I was really happy that I went to Minnesota Repair to fix my car for many different reasons. The first reason is location. The location is very convenient to drop off your car and take a bus home since it is right off rice street! The second reason, is that the gentalman I talked to there was professional acting over the phone and in person. The guy I talked to was straight to the point and didn't act like I was dumb because I don't know anything about cars. He just asked simply questions that helped him understand what was going on. The third reason is that my car got right in and got finished in timely fashion other people said they wanted to keep my car for days which can't happen because I need to get to work. Also Minnesota Repair is open everyday besides Sunday which makes it convenient! The fourth reason is that I didn't get over charged and I know this for a fact because I had the same thing fixed and was charged more money. Lastly most important my car got fixed the problem I had! I will be taking to Minnesota Repair from now on! I trust this place. Do what I did make the smart educated decsion after reading reviews and go to Minnesota Repairs to fix your cars problems!

The people that work here are very honest and actually care about their customers. I felt very respected even when I was freaking out in the sidelines when my car was lifted. They even replaced my catalytic converter for a reasonable price!

We moved to St. Paul in 1987, and our landlord at the time recommended Minnesota Repair ("Carrick's" at the time) when we had car trouble. We have been taking our cars there for 28 years! The same guys all these years! My review will re-state what others have already said in previous reviews: * they are excellent at their job: figuring out what's wrong with a car * excellent at fixing whatever it is * THEY DON'T PRESSURE YOU TO FIX STUFF THAT DOESN'T NEED FIXING!!! This is particularly important to me. They let us know if they see something that needs fixing, but they also let us know if it can wait a while, or if it is really important or if it doesn't matter that much. * they are honest, men of integrity. Particularly important in this kind of business where one can easily be taken advantage of. This is the only car repair shop I would recommend to anyone with full confidence, and we have had some friends and family that have also made Minnesota Repair their car repair shop because of our experience.

My husband and I have been bringing our vehicles to MN. Repair since we moved into the North End of St. Paul since 1999. We have always owned used vehicles, both domestic and imported, most recently a 2011 Toyota Prius. We have found them to be honest, helpful, and knowledgeable. So much so that when my sister and brother-in-law drove up to see us this spring from Missouri and were having trouble with their Honda Civic, I sent them to MN. Repair. Chris and the boys assessed the problem and fixed the car (at reasonable rates) to my brother-in-laws' satisfaction. We are very happy we found this repair shop and recommend them highly!

Went to get brake change. Everything else is really good but they didn't double check if they tighten the wheels, back wheels weren't tighten and were ready to fall out. Was driving for about a week before noticing. Went back to get it checked but they were on break or something and had to go to somewhere else. The other mechanic told us the wheel were almost about to pop out. Could've been a very bad accident.

When I moved to St. Paul in late 2008 I needed to find a new oil change provider. *sigh* I hate doing that -- I can't imagine it's high on anyone's Love To Do list. But, lo and behold, a mere 1.5 miles away from our house is Minnesota Repair. "How much easier can this get?" I pondered. Sure, it's close to home... ...but that's not why I continue to be a loyal customer at this locally-owned and operated auto repair shop. What keeps me going back? The guys who work there are good at what they do. They're honest. They're super-nice. AND they never, EVER pressure anyone to buy something they don't need. You know exactly what I'm talking about: the Big Brand auto companies where you go in for a "quick" oil change and end up having to send back the mechanic 3-4 times with "No, I don't need a new air filter. No, I don't want to upgrade to whatever-it-is you're trying to sell me. No, please just change the oil!" The mechanics at Minnesota Repair don't do that. They're not going to pressure you into buying a ton of superfluous items. What they're interested in is doing a good job. And they love repeat business -- they know their clients by name and welcome everyone with a smile. An oil change is an oil change, but these guys just do good business. Plus, they're local! So, support a small business and call Minnesota Repair :) *Disclaimer: I know they offer MANY more services than mere oil changes; I've also had tires replaced/fixed there, engine checks, etc. But they do a lot more than what I know about!

