Owned by a person, not a corporation. Conveniently located for PDR residents (I like the fact that I can walk home after I drop my car off if I don't want to wait for a ride). Seems like the guys are honest & trustworthy re: the svc they recommend. This is really important to me as a single woman... I never come away feeling like I paid an unnecessary svc. They're also very nice (especially Willie, who answers the phone, books appointments, & works as the cashier). Unlike a dealership, they work on all makes & models of cars + also have a bunch of antique cars they work on restoring (which makes the lot pretty crowded). They're very good about ordering parts that your make of car might need & can often get them that same day...unless it's something like a side mirror that has to be painted to match your car... those items have to be ordered in advance. However, they are a bit on the expensive side...not nearly as bad as the dealership for sure...but not cheap. In my opinion, you do pay extra for their convenience & good svc. Also, you have to book appointments in advance, as they only work on so many cars per day. Fortunately, they're open on Saturdays, so you don't have to miss work. πππ

I've been going here for oil changes and tire rotation for a few times now. Very friendly staff, never had any issues. I live nearby, so leaving my car there for half a day wasn't ever an issue; small place lots of business. I get it. Keep up the friendly service!

Wanted to support this local business. Was given bad customer service here but decided to give them a second chance due to it being so close and convenient. Scheduled an appointment with them then instantly unscheduled after a backhanded comment from their customer service person. Their technicians are nice but unfortunately did not receive good customer service at the front desk.

I was referred to Playa West Automotive by a previous boss who spoke very highly of them about a year after I bought my 2013 Nissan Rogue. I was very satisfied then with their work, and costs for parts and labor was quite reasonable to be honest. I actually have a mobile mechanic who I've used for years for repairs that donβt require a machine and I will continue patronizing him. I only go to the Nissan dealership for routine oil changes, wiper blades, tire rotations. These repairs are nominal since I have a service dept membership which keeps costs down. I typically leave there with a bill under $80 bucks. They do recommend costly repairs citing my car needs this and that but that's where PWA comes in. After my first positive experience with them, I decided I would take my car there for a tune-up. Needless to say my car needed a lot of work which I wasn't quite prepared for the expense so I decided to only have the Drive Belt replaced as they recommend. Their prices went up since my last visit but still less than the dealership & what I like most about PWA is their friendliness and wonderful customer service.

I'm a very mistrusting person so it was a leap of faith for me to try a new auto mechanic. I couldn't be more pleased. Willie, their Service Writer, was fabulous. He kept me updated on the vehicles progress and delivered exactly as promised. Many, many thanks to Andy, WIllie and their team.

An interesting experience for an oil change. The place is easily accessible so I went in after reading good reviews on Google. I had left my car with them on a Saturday and had to wait the whole day for it to get done even though I was told it would be done by midday. I had to call in multiple times to get a hold of the person who was taking care of my car. However, I spoke with the owner Andy the week after, who had taken a day off that Saturday. He explained to me that he's trying out some new people and that Saturday had been a mess. So the next Saturday I brought my car in because I had asked them to fix my turn signal and a flat tire (which they didn't have time to do when I brought it in for an oil change) and he fixed it within half an hour. Andy was great, very pro active about the whole thing. Love this place!

Not something I usually do but have to share my experience with these guys. Got an appointment over the phone, spent 30 minutes providing all my vehicle and personal information to get an appointment at 7am on a Monday. Due to work, sent my mother (who doesnβt speak well English) to drop off my car at their location. The owner sees my car and has no information whatsoever. Speak to my mother in the most rudely way then get on a call with me and yells at me for not providing my vehicle information prior to bringing it. Very unfortunate to see this in Playa Del Rey - Never experienced anything close to this with other mechanics or service provider.

Fantastic service. I went to Playa West Automotive after being in a car accident. The customer service was amazing from the beginning to end. Getting an estimate was quick and easy. Being a woman I worry about shops trying to scam me because I am a woman who doesn't know anything about cars. The guy that wrote my estimate went over everything in my estimate with me. He explained what everything meant. He said it would take about a week to week and a half and would try to get it back to me ASAP. To my surprised he called me in the fourth day to say that it would be ready that afternoon. It was done Early. When I picked up my car, I couldn't even tell that I had ever been in an accident. It was as good as new. This shop is great. Reasonable prices, very trustworthy, and great results!

I am not to use to write comments but I had a bad experienced this today I went to the shop this morning and the front guy he is not so accommodating he asked me if I have an appointment I said no. And he keep on insisting I will not have your car ! I canβt have your car ! I said ok Then I just wanted to inform him that I brought the car last January and fix the screws underneath my car and fell off the screws. He replied that I maybe hit a deep road and I answered to him why you didnβt secured it properly . And he said it happened all the time and I need to pay again!!! I will never return to this shop again!!!β Or recommend. π‘

I went in to get my brakes examined, and they said that there wasn't anything wrong. So far so good - I appreciated the honesty. However, I noticed that after they gave me back the car the low tire light was on. I found that disconcerting because when I had dropped it off four or five hours earlier, it wasn't on. After an hour so the pressure dipped even lower. So I figured it must have happened while it was in their hands, as I live just one minute away - and at the rate the pressure was dropping, it was very recent. Long story short, they didn't even accept the possibility that they had sent my car away with more problems then when I had brought it in - and charged me to fix the tire. (I also noticed the ABS light flash on for the first time in a long time, so I'll keep an eye on that one.) Whatever new problems they sent me away with, I'm not returning to this place to fix. I can't say I trust this place.

