If you are into VDUBs you should know TST which mean you know do nothing but literally the best. If you arent a vw/audi enthusiasts to put it short they are car enthusiasts/builders so they know a thing or 2 about working on VWs. They also built one of the most famous VW caddys ever built.

The ONLY shop If you're serious about getting amazing service in the north/east bay/SF. Out of the gate, Tim and his guys took the biggest mess of a MKIV ever created, and out of the goodness of their hearts, made it run again, almost magically. They've become the only shop i have used for all my cars, and I worked at an amazing shop (Bugformance SJ) myself! Long story short, there are people out there who can do an ok job, find parts, and probably give you a repaired car back. But there are people who actually GET it, and when you deal with them, you can be certain they will not only meet the standards, they will surpass them, and the quality of their work will prove it, no matter how complicated or simple the job is, and no matter how customized your car is. I say the same of Bugformance SJ; these are the gurus of Volkswagen, the good guys, and the true enthusiasts. Don't make the silly mistake of taking your car elsewhere.

These guys know their cars!! I was recommended to them for my classic Rabbit GTI. Nice to have honest, non-corporate, knowledgeable mechanic to work on my car in the inner Bay Area!!

Yep... It's Legit! Was referred but no regrets. Customer service was stellar and I was in and out in no time. The guys didn't treat me like I didn't belong because I'm a woman, (like some all male auto body shots seem to go out of their way to). Wonderful experience, would definitely go Back!

These guys are great! they take care of everything I request and more, even though my beetle is kind of a beater. These guys make the expense of maintaining a German car very worth it every time!

This shop is the real deal. They really know what they are doing and charge a very reasonable rate. I had my golf r mk7s transfer case transmission wheels brakes and tires replaced here recently and i have nothing but love for the guys here. Special shout out to ken for dealing with my bs and always being responsive and informative.

Tomas is hands-down the best shop for working on VW’s. Their specialty is performance tuning- it's common to see all types of beautifully tuned Golfs for road or rally racing in front of their shop. But they also are experts on New Beetles- the last time I was there they had not one, but two beetles being modified (heavily) for the 24 Hours of Lemons races. If that isn't enough to convince you, I walked in one day and said I was having an issue with my catalytic converter throwing some codes- and without even asking, the mechanic knew both the year and engine of my Beetle, because it was a known issue with aftermarket cats for that mode of car. They also helped my friend with their Jetta when no other shop could find the answer. Their time is valuable, and priced accordingly. Don't let that fool you though- the deal you get is that unlike other mechanics, they usually identify the *real* problem and solve it (avoiding the cycle of never-ending repairs of symptoms), and they do so in a fraction of the time that other mechanics fumble through working on VW's. They can be a little difficult to get ahold of- if they don't get back to you over the phone, just go in person and set up an appointment. A little bit of a hassle, but so worth it. Take it from someone who had one incompetent big-name shop do $100's of damage by simply doing an oil change wrong- you want to go to experts if you want your VW to last.

Honest vouch, please read completely: I recently had to go through a customer's service records going back to 2018 to help her through a situation where TWO local shops in central TX did her and the car horribly wrong in the last year. They wasted thousands of her money on a 2012 A4. I also did a deep dive on the Audi in question to get to the bottom of the problems. Tomas was the ONLY shop in her history who did things right and charged her fairly. Consequently, they have my respect and acknowledgment: I've been a career auto worker for 22 years now, and I'm as thorough as they come. I scrutinized all the records and history on this car. Customer also had endlessly positive things to say about how Tomas treated her when she still lived in Berkeley. Hope this helps someone along. ✌️ 🍻

I have never left a review for a business until I was finish. But I will tell you this… From the moment of hello, this business was right on! I can’t understand why some people don’t like car mechanics and if they do have issues with any mechanics, they should try Tomas! Ken was gracious from the moment I called. When I arrived they were already waiting for me the staff there is amicable courteous and professional the shop is clean and very thorough customer service. Where else do you get a half a pound of coffee beans (thank you Catahoula Coffee), just for showing up and dropping off your car? They are awesome with communication send automatic text messaging With updates on your car. Within minutes of me dropping off my car, Ken called with the full diagnostic check. Just wonderful service. I can’t wait to pick up my car today I’m sure that the five star review will stick and if I could add more I probably will. I feel really good about this business and I have no problem recommending you to come feel good too.

I was referred to Tomas Sport Tuning by another shop who couldn't take my car. Left a voicemail and Ken got back to me in less than a day. Although they also weren't a candidate either to work on my car, Ken listened patiently to my needs and concerns and gave me extremely helpful information. I was very impressed by both his kindness and expertise. and just wish they could have worked on my car. I would trust them completely.

I’ve had the honor of meeting the owner and some of the staff and they are true passionate enthusiasts that build and maintain cool stuff that is proven. Truly honored they gave me some of their time to see what they do. If I lived anywhere close to them and needed work they would be the goto shop.

I bought an engine from these people. They told me it ran and was fine. I asked them about the history of the engine and if it had any issues. They failed to disclose that it had suffered damage from a timing belt tensioner failing and the cam chain guide broke apart. I drained the oil and found metal flake in it. Then I pulled the connecting rod cap and found a heavily damaged bearing. These people are sloppy. Their quality control is unacceptable. They will lie to you to make a buck. If you have a Volkswagen or Audi beware. If they're willing to do this to me, they'll do it to you. Shops like this are the reason mechanics get a bad rap for being crooks. Take your car somewhere else. They are not to be trusted.

Fast, friendly, expert. Needed Tire Rack tires installed on my 2000 Audi TT. I expected to be sitting in their waiting lounge for 90 minutes (my estimate not theirs). That would have been fine, it was clean, comfortable, and had need VW / Audi displays, not too far from cafes. Ken was super friendly all the way through, as were the other mechanics I chatted with. The tire swap only took 35 minutes, I was really surprised! I'll definitely be back to these guys for work on my old Audi. I'm a car guy, and Tomas Sport Tuning is obviously the real deal after seeing them in action and seeing their shop.

What a fantastic discovery. I feel kind of dumb for not knowing about this shop for the past 20 years. Exactly what any enthusiast is looking for - everyone I dealt with was kind and engaging, even though my problem was essentially a PITA cost for them to deal with. Well, I’ve certainly found our forever shop for the family GTI runabout. Everything a VAG (or any other marques-specific) shop should represent. Thanks Ryan, Tim, Ken!