I had a very frustrating experience with this mechanic. I had bought a used SUV that began leaking transmission fluid a couple hours after we bought it. I brought it here and they told me that there were a bunch of tiny cracks in the transmission and that it would need to be replaced. A couple days later I brought the vehicle back to the dealer and looked at the transmission with their mechanic. We looked over the whole transmission and didn't find one crack. All the fluid was leaking from a loose bolt. We tightened the bolt and no more fluid came out and the car ran fine. I would like to say this was an honest mistake by Minnesota Repair but the mechanic there went into detail about all the cracks in the transmission without there being any to speak of. To me there are 2 reasons for this mistake. 1. they didn't look at the transmission closely to actually find the problem and just assumed it needed to be replaced. 2. They willfully deceived me into getting it replaced. Either scenario is pretty worrying

We're from out of town and our "service engine soon" light came on. Called a bunch of places, they were not available to diagnostic tests until Monday. Finally found this shop, called and was able to accommodate and run the test. Considering it was a Saturday and appointments were booked everywhere else, we were so thankful! Drove to the repair shop and met the owner, Jame. He is awesome! Was quick to assess our vehicle and told us what needed to be replaced. Told us that the wait was going to be about 2 hrs, he called for the parts and thank goodness they were in stock. He got the job done in less than 2 hrs! Professional and courteous! If we ever encounter car troubles again in while in the city, would definitely come back to his shop!

We've been coming to Minnesota Repair for 9 years. Chris and his experienced staff have always kept our high-mileage cars running smoothly and at a fair price. As a woman, there have been many times I've walked into other shops over the years and known that they were taking advantage of me. That has never happened at Minnesota Repair! I tell them what I do know, they explain what I don't know and I am confident when I walk out of there that my car and I are getting the best care. The service is top notch with a personal touch. The shop is clean, well maintained and organized. The guys are friendly and knowledgeable. I have recommended Minnesota Repair to several friends. For as long as we live in the Metro, Minnesota Repair is where we will take our cars for care!

EDIT: I got my front brakes done a month ago, and my brakes went all the way out a couple days ago. It was snowing that day so I wondered if it was just slippery, but no, the brake lines were out. It was scary and someone could have been hurt. Minnesota repair denied that they had anything to do with it, that the issue was with the rear. Idk if I believe them or not. But that aside, they replaced my brake lines and re-bled them. I paid ($300), get to my truck, and the pedal still goes right to the floor. They didn’t tie off one of the brake lines? I wish I knew more about those so I could articulate it. But anyway they fixed it again in 20 minutes and it wasn’t the end of the world, but they clearly hadn’t test-driven my vehicle before giving it back to me. I just drove to Maplewood and back with no issues but I admit I’m a little wary. They lost a star for this. — I've been pretty loyal to Brausen Auto, but I have had a suspicion that they are starting to really upcharge repairs in the last couple years. I looked around to other local shops, and had a great experience at Minnesota Repair. They quoted me $330 to replace the fuel tank straps on my truck. Brausen quoted me $600. Minnesota repair was able to get me in same day, but I opted for the next day (a Saturday). They had it all taken care of in 3 hours. No nonsense. They seem honest and hardworking and I really appreciate that.

They told me to bring my car in for them to take a look at it. And then they wouldn't let me leave without charging me a diagnostic fee that they didn't tell me about ahead of time. I thought I was going to have to call the police. Shady business imo. Definitely would not go back.

Absolutely Do Not Recommend I went to this shop and paid $350 for what I was told would be good, reliable tires. What I got instead were poor-quality tires that clearly weren’t worth the money. Not even a week later, I started noticing issues. When I tried to reach out about it, the customer service was rude and unhelpful. They clearly didn’t care about making it right or standing by what they sold me. I would never go back to this place to get my car fixed. Save yourself the time, money, and stress—go somewhere else.
