Don't trust these guys. I bought a vehicle from my grandmother who had her vehicles worked on at great bear. I knew it needed suspension work and decided to take out the air ride and do a four corner conversion only to find out that the brilliant ass monkeys at great bear put the front upper control arms on the wrong sides when they are clearly stamped L 4x4 and R 4x4, so today I had to spend money on new arms new links ect because of the damage caused by their stupidity. HIRE REAL MECHANICS WHO CAN READ AND UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT AND LEFT. THEY ARE LUCKY IT DIDN'T CATASTROPHICALLY FAIL DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD .

Scheduled Saturday service on a Wed. They asked me if I could drop my car off Fri afternoon so they could have it ready Sat. I arrive Fri afternoon and they say they can't perform the service we agreed upon any longer and attribute it to personnel issues (fired 'Dave' who booked my appt). I'm driving 1500 miles this upcoming week and needed my oil + break pads changed and tires rotated...not a complicated job. Show some respect and notify your customers of problems ahead of time.

I spent $1,000 for new brakes here not long ago. I was having problems with the brakes so I went back because they were under warranty. I'm a teacher in LA and on vacations I do DoorDash. The rude and dishonest man at the desk said because I drove for DoorDash they considered it a commercial vehicle and would not honor the warranty even though 80% of my miles are driving to LA and back. They didn't mind taking a thousand dollars from an occasional doordash driver when I bought the brakes and they never mentioned that before the job was done even though the owner knew what I did for a living. BOTTOM LINE: THEY LOOK FOR REASONS TO NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTIES

We have known this business for over probably 14+ years. Can all clients be happy...Not! Well, they have taken care of all my cars and trucks stated with my 2007 Jeep, Sons little Chevy Spark, his 1963 VW Bug, My Tacoma, and my son's current 2006 Chevy Silverado and 2019 Honda Civic SI. Regular maintenance is the key to good vehicle health. You neglect your cars and drive them like manure then expect higher mechanic fees. The choice is yours. Maintain your vehicles health. I am Him to grown Beach Barber ExtraOrdinare soon to finally move away from California onto My home State North Carolina. Thank you

We recently took one of our cars to Bear Automotive for some repairs, and we were very pleased with their service. When we had picked up our car, we were impressed by the quality of the work. Our car ran like new again, and we're sure our students will feel confident driving it. Overall, we had an excellent experience with Bear Automotive, and we would highly recommend them to anyone in need of car repairs.

I brought my wife's madza and my daughters GMC in for a break job. Both vehicles were done poorly. Loud squeeking on both vehicles when they were done. Their excuse was that it is normal for cars to squeak because we live at the beach. I took it to another shop and told them what the staff told me at Bear Automotive. They laughed and fixed my vehicle. As for my daughter she had to take it to another mechanic who fixed the damage that Bear Automotive made So i recommend to go anywhere but Bear automotive.

I love this shop. Mark took on my car for a simple job, or so he thought. He ended up having to drop the engine to do the job. But bc my car is a 2006 everything went wrong. Things broke, and more parts needed to be ordered. It took more time than anticipated. Mark and his crew worked round the clock to get me my car. Very professional and highly recommended

These guys are pretty awesome! Even in 2023 it can be difficult to find a good honest mechanic that wont try to screw you over just because your a chick. They give good referrals for other car services that they don't perform at their shop. I really appreciate them helping me out and squeezing me in on a last minute basis. These guys are the best in Huntington Beach hands down!

I would not even give this place one star. We took our car in for a regular transmission maintenance and some shaking. They told us it was the motor mounts and the transmission mounts service the transmission. We paid them $1200. a week after we got the car, the car started jerking and shaking. I told my husband to check the transmission fluid. They never replaced the dipstick. When we took it back to them, they denied that anything was their responsibility at all. We have been going to this place for years and have loved them. They are now under new management and they are TERRIBLE and RUDE

Took my Ford Edge to have the brakes replaced. They are close to home and I wanted to support local businesses. After the brakes were done, the car started making rattling and squeaking noises. Took the car back to them 3 times and they still could not get it fixed or maybe did NOT want to. It became a waste of time and with frivolous excuses like 'oh it was a spring that was making noise' I got the impression I was being lied to. Took it to a different mechanic and it was the cheap brake pads that were rubbing against the rotor and making noise. I have no problem with a business making money but unethical behavior is unacceptable.

I went to this shop the entire 2.5 years I lived in Huntington Beach. They always treated my POS van with the same care and respect I would expect if I had a brand new Porsche. Excellent work and respectful staff. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Always best service and polite. Treat people with respect and dignity. Business is done the way it should be done. I will never take my vehicles anywhere else. Have been bent over so many times and these guys constantly amaze me by just being decent individuals. Triple A came out told me my battery could not be taken out and I needed major work to make that happen. Stopped by Bear and for free they took the battery out that was supposedly stuck no charge??? Took em 5 minutes. AAA guy was a schmuck. Be smart, trust this business and just say yes. You will thakn yourself in the long run if you care about your ride.

Mark makes it seem like he is doing you a “favor” by not doing unnecessary work. Safe to say this auto shop can’t even do the work they stated to have fixed… after making a follow up appointment to have the AC looked at again; they gave us the run around and said they could not work on our car at the time we requested in advance due to their busy day. Which we only found out after calling to confirm the appointment time. They would rather focus their priorities on a new customer than make sure their current client is taken care of. And now I had to have another auto mechanic fix their mistake. I will never recommend Great Bear Auto.

Absolutely awful experience from start to finish. When I first arrived, Mark was very unfriendly and short with me. I live down the street and my car was overheating on my way to work, so this was only option as I was desperate. My uncle, who lives over two hours away, gave me heads up about there being a likely coolant leak coming from the upper hose. I relayed this information to Mark and he said they would charge me a $150 inspection fee that would go toward the work being done. I agreed as I just wanted to know what was going on with my car. Mark calls me and confirmed that it was an upper hose coolant leak and that he could only get this hose from the dealership (lies). He quoted me $480, which is way overpriced. I called a different shop and they quoted me at $388, but it made no sense to go elsewhere because I still owed Mark $150 for the inspection fee. We go forward and he said he would receive the part the same day at 2pm and my car would be done at 5. I arrive to the shop at 5 and not only is my car not done, now they discover my temperature gage was broken which he charged me $125 for. He said my car would be done the next morning at 9. My car wasn’t ready until 11am. I drive to work with no problems and no overheating which I was so relieved about. The next morning I come out to my car to go to work and see a path of coolant on the cement. I couldn’t miss another day of work so I leave my car and get a ride to work cause the shop wasn’t open yet. I call Mark and give him a heads up of what’s going on and let him know I’ll be there around 4 to drop off my car. I get off of work early and take my car to the shop and walk home. Mark calls me as I’m walking into my place and says there’s nothing wrong with the car and it’s residual coolant leakage mixed with condensation/water coming from the air conditioner that was collecting on the bottom shield cover of my car. He even took me back to where they looked at my car and mansplaned it to me. I rush back to his shop to get my car before they leave. The next morning I have the same exact leakage and wait until they’re open to go back instead of going straight to work. Mark condescendingly explains the same thing and insists I’ll be fine. I drive to my uncle’s place for the weekend and my car starts to overheat while in on the highway. I get to my uncles house and he does a REAL inspection and discovers they clamped the coolant hose on incorrectly (please see photo) and that’s why it kept leaking. This awful establishment took advantage of me because I don’t know about cars and didn’t do their due diligence after over charging me and making me feel crazy for continuing to return after my car continued leaking coolant. Please save your time and money and go elsewhere. Mark is an awful person who is obviously very bad at his job.
