★☆☆☆☆ I do not recommend this shop at all and don’t expect them being a AAA approved shop to mean literally anything. We showed up with a transmission leak and they pulled off the transmission pan. There were metal shards in the pan and they said the transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. Fine. So they got some “quotes”. They tried charging $4,000 for a rebuild and $2,600 for a used transmission swap (with a $75 discount for being a AAA member, yippee). For some people, that’s not half bad. Our vehicle is a 1985 van which required an A727 transmission, they’re super cheap from basically any salvage yard in the country. Santiago tried telling me the used transmission was going to cost $1,500. I didn’t believe him and told him I found a bunch online for $500. He said those will take weeks to arrive. So I left and got quotes on both a rebuild and a used transmission. The same yard they called had a used one for $500 shipped next day. I know it was the same yard because the guy at the yard even said they called. Certified smog was going to upsell me $1,000 plus labor to install a transmission I could go buy myself for one third of the price (of course with my lovely $75 discount though). So I also called more places and got a quote on a full rebuild. First quote I got was $2,600. Both Santiago and Pancho act so nice, but at the end of the day their goal is to screw you. There were other customers there too who were complaining to them about the price they had to pay. They just ignored them and took their credit card. They also charge a mandatory $165 diagnostic fee even if they do the work which is such a cheap shot in my opinion. When I mentioned all of this, both Santiago and Pancho were super passive aggressive, and started going off “oh I’ve owned this shop for 40 years”. Go anywhere else in the Coachella valley and you’re guaranteed to have a better experience. DO NOT LET AAA TOW YOUR CAR HERE
