To the shop: when a customer says they're going to bring a vehicle in it's good form to let them know it's going to be several days before you can even look at the car instead of finding out the hard way. Uber is expensive. It also makes it seem like you really don't care about your potential customers, though your negative attitude on the phone should have been my first indicator that this wasn't the shop for me. To any potential customers: not very friendly people and they seem content to waste your time. I would look for a shop that will tell you up front if there will be delays in working on your car (the ones I called after did so).

I almost don't want to tell people about D&S. They're that good. If everyone knows, imma have to wait that much longer when my cars need fixed. But seriously, they deserve all the respect.

I go to take my 2009 Honda Accord to D & S Automotive Repair for an oil change, have them look at my brakes, and investigate my car clicking 4 or 5 times before it starts instead of 3 times. I drop off my car and borrow someone else’s car while my car sits there. The reviews looked great, but I take my car here and my visit was not as I expected. I knew I might have to wait for a day or two before they could even diagnose my car, and was expecting it to be worth the wait and get cheap prices for quality parts, based on looking at other reviews on this place. It turns out that it is not worth the wait. Their diagnosis was that I had bad front brake pads, bad front rotors, bad front calipers, and bad front brake hoses. They also said that my car needed new fluids. This is the exact same stuff that the dealer told me back in February, except it was the rear brake pads, rotors, and calipers! I got the rear brake stuff done for $1,000 at the dealer! The dealer told me that the front brake pads and rotors were in need, but not the calipers, and I declined because it would’ve been another $500 just to fix those. At D & S, the front ones cost $919, not much cheaper than the rear ones at the dealer. What a ripoff! I found someone who could fix this for less than $500 if this is what the problem is with my front brakes. D & S said that my transmission would blow up if I continue to drive my car! Also, I got no diagnosis on the car clicking 4 or 5 times before starting. Buyers, beware! I do not trust D & S Automotive Repair and will never be going back again! Edit: I will also mention the fact that I was charged $107 just to pick up my car even though they didn’t do anything on my car. This place could be breaking the law. I saw no sign saying that you would have to pay to pick up your car anywhere. That is what state law says. I saw no sign saying that I had to pay $107 to pick my car anywhere in the building that I know of. To the claim that I never called in advance and dropped my car off out of nowhere is only partially true. I called a week in advance and asked if I could drop off my car Monday or Tuesday of the following week without a clear time. They said that I could bring it in. They always talk down to people who write bad reviews. It is not proper etiquette and unprofessional. This type of conduct makes me want to downgrade my review to zero stars if I could, but one star is as low as it will go. I got my car fixed by a mobile mechanic. The person that fixed my car said that the only problem with my car was that the transmission fluid was low. He put in more transmission fluid and my car runs like it should. It was only $120 for the transmission fluid and an oil change.

I had a lot of work done on my truck at another mechanic and after I got the truck back, it just didn't drive right. It had a hard time picking up, shifting gears, and there was no power. I took it back to the original mechanic who said everything seemed fine but I felt the truck acting differently. I took it to Mr. Transmission for a second opinion as I thought it was a transmission issue and ultimately they referred me to D&S as it was not. D&S looked over the truck and noted it was an easy fix and fixed it within the day! I don't typically trust mechanics but these guys were professional and definitely trustworthy. Thank you guys for fixing my truck.

This place is great. I started taking my cars here a few years back based on word of mouth, and I have yet to be disappointed. I have had the guys at D & S work on 3 cars over a few years now, and I always bring my cars back for anything else. They are always so kind to give me advice and input on what the problems are, what the best solution is, the cheapest solution is, and the give warnings on how to avoid problems in the future, or how to prevent similar problems in the future. They have always checked over my car for free, and told me the problems and costs of fixing these problems, then I can walk away without paying anything if I don't think it's worth the cost. They will also tell you cheaper less ideal options if you want to save money but still get the job done for the time being. They know not every customer is looking to keep their car for life, and just needs something to take them from point A to point B. They go over all options with the customer to find what's right for them. When I decide I do want them to do the work, or get parts for me, they are usually very fast getting work done same day or next day at this point (unless it's a major overhaul or requires a super rare part). They can be very busy since they are so good and great to work with, so I suggest calling ahead if you can plan on dropping a car off at a certain time. This will speed up your process even more. They've never been anything other than overly helpful and looking out for what's best for the customer. They never pressure you into anything, and always give you options, or you can even walk away without feeling pressured or guilty. I've never been lied to or tricked into paying for unnecessary repairs (like I have at other service shops). These guys are amazing, and me, my wife, my parents, and my sister all go to D & S now due to their great customer first attitude, knowledge, quick work, and honesty. I recommend them to anyone looking for an honest mechanic in Louisville. I no longer live in Hikes Point, but still go out of my way to take my cars there.

I’m SO glad I found D&S when I did! I was in a pinch when my Chevy’s water pump started leaking and they really saved my butt. Not only are their prices better than any other shop I’ve found in the Louisville/S Indiana area, but they are respectful, have great customer service, and provide even better automotive service. Seems like they do good work but it's hampered by the employees being too rushed to be able to pay attention to details their customers may try to communicate at times. Pretty normal for performance shops these days though. It's a tough business I'm sure. They did some simple work on my 370 and got it done when they said they would.

I've found D&S to be super helpful and very knowledgable. They were willing to go the extra mile to research how to do the best and longest lasting repair. I had major work done on my truck. It's clear they care about the quality of their work more than a making a quick buck. While they had my engine apart they went ahead and fixed some other minor issues which was great. Cost came in lower than expected. Will use them again.
