They are great. In less than 24hrs, Shawn called me to pick up my engine block. They bored the block 5-over and cleaned it. On top of that, the guys in the shop helped me load the block into the cab of my truck. Thank you for the great service and the great prices. Edit to this post. Stay away from this place, unless you like mystery work done to your engine. They messed up my LS3 block. Even admitted to messing it up, by stating, "we must have not checked the block first, or we misread the bore gage". The receipt they gave me stated the block was bore .005 over making the bore size 4.070. after buying 4 sets of piston rings, all with a gap of .086, I took the block back to SCH to check the bore size. Shawn checked all 8 cylinders, all 8 of them have a bore of 4.090, which is .025 over bore. Shawn would only offer to bore the block .005 more making the bore size 4.095 or .030 over. Shawn would NOT offer to make it right by offering to replace the pistons and rings I bought based off what was written down on the receipt. Also told me he wouldn't replace the block or resleeve the block. Went as far as telling me it was or is my responsibility to double check their work after receiving services rendered. Does this sound like a place you would trust to have any engine machine work done? Not to me.

These guys are great. I was having issues getting a wheel bearing pressed. Turns out the previous owner of my vehicle did an axle swap that wasn’t the same as the manufactured year. The guys at Southern Head and Cylinder helped me through this and also stayed late to get the work done for me that day. Everyone was very nice as well. Thank you guys

Bored my 89 corvette motor .40 over, press fit pistons on the rods, resurfaced the flywheel and balanced the rotating assembly for me. Very quick turn around and excellent work. Motor is assembled and running great. Price was high, but prices are high everywhere, and they did it fast and with no drama. When I got there they took the block out of the back of my truck one of their guys took it in to the shop and started working on it right then before I even unloaded all the other parts and left the shop.

I would like to thank Shawn at Southern Cylinder Heads for making sure my Honda's heads were good to go. Truly impressed by their turn around time dropped off at 9am and picked up at 4pm. The work looks good. Not overly impressed with cleaning could have done better there. I dropped off the seals for the cylinder head yet was still invoiced for them. Shawn I get your a busy guy and you speak to many folks a day. I'd suggest getting a receptionist haha. Quality work from a Quality guy thanks again Shawn. I put mineral oil in each of the combustion cambers and there was zero leaks after 2 hours. A+ exactly what a good valve job will do.

Shawn was very helpful to me, being my first head gasket replacement that I tackled myself. It took less than 4 hours to deck the head, replace all the valve seals and do a valve job and clean everything, especially the gunked-up EGR inlet manifold. Very reasonable prices too! By far one of the worst shops I’ve ever dealt with. They ruined the heads on my engine, put the wrong pistons in the engine and also put my motor back together without honing my cylinders after being paid to do it. If you want your engine work done right do not even think of taking it here.

Okay guys I wanted to give an honest review. My experience started with a call me asking them to reseat one valve in a cylinder head for a 3urfe. He sounded like he was annoyed and explained they don’t do that. I then became annoyed and tried calling around. Upon further research the only people offering a single valve reseat where companies with lack luster reviews. Gathering pricing it made no financial or logical sense for me not to have the whole head worked once I saw the pricing. I called them back and they had my cylinder head done by the next day! Not only that the price was extremely resonable. Note on the “attitude” I thought I heard. It wasn’t attitude. The guy who answers the phone is also working on parts so he has to run back and forth. He’s extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant in person. So if you feel like he’s blowing you off or annoyed on the phone please realize he likely ran across the shop to answer your call. Only for you (or me in this situation) to ask for something that not only doesn’t make sense it costs far more than the services I got rendered. In all this place is the bees knees and if you have apprehension due to a hard working dude on the phone sounding like he’s mad, rethink that apprehension. I brought my head back home and did measurements. Not only did they get it within spec, they had it OPTIMAL! I can say without a doubt I’ll be going back to this place everytime. But for real the phone thing I’ve seen mentioned here a few times is just a misunderstanding. The dudes at the shop are super chill and know their shit. Even when the guy running the front wasn’t there when I dropped off my parts like keepers retainers and springs, the other dudes in the back came upfront helped me out and where super personable. These dudes rock! Pic attached in post machine work. They even assembled and tested it all, I checked the torque and it’s perfect too!