I wish I could give it 10 stars! This place is great. We just bought a classic mustang and brought it in here to get updated (added seatbelts, disk brakes, etc.) and Andy provided the most reasonable quote, was very communicative, and took care of the car just like his own. I'm so glad to have found this place and look forward to many years of a very positive relationship to come.

Expensive - i call and tell them i just want "this part repaired" they insist on we can't just fix that, we need to do a review of the car etc. Come on... I am telling you what I want done...just do it! Lots of other reliable shops in the area as well. Nice people just wouldn't take my car there. Sounds like they are trying to get every penny out of the customer.

Untrustworthy. A money grab. "Recommendations" were overpriced and unnecessary according to two other trusted mechanics. Andy thought he had a live one with an $800 quote for a $200 brake job, a full 18 months before the pads are expected to wear out. He quoted over $600 for "transmission service" which is two bottles of $75 fluid. Fuel injection was recommended when it's not applicable to my car, yet he had a hefty quote for it. Astoundingly, the labor charges were more than the 'parts' for a fairly simple job (oil change and replace a coolant hose). There are too many decent (& mobile) mechanics out there to justify throwing your money on a business with such a ridiculous level of dishonesty. Definitely not "one of the good ones"

Although I don't know much about cars, I always go to this particular place whenever I have issues with my electric car's tires. There's one person there who has always been incredibly helpful with ensuring my tires are in good shape. Thanks to their efforts, I was able to save $500 by having a tire patched instead of needing to replace it entirely. I just wanted to express my appreciation and say thank you.

Great spot! Fair prices, always get us in within a day or two, and unlike other shops, they do a super job of communicating with their customers! I brought my leased vehicle in for some normal maintenance and my mechanic found an issue that needed repair but would still be covered under warranty by the dealer. So instead of trying to make extra money off me, he was honest and said I should have the dealer fix the issue at no cost.

I have used Playa West Automotive for nearly 30 years! They are reliable and trustworthy and their team, especially Willie & owner, Andy, always take good care of me! Recently I called with a dead battery and they offered to come jump my battery and pick me up as they had done in the past. This time, they checked out my battery, charged it, took the time to trouble shoot with me, and they actually did NOT just sell me a battery, but found a faulty wire that saved me over $100 from the original estimate quote! Great hometown service you will rarely find elsewhere! Highly recommend!!!

Andy and his amazing team have been fixing our cars for 20 years now, and I wouldn't have it any other way. They're always my first call when something goes wrong, and they're usually the ones to fix it; from headlights to engine replacements, they've done it all. They're a popular shop, so I always try to give them a heads up that we're coming, and they help manage expectations about how busy they are and how fast they can get to our car. All that and a hand-signed thank you note in the mail every. single. time. Love you, Playa West.

The Gold Standard for Honesty and Expertise! If you are looking for an honest mechanic who does high-quality work, look no further than Playa West Automotive. Finding a shop you can actually trust is hard, but these guys are the real deal. I brought in my 2009 Acura TL SH-AWD for some much-needed attention, and the experience was flawless from start to finish. Since I don't work on cars myself, I really appreciated how they took the time to explain every detail in a way I could actually understand. Thanks to their expertise and honesty, I was able to sell my car for top dollar! Here is why Playa West stands out: Technical Credibility: They prominently display ASE Certification seals, which gave me immediate peace of mind. It's clear they have the specialized knowledge and modern diagnostic equipment required to handle complex systems like Acura's SH-AWD. They also do SMOG checks! Radical Transparency: I loved how they hooked up to my car with their OBD-II scanner (On-Board Diagnostics scanner). They showed me the results and explained the error codes and what we needed to do to fix them. They provided a clear, written estimate before touching the car β no vague quotes or "hidden" fees. Business Integrity: They offer a solid warranty on their work, proving they stand behind their repairs. While their pricing is fair, you aren't getting "budget" work; you're getting master-level labor and quality parts. Their communication was consistent β I always knew the timeline and was never surprised by the final bill. It was actually lower than I thought. Professionalism: The shop is incredibly clean and organized, which reflects the care they take with your vehicle. Despite having a "busy lot" (a great sign of local trust!), their turnover is excellent. They get the job done right and get you back on the road quickly. If you want a professional, honest, friendly mechanic team that treats your car like their own, go to Playa West Automotive. I can't recommend them enough! Thank you so much, guys! p.s. Andy (the owner) is an amazing person and is extremely honest, which is hard to find. Thank you, Andy, Matt, and Willy.
