Awesome place to get machine work done. I always come back here because I get my parts back quickly, the work is quality, the prices aren't crazy and the owner is very friendly.

Refuses to answer any questions regarding the work he did on our engine. Very dismissive and unprofessional. Highly recommended if you just want to someone else to have to rebuild your engine again after. I'm not one to complain... but c'mon!

Nice enough guy, heads were surfaced and pressure tested. Cost seemed a little steep at just over $400. Barking dogs are annoying. Not many choices in Whatcom for machine work.

I've been going to Dave for years. He has always done a great job, extremely fast turn around time, and the price is never more than it should be. He is one of the best, honest mechanics in the area!

I hope everyone in town or just passing through looking for honest auto help will read this warning. The owner of Dunn's Specialty Service will lie to any extent, falsify estimates, and leave your car half finished without telling you. YOU'RE BETTER OFF GOING ANYWHERE ELSE. DUNN'S SPECIALTY IS DISHONESTY. I came to Dunn's because I was looking for an honest mechanic. Big mistake. I sat down with owner Dave Dunn and he gave me an estimate ($325) for replacing 4 shocks with new ones that I had purchased. I arrived first thing in the morning and showed him the parts: four boxes in the trunk of my car. He called after noon to tell me he'd finished early, without saying why. I went to pick up my car and he still didn't say a word about the boxes MISSING TWO SHOCKS. Thinking he installed FOUR shocks, I paid the full price. On the way home, I felt the rear of the car bouncing. When I got home, I read the receipt in order to find his phone number, but on the receipt, I saw that HE HAD CHANGED THE ENTIRE JOB to "Install two shocks in front only." When I called him back, he tried to deny that we had discussed installing FOUR shocks, then told me that the four boxes only contained two shocks—the other two must have been lost by UPS. He then told me to call UPS and call him back as soon as UPS delivered the missing shocks. But when I called him back with the shocks after I received them from UPS, he again denied that we ever discussed installing four shocks. In the end, he laughed at me, said, "Did you get the original estimate in writing?" and hung up on me. This man is a lowlife cheat and he knows it. I picked his shop because he looked like he needed work and appeared honest—but how do you really know? Now I know, and NOW YOU KNOW: DUNN'S SPECIALTY IS DISHONESTY.

Terribly unprofessional. He rebuilt my Engine a few months ago. Should have bored out the cylinders and now with the boat in the water and it being tested I know my fourth cylinder is dead. Very unhelpful not giving me any information on what he did do or did not do. Basically yelled at me in his shop. I will never use this service again. !!!!! (UPDATE, tri county got my engine and said the camshaft was too shot, and you did not line up the oil galley correctly, so when I started my engine for the first time, with no oil getting to the valve cover, caused bits of metal to enter and completely ruin the engine. Yes I ordered injectors from NW diesel but YOU installed it.)

Dunn's does top quality work at a very fair price. I manage a repair shop in Bellingham and trust Dunn's with all of our machining needs. I have had dozens of cylinder heads and flywheels resurfaced or repaired Dunn's Specialty Service. My technicians and customers are always happy with the high quality work and attention to detail. Projects are always done quicker than expected and at the price we agreed on. The spotless, organized facility reflects their professionalism.

Dave was very helpful, skilled, and communicative when I brought him a specialty V4 engine. He found the uncommon parts needed, did an impeccable job, and explained what he found along the way. I really appreciated his candor, straight forward explanations, and practical solutions to my problems. I'll definitely be using him again if I need engine work done!

Dunn's has always been honest and upfront with me. When I took my car in because I thought something was wrong, he didn't even charge me when it turned out there wasn't anything. But it is pretty common practice for a mechanic to charge just to do a diagnostic (they are still putting in their time.) He could have but didn't. He has always been fair and charged a decent price. I also noticed the previous guys negative review has some holes in his story. He says he brought Dave 4 shocks when he first got there. Dave told him he only had 2 and installed them. UPS apparently lost 2 and than the customer brought them to Dave WHEN UPS GOT THEM TO HIM. Meaning he didn't originally have 4 shocks when the original estimate was made like he thought. Dunn's has always done right by me and came highly recommended by people who know cars. That's how I found him. From people I trusted because I know nothing about cars.

Positive! I can only speak from personal experience. Shop floor entrance, noisy machinery, friendly dogs greet you and alert him to your presence. Word of mouth handshake kind of guy. Dropped off block, sleeved a cylinder, bore .040 over and hone. Payment and receipt upon completion. I will be using Dave Dunn for all my machine work in the future. I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews. Before you go to shop consider the following- Call ahead. Know what you want. He's not a mind reader. It's not his job to educate you. Get to the point. Don't waste his time talking. Prep work makes things go faster. He does it all, and nothing is free. His workload is normally a week out. Weekends are his time. Drop off what you need done. And stop off for a beer nextdoor.
