This is the place. This is the auto repair shop you were hoping existed. One where they are careful with their evaluations, repairs and your money. I have used another repair shop in Tucson for more than 2 decades. Their repairs are expert but, over time, they became very aggressive about suggested maintenance and service even when it didn't comport with manufacturer recommendations. The result is always feeling like you might be doing something wrong or, worse, that they are just trying to earn unwarranted dollars from you. I have now lost trust in this other shop. Over the last 2 years, I started bringing my 2 Hondas to Primarily Japanese and they have earned my trust. They fix what needs to be fixed. They consider repairing parts when possible instead of always just replacing everything. And, most importantly, they tell you when they are not sure about a diagnosis for a problem. These three things add up to honesty. They are now my shop for all my cars.

Excellent service and fair prices. Just be aware that the parts they use when they repair your vehicle are not the cheapest available. This is in your best interest in most cases! But there may be exceptions, like for a headlight ballast in my case. Rest assured you will be notified if something like this comes up. I highly recommend Primarily Japanese to my friends that have cars that fit the bill.

I have waited a week to leave this review as I needed to see that the repairs were satisfactory and THEY ARE! I orginally took my car to a Toyota dealer and was just not impressed. I purchased a vehicle online and brought it to Primarily Japanese to do an inspection. Chris at the front office was very patient with me as I explained my specific care-abouts. I dropped off my vehicle and they were able to call an Uber so I could get to work. After a few hours, Chris called me back and explained everything they found during the inspection and sent over the report with detailed descriptions and pictures. The shop was very timely and affordable. Chris also provided me with a quote for upcoming maintenance so I can plan ahead. Overall, my experience was great and I will definitely be coming back in the future.

Everything was fine until I noticed a warning light on the dashboard that hadn’t been there before. One of the technicians tried to dismiss the issue as a coincidence and suggested it was caused by a crack in my windshield, claiming the dashboard error was coming from the windshield camera. How silly is that! In the end, the error cleared itself and I left. Overall, they fixed the water pump, but I don’t think I’ll be going back there.

This was my first visit to Primary Japanese Auto Service. I am very impressed and will use them instead of the dealer when the need arises. Chris kept me updated throughout the day that they had my car. He is very professional and pleasant. This is a busy place and I can understand why.

I had taken a Subaru here before and it was ok. Service was fine. Sold that and got a Tacoma. Wanted to give them another shot. Person at front was alright at drop off. Dropped off at 7:30. They have a sign that says communicate every 2 hours in their office, yet I called at 12:30 to get an update and still had to call back. Was told a guy working on it got pulled to another job and will take a little longer. Finally get the call about it and its alternator. Gives me the quote and seems very high, but I go with it. I go to pick up the vehicle and look at the price of the alternator on the printout and do a quick Google search and could not find one nearly as expensive as the one that they had . I asked the service tech about it and his words were we only marked it up 100 bucks? They needed to still make money. They definitely made money off my service which they charge too much for as well? I left the office with the attendance say wishing me a happy new year but I’m being very displeased telling them. It’s very hard to spend money with them. They do not communicate well and they overcharge. I cannot recommend anyone go here.

The only critique I have is that they should take down the sign that says they MUST call you every two hours. They have a good problem, which is they are super busy doing a great job fixing peoples vehicles, and it might be unreasonable to have that as a requirement. I have a feeling customers would use that against them, which doesn't seem fair given the quality of work they do. No need to leave yourself open for that kind of criticism! Chris did a great job and I appreciate the help fixing the evap pump on my subaru. Great place to get your car fixed!

I had a great experience with Primarily Japanese! The folks who work there are friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable. I got a full oil service on my 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, and when my car needed additional repairs, they gave me the opportunity to approve those services prior to completing them, and took the time to explain to me what the repairs would entail and if they were essential. They completed the booked services thoroughly and in a timely manner and got me back on the road again!

At 150K miles my 2013 outback was roughly at mid-life and I wanted it to avoid a crisis. I had several things done off the every 30k - 60K mileage list. I also had the headlights replaced (needed since the car was brand new…worst headlights anywhere, ever) I was a first-time customer. I picked PJ based on their great reviews and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. If you are looking for an HONEST and knowledgeable service and repair automotive business, you just found it! I needed a regular maintenance service on my Toyota Tacoma and I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. There were no unexpected charges or pressure to have more work done. They do list any "recommended" future services that will need to be completed, but they just gave me the information and prices, so I could go home and decide. While I was sitting in the lobby waiting, I could overhear "Chris" behind the counter talking with other customers. He was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable about their issues. He also knew most of them by name when they walked in. You could tell they were regulars who also trust this outstanding company. Joe the owner, takes pride in his establishment and truly cares about people. If you need repairs or maintenance done on your vehicle, you just found your forever mechanics! I had a very positive experience with Primarily Japanese. I really appreciated the team taking the time to conduct a careful and thorough diagnosis rather than jumping straight to conclusions. They correctly identified the catalytic converter as the issue and explained everything clearly. My car is not only running normally again, but it feels better than it has in months. OUTSTANDING experience with Primarily Japanese and their service on my F-150. They were able to determine the issue with my "check engine" light and correct it with Ford diagnostic procedure and didn't need to replace catalytic converter, saving me BIG bucks. They did a complete brake job as well as differential service, transmission drain/fill, both of which were well past their due dates, which I was unaware of. Joe was so professional and thoughtful in keeping me informed throughout the entire process. This is one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. The pick up and delivery service was a pleasant and appreciated addition. Prices were very reasonable I thought. Thanks Joe and all the crew at Primarily Japanese Auto Service.

I had my 30K service done on my 2023 Lexus GX 460 at Primarily Japanese and couldn’t be happier with the experience. The entire staff was great to work with; especially Joe and Perry in the office were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about my vehicle. They also offered some great tips before and after installing a 3" lift, which made the entire process easier and safer. This shop is a great alternative to the dealership, where you’re often treated like a number and never work with the same people twice. Supporting a local business like this is a huge plus, and I highly recommend them for anyone with a Japanese or any type of vehicle. They’re the trusted new home for my GX.
