Did a faster, better, and cheaper job than my local shop. THEY COME TO YOU! I can't imagine getting it done anywhere else. Also they didn't try to up-sell me on anything I didn't need or want. A+++

Great service! From what I can tell they seem very honest and professional. They will come to any location that you need and perform the repairs there! I was at the office and they did the work on my car out in the parking lot with no interruption to my day. Definitely worth checking these guys out.

We’ve had The atypical mechanic do several repairs/services over the last few years on our cars. I haven’t seen the high level of customer service or knowledge this group provides at other shops - these folks are great. I actively recommend them and hope more mechanics work like these folks!

We have done multiple repairs on our van with them. They always go above and beyond. And pricing is very reasonable. I continue to go back to them cause really are good people that do excellent work. I would recommend them time and time again.

So far, so bad. Foremost, this is not a reflection of the technician that came out for a diagnosis; he was very polite and efficient. This current review my be amended when repairs and services are rendered. So far, every confirmed appointment has been postponed, rescheduled or incomplete in execution. Some instances of this are beyond the control of the vendor, some are not. I used a mobile mechanic for convenience and economy, but I also like to support small business. I hope our interactions improve so that I can recommend this alternative. UPDATE: The Saga Continues I will be rescheduled again due to an inaccurate estimate for repairs and lack of proper repair order. Again, Don The Tech was great. UPDATE UPDATE: The Uneventful End After another readjustment to labor and parts cost, my estimate jumped from 600 to 800 to 1200 dollars roughly. The business has apologized for the inconvenience and have attributed the inconsistencies and miscommunication to the Don The Tech being new and unfamiliar with their process. I have finally been offered a refund for the initial 95 dollar diagnostic fee. I have scheduled the service with another mobile mechanic, YourMechanic, and received an in writing quote with more service for less than 500 dollars. Moral of the story: do your due diligence.

Good, honest, and awesome. Had a BMW with a brake warning, expected to have to shell out for new brakes, but they showed me that just the warning cable was worn (I wouldn't have known). Been using them for smaller repairs and routine stuff for a couple years. Great guys!

Jeremy came out and assessed our problem correctly the first time. I am normally skeptical of mechanics but when I said I would wait to do the repair he didn’t pressure me at all. After researching the issue further myself I called him back to come fix it. Everything was very convenient and well communicated. I feel like I can trust this company to be honest and helpful which is very important to me.

We have used Jeremy for so many years, I can't even count now. We always trust him to fix our cars the right way, the first time. We have 2 special needs children, and one with bone cancer, so its super important to have reliable cars. We will continue to use him as long as he is in Austin. They are just good honest people.

Friendly, fast and fairly priced. Don't hesitate to give them a chance if you need a convenient solution. My battery couldn't be jumped so was going to cost quite a bit for a tow & didn't want to mess around trying to self install. They arrived on time and replaced the battery with a brand that I had specifically requested plus they performed additional inspections. Saved me a lot of stress & definitely will use them again if needed.

Great people and great work! They have been a huge help with my companies' trucks. Very honest and knowledgeable and helpful on how to proceed with our truck repairs. I have been working with Jeremy for three years now and I highly recommend.

I can no longer recommend Atypical Mechanic after how they have recently treated me. I originally used them in 2021 and left a 5* review for them, but the short story is they quoted me a flat $120 diagnostic fee, showed up and did the diagnostic and asked for $240. We were able to work that out, I thought, and I left a 5* review as they did do the diagnostic I paid for. Fast forward to February of 2022 and I had them back for a different problem, and they diagnosed the problem as needing a right front wheel bearing. Took the car to Juke and did the job and that didn't fix the problem at all. After some diagnosis at Juke, they said I would need the left front wheel bearing and new engine mounts to fix the problem. $2,000 in repairs later, the problem went away. I never left Atypical a bad review for their diagnosis even though it was only 1/3 of the problem. Lucky for me, Juke was nice enough to waive their diagnostic fee to find the real problem. Fast forward to 2023 and I emailed them for a few price quotes for other jobs. After some back and forth, they told me they are "not the best fit for [my] mechanic needs moving forward." I don't remember anything happening when they did the diagnosis in 2022 other than their tech leaving an expensive tool in my vehicle which I contacted them to return. I guess they finally decided they were mad from 2021 that they didn't get another $120 out of me? I don't know. I asked for clarification on what their issue is but they refused to explain if it was anything other than the first incident. I've paid my invoices and have no issues with Atypical Mechanic, so I'm not sure what their issue is with me. UPDATE 03/29/23: Jeremy makes two points in his response. First, that I knew the diagnostic fee was hourly. This is incorrect, and his original message says: "Our evaluation fee is $120. This is also our hourly fee so if your evaluation is under an hour the remainder of that fee would go towards the repair." The first sentence says the evaluation fee is flat rate $120, not hourly, and only talks about a discount applied to the hourly rate for repair. It's poor wording on his part, and when we spoke on the phone Jeremy seemed to understand where I was coming from. Apparently that was not the case, and two years later he still feels like he is in the right and I'm combative. Second, he says I cancelled multiple appointments within an hour which is just a blatant line. I looked over all of the emails, and here are the timelines for all of my appointments: 01/31/22 @ 3:02pm: appointment scheduled for 02/11/22 @ 1:30pm 02/10/22 @ 2:57pm: rescheduled appointment for 02/14/22 @ 11:30am (22 hours in advance) 02/14/22: appointment kept and paid $120 diagnosis 02/14/22 @ 3:49pm: appointment scheduled for 02/24/22 @ 1:30pm 02/23/22 @ 7:34am: appointment cancelled (29 hours in advance) With Atypical's appointments running 2 weeks in advance at that time, it was hard to know my schedule that far out. I rescheduled and cancelled when I found out I would not be available. 22 & 29 hours does not seem egregious to me, and I'm sure you filled those holes if you were booking 2 weeks out. But to say I cancelled MULTIPLE TIMES and WITHIN AN HOUR is an outright lie. You can say that you found me combative, but don't lie, Jeremy. Not a good look when I can pull up the times from my email to prove you're wrong.

