Chris and the team at Holland (shouts out to Jiro!) are the honest, communicative, knowledgeable, efficient, and cool mechanics of your dreams. Off road and on road expertise. These guys are it. I'm a mechanical engineer who's never let a shop touch my custom 4x4 van (I built it myself). Unfortunately, earlier this year I hydrolocked my engine on an off-roading trip, and don't have access to a shop space to do an engine swap myself. A worst nightmare for someone like me. After scouring google and yelp looking for a well reviewed spot that works on off road rigs, Chris and the team at Holland (aka Berkeley Off-Road) were the top of my list. I went by the shop and once I saw Chris' personally built custom rock crawler and Grand Wagoneer, I knew I'd found the right people. They have not disappointed. Jiro has since swapped a new engine and transmission into my van, with Chris communicating issues along the way and letting me decide how best to move forward. Heck, they even let me know when to come see the first start (!!). Do you like your truck or car? Bring it to Holland Service. A mechanic's shop by car people, for car people. I can't begin to describe how nice it feels to know that if I need, I have a shop I trust. Priceless. Keep places like this in business.

Best shop in the Bay! I’ve brought in two difficult trucks with some non-standard issues and Chris, Trevor and Julio were all able to problem solve the issues and keep the price down as they did it. I couldn’t recommend this shop enough! Great guys working there… Chris and Robert helped me out and got my Tundra work truck back on the road in less than 24 hours after a rear end collision. I’m a contractor and a deal with a lot of different shops. I must say this is one of the best automotive repair shops I’ve ever dealt with. My spouse and I were was gifted my father-in-laws custom truck (Old Blue), which is the body of a 1955 GMC 100 series pickup on the frame of 1977 GMC pick-up, powered by a 1965 small block with all the corvette fixings. The crew at Holland (Robert, Trevor, and Jairo) were able to complete some custom repairs and upgrades to keep "Old Blue" safe and on the road. Thanks again! Chris was incredibly thorough and helped us solve multiple issues with our Subaru Outback in no time. Our rear brakes were squeaking. They were under warranty with Holland Service, so they replaced them without any issues. We also knew our front brakes needed to be replaced, so they took care of those as well. While that work was being done, Chris noticed our valve cover gasket, that we had replaced last service, was leaking again, so he replaced it under warranty. When he was fixing it, he noticed the gasket was cracked, and replaced it at cost with no labor. I couldn't be more impressed with the level of service and care provided by Chris and the team at Holland Service.

They were super helpful when I brought my '93 Sportsmobile here after finishing the 4x4 conversion to have the guys look it over. This van is my first big offroad vehicle and the folks at Holland talked through the little issues I was experiencing with me and helped me understand what to expect from the new axles and suspension. friendly and knowledgable service here, I would reccomend to anyone with a 4x4 or van that needs mechanical work. So there we were, moving my two adult sons from Iowa to the Bay area by way of a family roadtrip. I'm pulling the camper with my Ford Excursion. Stopped off in CO and there is smoke billowing from under the hood. Got it to a local mechanic and he gives us the bad news: leaky oil gasket and front end transmission leak! I live paycheck to paycheck (who doesn't these days) and we were on a tight two-week schedule to get back to Iowa. I called around to a few places in Berkeley ahead of when we'd (hopefully) make it to town. Trevor took my call and said they were pretty booked but would try to get me in the following week. Made it to our destination that Friday afternoon, and Trevor got back to me Monday morning. He explained everything, helped me prioritize what to fix versus what could wait until I got back home. Julio worked on the truck all Monday and we were back on the road the next day, only 1 day behind schedule. It was a freaking miracle. These folks were awesome, start to finish. Super nice, didn't condescend to me as a woman, didn't try to upsell me, showed compassion for my situation. I can't recommend them enough. And my son now has a mechanic in Berkeley. He'll be coming for new brake pads any day guys! Thank you again, you saved our vacation and my sanity.

Chris , the owner of Holland Service , was able to track down a noise that concerned me when driving my 03 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon . I had other mechanics check & recommended that I replace the front axles, u joints, & wheel bearings . I spent a lot of money to get those parts replaced, but the noise was still there . After a quick test drive & inspection Chris was able to find the source of the noise. It turned out to be the rear driveshaft u joint . I highly recommend Chris & his shop for any diagnosis and repairs. Thanks again Chris for your help.

In the auto service industry, both honesty and competency are key areas that are most highly valued, and this company has both. Got some suspension work done and I'm super satisfied with the results. The job was completed within the specified time and there were no issues with quality or any other concern. These guys have always done an excellent job in my experience with them. I brought my vehicle in for routine maintenance and a general inspection. After the inspection, they claimed my shocks were leaking and pressured me to purchase very expensive upgraded replacements. Suspicious of this diagnosis, I inspected the shocks myself and found no evidence of leaking. I then took my car to two additional shops, including the dealership, for second opinions. Both confirmed that the shocks were in good condition with no leaks whatsoever. I normally would accept a good faith error, but this was most likely an intentional attempt to scam me. Stay away from this shop.
