I have taken my cars to Ruben for the last 19 years. I give you my word and will put his Work, dedication and integrity against any other mechanic in Houston TX. General Mechanic...Ruben, did body work on the front right quarter panel on my Lexus LX and when it was wrecked a year before trading it in at the dealer. The Lexus dealership told me that body work had not been done on the front quarter panel and didn't believe me when I told them how bad it was smashed in when someone hit the car. That's how good and maticulas he is on all cars that are worked on at his facility. He will do mechanic and body work the right way only or not at all. I have seen him refuse and turn away customers and work on cars because the customer insisted that he cut corners to save them money. I have never seen such a perfectionist in auto mechanic and body work. My current vehicle was backed into on the back right quarter panel. The paint is a new color that is hard to match. (from different angles it looks like different colors). When I went to pick up the car the whole right side was painted. I asked him why he did that because it was not on the insurance work order. He replied. "I had to get the color right and that's what it took to pass my inspection". He then said " dont worry I paid out of my pocket to make it look right . Every referal I have sent him will now only go to General Mechanic...Ruben. YOU WILL NOT FIND THAT CUSTOMER SERVICE ATTITUDE, DEDICATIONAND HONESTY ANYWHERE ELSE IN HOUSTON. I challenge you to find a better or more honest mechanic or body shop...you can't find one!! Thanks Ruben for your dedication to your work and customers!! Shawn Minson

Reuben is straight shooter and has always treated me & my vehicles with the utmost care. My 1st trip to General Mechanics was to replace a clutch in a 93 Ford Ranger, luckily my 1st apartment was around the corner and I was able to push my truck to his garage. He went over & above to make sure I was able to work the next day. I have been going to General Mechanics & Transmission ever since for all my repairs. Once I was introduced to the services of General Mechanics and Transmissions I haven't driven my vehicle anywhere else for basic service or repairs. The first time I walked in I had a major repair needed on my Jeep. Not only did GMT make sure the adjuster was costing out all of the necessary repairs they did a great job, and came in under the repair estimate. Since then I've owned multiple vehicles and they've taken care of each one. When one finds a mechanic they can trust they stick with them. I trust General Mechanics and Transmissions.

Well I've come back to recheck this place in the past the place was very good .but now it's not a great idea to come here..I have a basic Chevy. And was charged 80.00 for a oil change...now you figure out if you will come here?

I’ve been coming to Ruben for about 4 years or so and had him work on all my vehicles in that time. Ruben always fixes what needs to be done to keep my truck on the road. He never tries to upsell me. As a woman, going to the mechanics can be intimidating. I ALWAYS feel like I’m being taken advantage of at other places. I’ve never felt like that here. Ruben is honest and fair and above all else he stands by his work. Ruben will be my mechanic for as long as he is open.

As a woman, going to a mechanic is one of the most dreadful things to do because they always try to scam you & get you to purchase things/labor that you really don’t need. I’ve never been somewhere with a more honest mechanic & employees. Ruben asked me questions about things I was noticing (which never happens when I go elsewhere) & told me what was necessary to immediately get done. I was also able to purchase my own parts & only paid for labor & my oil change. Will definitely be recommending this shop to everyone. The customer service is unmatched.

I wish I had come to General Mechanics the minute I moved to Houston. My car has not been doing well in the heat and has had a number of issues. I had gone through three different mechanics at other shops who gave me overpriced estimates, treated me (a female who has done her research on her car) with a condescending attitude, and tried to make me feel like my car wasn't worth the work. Ruben treated me with respect the minute I walked in to the shop, understood where I was coming from with my mindset, and took care of my car in a timely matter. You can tell he takes care of his staff and he is a reasonable, understanding, honest person who genuinely wants to help. He even sent me a follow-up text to make sure my car was still running okay. I'll refer all my contacts to General Mechanics, Ruben has restored my faith in a good shop.

Rubin Seems nice at first but he'll rip you off and does not really fix your car problem ( one problem comes just right after another) .. here are issues I found in a long run of going there 1.) Never call or text to give an update about the car, you'll be the one to keep texting and calling. 2.) Car sits under the sun for days and nothing done with it, yet you'll get charge per day it sits there. 3.) Since I brought my car to them, I kept going back because the car started to have different problems in a short time after one problem they say they fixed.

I cannot say enough nice things about this shop the mechanics and the owner are amazing. My car was in a different shop for 14 weeks...yep you read that correctly..14 weeks! I got it back after basically demanding it be returned in whatever state it was in. I immediately brought my car here and within 5 days my car was like new! He was honest and up front about needing a few days to diagnose the problems because i had no information to give him about what had happened at the other location. Also, when my car was returned it was as clean as when i brought it in (in the twelve hours it took me to get it from the terrible mechanic to Ruben at this location i had the car detailed because of the mess the previous mechanic made)

I had an issue with my car's transmission. The car was stranded, I looked up for the closest mechanic and General Mechanics had great reviews, so I had it towed there after hours. I was expecting to get my car back 2-3 days later. Instead, it was ready by 3 the next day! They even put on new wipers on my car that I had bought previously. Good, friendly service and fast. I hope I don't have a car repair need again, but if I do I will bring it to General Mechanics.

I’ve taken my cars to Ruben and his team for over 16 years and I have never been disappointed with the work or the service they provide. Ive had BMW’s to Volkswagens and others in between. He also recommends to use higher quality parts in order to keep your vehicle running for longer. It’s worth paying a few more dollars for parts and not having to replace them again for a while. He’s also very reasonable with his pricing as well as how fast they can have your car ready. I definitely recommend him and I will continue to take my vehicles to him when needed.
