This is a sad/happy and long review. I use to main dykstra in plainwell when I first moved out here with my Pontiac g6. I loved them…. Until I got a new car and they tried to take advantage of the situation with A newer used car. I got a quote from dykstra auto for 3600 in plainwell on a Honda accord ex 08. They wanted to slap me in the face after I just told them I bought the car and just needed minimal done to make sure the car was in decent operating conditions. After about half a hour debating with dykstra about how I needed a oil pan set, air tube with new air box, new upper and lower control arms/ball joints, new sway link ends - I found my self at Donnie’s auto due to a reference from a close friend. Donnies replaced my sway links, fixed my oil pan plug leak, replaced oil filter gasket, new upper control arms, new air tube… 450 dollars for all of the labor and a gasket/plug Donnie’s ordered to add to my parts. Ordered parts for 400 and paid labor for 450. Car hasn’t been leaking like it was, suspension almost perfect… saved me 2000-2500 dollars. Tech advisor who quoted me 3600 from dykstra was Joshua Moore, he said he was fillin in for the original manager. Parts were priced x2 sometimes x4 the price that they’re actually listed at, online. Labor rate with dykstras parts was like 125-130/hr? 160/hr with your own parts. Donnies is 90/hr with their parts, 100/hr with your own parts (I think). But they made it as cheap as possible, to help me. It was comforting to be treated in such way. This is the one time/one guy I felt was trying to bust my bank open on labor AND part prices. Even wanted me to take out money I didn’t have and I’ve never owed money. Paid every single thing in full, but wanted to talk me into how it was a smart investment to borrow 3000 on car repairs, for a used car I just bought at 5000 with 115k miles. After breaking down and comparing prices, I don’t see a reasonable answer for this. Dykstra left me feeling hopeless and lost, Donnie’s did not. Reassurance that my car is in pretty decent condition still, despite an exhaust leak I need to attend.

It was an okay experience. The vibe I got going in there made me feel like less of a human though - because I’m female. I’m not sure if perhaps I was just insecure, but the way they looked and talked to me made me feel like I was a “clueless female” and that made me believe they could easily try and jupe me. The service ended up being fine, but I decided not to come back after the demeanor they presented. Sorry, fellas.
