I've been taking my 1998 Toyota Camry to Jay's since I moved to Ventura four years ago. I came from Chicago where I was all too familiar with sneaky, untruthful mechanics all too willing to mislead a woman who had little interest in cars other than driving them. Yes, my car has lots of miles (248,000+) but I decided to keep it going because of its reputation for longevity. I never once was pressured by the guys to do so. In fact, recently Jay said I was pushing it and it was probably time for me to buy another car. Can you tell how high in esteem I hold these guys?

If you want an honest mechanic, this is the guy to go. He was helpful. Checked out my brakes for 15 bucks. Told me what the problem was exactly. He didn't try and pull some cryptic answer You can tell he cares about his customers. He did my brakes and they were great. This is the guy to take your cars to.

Great for old carbureted engines because Jay can get them to pass smog testing with a little tuning. Very friendly and helpful staff. This is probably common sense but make sure you get a hold of someone on the phone rather than leaving a message. I left messages that didn't get checked but when I spoke with Jay or his employees they were prompt and got the job done. Not really a problem really as long as you know this. I will definitely be coming back to Jay's for my next smog check!

I trust Jay. Period. I have a lot of cars. I have been to a lot of mechanics. In Ventura County, there are two I trust. One is Jay’s. If there isn’t a problem, he lets you know. If there is a problem, he charges you an honest price. I’ve sent my daughter there who is lazy and would rather take it to a place closer until I told her she is paying. We live in Ojai. We pass unknown amounts of mechanics on our way to Jay’s.
