. But I just wanted my car looked at and the few things I wanted replaced, Replaced, They failed me. Got car back, Sped up at green light. Error Code 031 Emissions. Rattles in engine now makes me sad Bought for 4k Broke for 8k UPDATE: Saturday 6/14/2025 Car Broken at work, wont turn over again. I took it to a Licensed Mechanic. They say the CAS unit is faulty ,which I told Byrd's was the cause before they needlessly swapped the starter. They also found leaks in my engine.... the one I paid 5k for Byrd's to service.

They did a very thorough diagnostic on a 1999 Ford E-450 I bought for my business and replaced all the parts necessary to make it safe to drive. They were very up front with me about what else needed attention and the priority of each thing. They kept good communication throughout. Thank you Jonathan! This van is part of my livelihood, I definitely appreciate a fair and honest mechanic. I've had plenty of bad experiences with mechanics in the past and I'm happy to report that was not the case here. I couldn’t find anyone to work on my 1985 El Camino. Apparently mechanics need a computer to tell them how to work on cars these days. Byrd’s said they could do it and they did. I was very satisfied with the updates and communication throughout the process. They were upfront and honest. You don’t see very much of that these days.
