These guys are amazing. I've been here twice to get my oil changed and tires rotated and aligned. They've done a fantastic job, well above my expectations with thorough service check and excellent customer service. I always take my care here, you can trust this shop!!

My car’s tire pressure light is off. We stopped by this place real quick. The staff was super friendly and was able to help us right the way. Ended up filling the air pressure for all four tires for free. Love them. Highly recommended.

Denise was so nice and helpful on the phone! I took my car to the Chevy dealership in Sand City and they quoted my repairs at nearly 5,000.00. I took my car here for a second opinion and they fixed it for 400.00! Always smart to get a second opinion, and I really appreciate this business being ethical with their prices, I will definitely be back.

Great service. I come to them for almost 3 years with my car. They always explain the problems what are the options, and not pushing you for expensive repairs if they think are not necessary. Finding all the problems very professionally and the coast is very fair. I highly recommend. Before big trips with the kids I come and they check all the safety features in the car for about 23$. They pick you up from work or home and drop you off. Always with a smile and grace.

We came into town Friday at 1:30pm and our car was acting up. We found this place and they were very welcoming and looked at our truck and new right away what the problem was. They offered to take us to our motel while they fixed it and also recommended a cool place to get a drink Downtown. We opted to stroll around town which was awesome. Amazing people and amazing service. They had us back up and running in n less than 3 hours. Wish this place was in our hometown. Such great service.

Helpful, honest, and professional. I called Friday morning on behalf of my senior-parent who was in need of a front turn-signal light. They were quick to respond, checked their inventory to make sure they had the correct item, and had the vehicle in-and out in 20 minutes that very same afternoon! The total cost was for only the price of the bulb itself and not a penny more. Beyond grateful for their kindness and assistance. Extremely happy to support this local business in the future for any of my auto needs.

They were recommended to me by a friend, and so will recommend them to others. They gave me a ride home so I could get back to work. Before they did any work on my car they let me know the cost of the work which was very reasonable. As a woman I sometimes feel like mechanics will try to up sell everything, and I really appreciate that they didn’t do that.

So the good the bad and the ugly, read for a detailed description of my interaction with Matteson's. So I had a trip to SoCal Coming up and I knew that my mini cooper had been leaking some oil either from the valve cover or the oil pan or both. I called and took it to Matteson's based on these reviews. Here is the GOOD they got me in right away. Took a look and recommended only changing the valve cover gasket. I asked if we were doing that if we should go ahead a replace the valve cover but they said it wasn't necessary and I assumed they were the experts and took them at their word. A day later they were all done, again their speed is GOOD. I took my car and went on my way. On my trip the check engine light came on and my engine began to seize, not good. I pulled over and had to be towed all the way back in the the shop. Fearing the worst I asked them to take a look and tell me what was wrong. Turns out it WAS STILL LEAKING OIL FROM THE VALVE COVER and this is what caused the problem. They offered to fix it and not charge labor since I had been for this issue already. I asked if they could check the oil pan for leaks so I could be done with this issue once and for all and left my mini with them once again. Again a day later they called to let me know it was fixed once again the speed was GOOD. I arrived to pick it up and pay the bill and honestly I was shocked at the cost. I had done a research on all the possible costs of parts and the bill was honestly just way too high. I couldn't even afford to pay it all at once having already paid a bunch for the initial gasket replacement. It is my belief that they overcharged me for the part to make up for the "free" labor, it is the only explanation. They did let me pay in two payments after I explained that this was way more than I thought it was going to be and couldn't afford it. I asked about the oil pan and they told me It was they were unable to tell and that they had put a dye in so I could bring it back and know for sure. I again believe this was just another way for them to get me back in a charge me yet again for more work and here is why. I took it in to another place and they got it up on the lift and immediately told me that the plug in the oil pan wasn't even in all the way and that yes it was leaking from the pan due to this. I think that Matteson's believes that every person in this very affluent area is wealthy and that they can just afford to keep paying as long as the work is fast and this is just not the case. I can honestly say that I will not be back considering a simple oil leak cost me almost $2000.

I left my car at Matteson’s for a major service. This was the first time I used Matteson’s. When I picked up my car, it was very happy and had a huge smile because Matteson’s had treated it so very well. It told me that they had thoroughly and in detail inspected all of its systems and had done everything it needed and nothing that was not needed. When I went into the office to pay, I became even happier than my car. While I had received estimates of up to $1,000 for the major service from other shops, my bill was $179.36!!! Quite a difference!!! The staff at Matteson’s explained, in detail, what they had done and what they had not done. For example, rather than automatically replacing all of the filters, they had checked the filters and found that most of them were clean as could be and did not have to be replaced thereby saving hundreds of dollars. And, as an added bonus the staff at Matteson’s are extremely friendly and helpful, wonderfully reminiscent of the way businesses interacted with their customers many years ago. I am extremely fastidious when it comes to maintenance of my cars, and after this experience, I doubt that I will let anyone else touch my car and my car wholeheartedly agrees.