Been utilizing Jeremy and his team for several years now and can’t recommend him enough! Obviously, the convenience of having a mechanic come to you while at work or wherever you are is a huge perk! The quality of the work is superb as well! I had a problem with my gas tank a while ago that other shops couldn’t diagnose and Jeremy wouldn’t let up until he found a solution. Can’t beat their pricing either! Give them a call!

The least I can do to say thanks for saving me a grand on unneeded car repairs is leave a 5 star review. Toyota dealer wanted 600-1k in repairs on my Prius. These guys came to my home at a convenient time, showed me under the hood, and compared with theirs. If nothing is wrong and factory manual doesn't even say you need certain repairs, then why get them? Honest to a fault and I will definitely use them again in the future. Excellent, honest small business.

The week of Thanksgiving, my service engine light came on, and to the dealer we went. They gave us a $2,200 quote and a timeline of "we'll get to it as soon as we can but are very backed up, it may be several days." Since we were traveling for the holiday and needed the vehicle repaired right away, and because the quote seemed astronomical, we scheduled an appointment online for 7am the next morning with The Atypical Mechanic, as a last hope for being able to get the car fixed and hit the road on time. Jeremy showed up bright and early, completed the repairs for a portion of the dealer's quote, and we were on the road the same day. Thank you!

Jeremy and his team always provide great service and honest feedback. I took my vehicle to the service department at the dealership and they detailed out all the issues with my car. I had Jeremy take a look and a majority of the items were very nit picky and I did not need to take care of them right away. This saved a lot of time and money. Thanks again and I'll continue to use your services in the future.

Been working with Jeremy, Fallon, and Gary for years now. I definitely believe they are the best team of mechanics in Austin. They aren’t the cheapest, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I’ve gotten so much work done on my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, and I can honestly say it’s running like brand new thanks to these guys. I’ve had brakes, rotors, water pump, coolant exchange, transmission fluid exchange, serpentine belt replacement, spark plugs, you name it, and I’ve had it done with The Atypical Mechanic. My go-to mechanic in Austin Texas. Cheers to 6 years of great service. 🍻

I’ve been servicing my car with Atypical Mechanic for the past six years, and I couldn’t be more pleased with their service! From day one, they’ve gone above and beyond, providing honest, reliable work every time. Whether it’s routine maintenance or unexpected repairs, they always take the time to explain everything in detail and offer the best solutions. Their team is knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about getting me back on the road safely. It’s rare to find a mechanic you trust completely, but I know I’m in good hands with them, and I wouldn’t take my car anywhere else! Jeremy, Fallon, Gary, thank you all!

A game changer. Thanks to fellow consumer reviews, I do already have my go-to brick and mortar auto repair shops I like but the rigmarole of dropping my car for no telling how long and how much – plus having to hire or enlist rides to and fro – is time consuming and inconvenient. So I somewhat reluctantly tried these guys and was impressed by the whole process, from online scheduling to completed repairs. The cost was lower than the verbal ball-park I was quoted and it was helpful to be here in the comfort of my own house and be available for troubleshooting discovery. I work from home. They were able to get to the bottom of a vexing metal-to-metal clicking sound that's been driving me crazy: a worn-out engine mount. Two other trusted mechanics hypothesized I needed new shocks and/or struts. Plus I requested new brake pads, based on what one mechanic told me 9 months ago and Jeremy quickly assessed them in front of me and told me the percentage of brake pad I had left on each wheel, which was plenty. Bottom line: they will be the first folks I call when I need more repair work and I've already handed out their cards to several friends and family members. They'll come to your workplace too. - Scott, 2005 Volvo S40 T5
