Took our 67 MGB, running great, except for a small leak in fuel tank when full of gas that we did not want to deal with ourselves. Right off the bat, they over crank the ignition, twisted the ignition switch, and shorted everything through the new wiring harness we had just put in a couple weeks prior. They say it was a faulty ignition switch and would happily fix things - $900 for just the harness, not including labor and other parts. We had just installed a new harness, $350 from Moss Motors. So we had to tow the car back to our house on our dime ($95) and fix. They said the fuel tank was fixed and everything good to go, so we payed the bill and got the car home. We go to start the car after installing new harness bought again for $350 from Moss Motors, and they had not finished hooking up everything to the fuel pump, so gas goes everywhere into my house's garage floor. We cleanup, fix and try to start the car again, no go. Everything's a mess - so we call Colvin's and they agree to tow it back in and get in running, on them. So, we're thinking great, couple minor updates and we get our MGB back. Couple of weeks later and we get a call from Colvin's wondering about our MGB. Seems the folks working on our car were no longer at the company and they were wondering why the car had been seemingly stored there for a couple of months. Ugggh. Tell the new people the story, and they say they'll have it ready and running by xyz time. They call us a week after the xyz time, said it was ready. We get there to take it home, they tell us it's backfiring and not running great, but it starts or we can tow it home for you for $180 (remember we had our own tow there for $95 and the car was running awesome) - and oh, here's your bill for everything else...

I love this place. Been there with three different vehicles (five counting my wife and daughter's) and never had a complaint. Front desk guys become my friends and know me when I call (maybe 'cause I drive my cars a little hard) and they are mechanics too so they know of what they speak! Owner's an interesting cat too, as is his son. Great when you get 'em talking. Highly recommend this shop.

My boyfriend and I live down the street from Colvin, first off it's always a treat to just drive by as they are always working on the most badass cars in Austin! Classics to next gen. But secondly and most importantly, Colvin has worked and did a rock star job on all our cars, a 1969 MGB, 1987 IRoc Camero, 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2009 Toyota Camary. Honestly, we would never go anywhere else. Awesome people, all talent, and the most important...100% transparent!

Very pleased with the full engine restoration Colvin Auto did on my 1948 Staright 8 flathead motor. Even with all the challenges the car presented the staff at Colvin went above and beyond to ensure my one of a kind Pontiac Hearse was right The day after picking up my vehicle I was able to use this unique car to pay honor to an Air Force Ret Veteran and give his funeral the distinct touch with vintage flair he deserved and the family was thankful for. If it was not for the dedication of the Colvin staff that would not have been possible.

Absolutely terrible management. They signed a contract with me to complete my restoration of 1970 mustang, they demanded all the money up front before beginning work on my vehicle but that I would have it back in 6 months. 36 months later I got my car back... only after squeezing me for 50% or 20% more very couple months... in total 150% more payment even though I paid "everything" up front. So 250% paid on the agreed amount and they give me a car back that does not run, is barely slapped together on the interior (seriously it looks terrible on the inside) The only redeeming factor is that the paint and body crew actually know what they are doing... maybe talk to one of them after hours or maybe the employees should start their own shop... because Ken and K.C. Colvin are crooks. Oh and to get my car back, they held it ransom for another 30% more... these guys are literally criminal.

These guys are top notch. They took care of my issues with my 2000 model F-250 with the 7.3L diesel that Covert Ford failed to properly address for 6 years. They are friendly, interested in helping you and actually care about your satisfaction. If I could write a negative review for Covert Ford here, I would.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Colvin today. They assisted in a dyno tune event for 10 or so cars and were GREAT to work with. Super friendly and helpful. When some things went wrong with a couple of the cars, they not only provided lots of information and troubleshooting help, but also let us use their lifts and some tools. Other shops would have just told us to take a hike. Cory was super easy to work with to set the event up. They even brought in donuts in the morning for us and had a food truck come for lunch. They even had me come in early a week ago, so they get get used to strapping in our cars (Genesis Coupes) and they put in a big cooler that took ice blocks in order to keep the dyno room cool. When it comes to service and expertise, they are second to none. If you need advanced tuning for your sports car, these are your guys.