Once again, I have received exceptional service from Matteson’s Auto Repair. Recently, I stopped in without an appointment because my car was not accelerating properly. I just had AAA come out for a battery charge before the problem started . I explained to the receptionist that I needed to have it checked soon because I was on my way to work and was concerned about driving 45 minutes to my office. She stepped into the next room and talked to the owner Mike, who stopped what he was doing, and took it on a test drive. We drove around for 10 - 15 minutes and when no danger, lights came on he was puzzled, and suggested I leave it for the day so his crew could check it out. He offered to give me a ride home so he could take the car back. Then he turned the car off and restarted it, which reset the computer, and it drove perfectly fine after that. The fact that they heard my concern about getting to work timely and handled it expeditiously was great customer service! Then to top it off Mike insisted there was no charge. My previous experiences have been equally impressive. Besides the excellent job they do with maintenance services, when I had a tire sensor alert go on and went in, they repaired the tire immediately , I didn’t have to wait or come back. They always give an accurate estimate with no surprise charges at the end. They don’t upsell and pricing is good. Plus everyone is always professional and friendly. I love this place!

We can’t say enough great things about these guys! While traveling the PCH, our undercarriage cover came loose and needed to be re-secured. They took the car into a bay immediately and we were out of there in 15 minutes-didn’t even charge us! Would highly recommend to anyone needing auto service in Pacific Grove. Incredibly friendly service as well. Such great guys!

8/13/25 This is a neutral rating because I believe what I experienced is more than a customer service issue. The young lady at the front desk today seems to be in a mental crisis. It is not possible to reach the owner without getting her on the phone. I hope you see this quickly and check in on her.

I am posting a five star review for several reasons. First, I felt the technician was very honest. He was unable to fix the vehicle because it was a dealership problem with the codes. He did not charge me and gave me some really helpful information about the problems to help the dealer. Second, the staff is really friendly. I appreciated the quick service and their work ability with my schedule. So even though the car did not get fixed, I would go to them again

I asked for a tire patch, but was only given a tire plug. I proceeded to tell them that I asked for a patch and not a plug and they told me that they're the same thing, even though everyone knows that they aren't. The owner also confronted me and my brothers telling us to "don't complain" when asking about the what happened. Another thing, we were promised a TIRE PATCH for $35 which is already overpriced. They proceeded to charge us $35 for a tire plug for something we could have done ourselves. Mind you, this service only costs $5 anywhere else. Overall, the workers are nice and respectful, but the owner and the Karen working at the front were dishonest and scammy.

Update: The owner reached out, which is normally a good indicator that there's a level of responsibility and care within the organization. Hopefully this is a one-off situation, and we can resolve this together. DO NOT USE their services. We had an old change and they forgot to put the drain plug back into the vehicle. Now we are stranded in Castroville with three kids, and no mechanics shops are open. They charged us $131 for an oil change. Now I have to get an uber to get my kids home 30 minutes away, a tow truck, and we will miss our $800 event in San Francisco.

I brought my van in with what I was convinced was a need for new brake pads and rotors. Any other place could have taken that and run with doing the job. As a testimony to their integrity and honesty, they went through their checks and called me back. They said my brakes and pads were good and I did not need any service. Thank you so much for the piece of mind and assurance. Would highly recommend.

I am not a regular customer as I drive an EV. However, when my daughter and her three kids drove down for the night from the San Jose area, I used my daughter’s Audi to drop them off at the Aquarium. On the drive home, a warning light came up on the Audi dashboard that the car was a quart low. I initially thought I’d buy a quart of oil at the convenience store, pour it into the oil reservoir and I could rest easy that my daughter and grandkids were safe to drive home. Little did I realize that adding a quart of oil to an Audi is harder than getting a cat to like a dog. First, I couldn’t find the dip stick (other than looking in a mirror), much less the oil reservoir. I looked it up in the car manual in the glove box but the reservoir is hidden under plastic panels that are anything but easy to remove. Finally, in a moment of inspiration, I stopped by Matteson’s Auto Repair in downtown Pacific Grove who explained that there are no dipsticks any more and that they would be happy to help me. They literally stopped what they were doing and added a quart of oil faster than an Indy 500 pit crew. The owner refused to accept anything more than a nominal fee so I tipped the mechanic with his permission. Anyway, the point of this story is that Matteson’s knows how to treat customers and the fact they wouldn’t accept more than a token charge for my stop-the-presses oil change, tells that they are honest guys who deserve more business. Well done and thank you!!
