The people at Pacific Motor Service are absolutely incredible. It’s the only business on the Monterey Peninsula that I would ever consider having my car serviced at. I had issues with my car while out of town and had a diagnostic report from another repair shop. I Brought my car into Pacific Coast and they found the issue was wiring damage due to rodents. The cost was significantly lower than what I had been verbally quoted at the out of town repair shop. Kyle was great to work with, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful regarding the issue with my car.

My 2006 Corolla needed a new radiator, valve cover gasket, and front brakes during a 3 day visit to Carmel. Outstanding Pre-Purchase Inspection, Even From Out of State I had an exceptional experience with Pacific Motor Service for a pre-purchase inspection on a used vehicle I was looking to buy from out of state. The team was incredibly accommodating—flexible with both the schedule and location of the inspection, which made the entire process so much easier given that I wasn't local. Rory was my technician, and he went above and beyond. The inspection was thorough and comprehensive, covering all the key mechanical and safety points. What impressed me most was Rory’s clear, detailed communication—he walked me through the results, explained everything in a way that made sense, and answered all my questions with total professionalism and honesty. I brought my car in with an apparent transmission failure. Upon inspection they basically told me it was shot and that they recommended a new transmission versus a used one. That was fine. However they told me that it would cost about $8K. Obviously I was shocked by the estimate. I then called the dealer and they quoted $6500. I could not believe Pacific Motor was that much higher in cost (23%) than the dealer was. Hence I chose a different route. Yes they are courteous and responsive, but definitely was too expensive!

On roughly Jan 7th (of 2026) or so, I called to make an appointment at Pacific Motor Service (the Monterey location) and asked what would be a good time to bring my car in where I could wait in the lobby while they performed the oil change and tire rotation straight-away. The pleasant lady on the phone told me that 1 PM would be a good time and that it would take 50 min to one hour. I said, "Great," and made an appointment for the following week. A week later, when I showed up, a small, pudgy man with a beard greeted me. I told him the pattern I would like my tires rotated in and he began to debate me about why I did not simply want to move the front to the back and the back to the front. Then he told me that his guys were out to lunch and that if I waited, it would take 2 1/2 to 3 hours before the oil change would be finished (so, roughly 4 PM). I explained that I purposely made the appointment so that I could show up after lunch was over and get in and out in an hour. When I explained that the lady on the phone had told me it would take roughly one hour for the oil change, ... he called me a liar. It was surreal .... Needless to say, I got my keys back and I will not be back. The price they were going to charge me for an oil change and tire rotation was going to be $95.31. There are plenty, ... plenty, ... of places in the Monterey/PG/Carmel/Seaside/Marina area that will do an oil change and tire rotation for $45 to $75 and take 50 minutes to do it. I do not recommend this place of business, and I will never return to here. Caveat Emptor ....