Just picked up my Ferrari 308 from the shop. The guys at Colvin have taken care of this beauty for nearly 20 yrs, and it runs like super charged butter. This time was a replacement of the original carpet and they did an absolutely stellar job. Right on the estimate, less days needed than we thought, and they detailed it for me, as well. I couldn't be happier with the job, the shop, and the guys. Thanks, fellas!!

Colvin Automotive never disappoints! These guys have saved me so many times. Recently my BMW had a plastic bracket that held up the emergency brake cables fail prematurely. The OEM fix from the dealership was crazy expensive. Colvin Automotive fab'd up a far superior metal bracket for a fraction of the price. KC and his team can fix anything!

Todd and the team at Colvin are top notch! They are trustworthy and priced fair. They have helped out a ton with my wife’s 1973 AM general which is used for her business. They have done a killer job and go above and beyond. And they seem to always be up for the task (these AM generals can be a nightmare). Highly recommend! We won’t use anyone else!

Great experience working with Todd and the Colvin team to replace the clutch and an axle on my 1979 Jeep CJ5. Todd was communicative and professional throughout the process and the work was completed in a timely fashion. Definitely plan on coming back and highly recommend them to anyone looking to have some work done on an older vehicle.

I have had nothing but great things to say about Colvin Automotive. I would not consider this shop for you run of the mill, everyday, mechanical needs. This is a shop for projects, exotic, classics and customs. The custom rebuild engine they have done for me is wonderful, and now a very high performance engine. KC is great guy, and will talk you through the whole process. Yes, it cost money, but I am not looking for a cheap job on my custom rebuild.

Don’t like to post negative reviews but my experience with Colvin and the work they did on my ‘77 911 was terrible. I wanted the carbs rebuilt and tuned along with replacing front and rear windshield and window seal and replacing the alternator. When I picked my car up, it had leaves and old rubber chunks from the windshield seal all over the floor. I had just pulled all the carpet and painted the inside white and there were greasy footprints all over the new paint that were not cleaned. The carb rebuild was the worst part of it. I was assured they knew what they were doing, they rebuilt the carbs and did not re-install the accelerator pump cams and linkages so my car was tuned without accelerator pumps. They changed emulsion tubes because of that and created even more problems. Car was tricky to start and bogged down anytime more than half throttle was applied. There was a specific line item in the invoice for rebuilding the accelerator pumps as well. After being very unhappy with the car I took it to a more reputable Porsche specialist who tore the carbs apart and said nothing was even close to done right. Floats were way off, they weren’t even close to synced. This is a quote from the shop that redid them, “The floats were way off, tabs bent incorrectly for the baseline before shimming the needle valves for the specified fuel volume for each chamber. They were not consistent, all over the place, no way this was done before or they didn’t have a clue how to do it correctly.” If you have an air cooled Porsche, stay the hell away from Colvin

Colvin Automotive did a great job getting my 1972 Chevy pickup truck up and running like a champ at a fair and reasonable price! My truck had been in storage for a number of years and they repaired an ignition issue and replaced the brake master cylinder along with belts, hoses, and fluids. It was my first experience with Colvin and I will definitely return for any future work needed.

this place is the greatest, these guys have mad skills and do a phenomenal job, from the metal work and welding to the body and paint work they are artists in my mind. My 74 BMW is now rust free and looks amazing and I will be back. Thanks!!

I took in my car for a quote to get a car accident bumper repair and within 1 day I had a total cost. Took it in one day and received it back same day. Ken, Tony and the crew color matched well! I appreciate the thoroughness of the process and quick turn around! I would recommend this location!

I want to post a warning about a local repair shop. The company is Colvin Automotive, 2715 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 78731 They admitted to me & sent a text message to me about faulty installation of a Pertronix electronic ignition on my 1960 MGA 1600. With a promise to refund the costs for all mechanical parts & labor. Needless to say they are refusing to honor their promise. Be very carful if you choose to use them. My attorney has sent them a letter & they have refused to have their attorney respond to my attorney. Lawsuit is pending. I have attached pictures of the ignition they improperly installed. Also, the spark plug wires they used a knife on to make them fit in the distributor cap. I hope this help someone else from making an informed decision. 7/26/25: upon futhur discussions with the management of Colvin Automotive, all issues have been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of both parties
