I’ve gone to pep boys for 20+ years now. Different cities and locations and I’ve always felt like they are honest I recently took my car in bc brakes were shaking on downhill. They were honest and said it’s only front brakes and I only need to resurface rotors. They could have said it’s brakes on both axels or that I need new rotors but as always they are honest. When I had my car at the dealership over 2 years ago for a recall they told me all brakes need replaced and the brakes were really bad. Not long after that I went to pep boys for an oil change and they said brakes were fine and about 50 % on the pads. And my brakes were fine for the last few years. In an industry where many seem to be dishonest and recommend unnecessary things to make money the honesty at pep boys keeps me loyal and makes me recommend them to everyone

HORRiBLE customer service. This is my first time visiting Pep Boys ever and it’s a pathetic experience. Never visiting this place again. I had a charging system issue with my Honda Pilot and I brought my vehicle to this center for diagnosis. Michelle assisted with the check-in. An hour later, she called me and said it’s an alternator issue and needs to be replaced. She gave an estimate of $850, $385 for alternator and remaining for labor. I asked if there is any discount, she said they can’t do anything on the part, but they could give discount on labor to a total charge of $700. I was amazed for the customer service and asked her to proceed. Later in the evening when I went to pickup the vehicle, I realized that they put in the remanufactured alternator and the charge is $258 for the part. She never told me they are going to install REMAN alternator. I questioned the part and the charges, the person checked the stock and they said they don’t have the new alternators in stock. He asked me to call back the next day as Michelle had left for the day. Next day, Michelle argued with me that they will always install REMAN alternators and she thought I was aware of it. I told her she quoted $385 for alternator (charge for new one) and the part they installed is $258 and she never discussed this with me. She said I asked for discount and she replaced original part with this one and completely denied the labor discount that she offered in previous call. I don’t trust this place, these people are liars and never taking my car to this place again. This place will be out of business very soon for their bad business practices and poor customer service.

This is the worst service I have ever encountered. I just came to change the oil. I waited in line for 2 hours and in the end they couldn't change it, saying that the battery was dead. They broke it. I went to fix it at a neighboring Toyota service center, where I spent 5.5 hours fixing it and paid $490 for a new battery and the consequences of its breakage. I returned to the service center, but they said it was too late, they were closed. But he said: "Wait, I'll check and come back." I waited 15 minutes, of course he didn't come back. I came to the office myself, and he had completely forgotten who I was. He suggested that I come back in 2 days. Why did I wait? This is disrespect for a client who is already tired of you. 1 star

I was super confused with what was going on with my car, after being told by another place my car was fine I kept driving but same metal sounds was getting worse. So wasnt fine. Called and took my car to Pep Boys had an appointment. They were so kind and efficient with their service. The kind woman at the front desk, was amazing I think her name is Michelle, she was so kind to me. She helped me with pricing and was patient when I kept asking for more things. Although I place a very high value on customer service, I’m a very busy person and don’t often take the time to write messages like this. However, the professionalism, care, and consideration shown in my situation truly compelled me to do so. My car battery died and my vehicle would not start. AAA—by the way—is absolutely worth its weight in gold. Here in Southern California, on the Malibu end, Austin from AAA came out and assisted me. He was efficient, professional, timely, and clear in explaining that my battery had died. He also referred me to an excellent Pep Boys location at 2099 E Thousand Oaks, which turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. At Pep Boys, Michelle and Jose—along with Jose, the technician who worked on my car—were absolutely incredible. Their friendliness, kindness, and the genuine light in their eyes were immediately noticeable. It was clear they truly enjoy helping people. Not only did they make the process easy and stress-free, but they also gave me an exceptional deal. I had already received multiple quotes from other places and never mentioned them—yet they beat those prices by a significant amount. That meant more to me than they probably realize, as money is tight for me right now. They also took the time and paid close attention to detail to ensure everything was done correctly and thoroughly. I felt confident driving away knowing my car was in excellent condition. I honestly cannot thank them enough. More than anything, it was their genuine friendliness and humanity that truly made my day. Experiences like this matter, and they deserve to be recognized. I brought my car in the other day because I had a nail in my tire. The nail was in the dead center of the tire and was clearly repairable. Your staff told me it “couldn’t be fixed” and immediately tried to sell me a brand-new tire instead. That did not sit right with me, so I took my car down the street to Firestone for a second opinion. I did not tell them anything about what Pep Boys had said because I wanted an honest assessment. They patched the tire with no problem at all, with no upsell or pressure. After the repair, I asked if there was any legitimate reason Pep Boys would not have been able to fix it, and I was told no. The tire was perfectly fixable and there was no reason it couldn’t have been repaired. This experience felt dishonest and sales-driven rather than customer-focused. Trying to push a customer into buying something they don’t need, especially when the repair is straightforward, is not acceptable. I hope this feedback is taken seriously because situations like this are exactly why people lose trust in auto service businesses, and it is the reason why I will never be returning to Pep Boys for any service needs in the future.

While Jason, (mechanic) was doing an oil/filter change, he noticed other serious automotive concerns that needed immediate repair! Jason told Jose (asst. manager at the Thousand Oaks, CA) all the automotive problems he found during a complimentary vehicle inspection. Jose was very thorough in reviewing the information and sharing it with me. Jose was very professional, courteous and was a very good listener when I was informing him my automotive concerns with my 2006 Ford Explorer. Beware! They will try to scam you out of more money. I took my truck in for an alignment on a Sunday, after two hours of being there Jose Luis tells me "my guy that know more about alignment isn't here today and we can't get your caster and camber aligned, can to come back on Wednesday at 3pm?" So I did. On Wednesday after being there for an hour Jose Luis tell me "my technician is telling he needs more time to properly adjust your caster and camber, can you leave the truck all day tomorrow it's going to be 2-3 hours of work and I have to get you an estimate on that" I told him "I already paid you for the alignment" he said "caster and camber is not included that's going to be extra $50 per hour plus any parts needed" I told him to give it to me in writing. I immediately called two other shops and they told me that the caster and camber was part of the standard alignment. I went took my keys from Jose Luis, told him that he had lied to my and his face showed fear of getting caught. I took my truck to Big Brand Tires and they had me in and out in less than one hour with a proper alignment, no extra parts and not with 2-3 hours of labor. I called Jose Luis to get a refund and told him that I had the job done and he tried to scam me out of more money. He denied it and said "you misunderstood" RIGHT! Please don't go there and waste money and time.

Great experience today at this Pep Boys. Setting appointment online was easy. Dropped car for oil change and upon free inspection, I was provided with photos of my car’s tires that were cracking on the sides. Jose was great and explained the situation in detail. Got two new tires to replace the cracked ones. Jason worked on the car and got everything done well and as quickly as possible. He noticed a lug nut was missing from one of my wheels. He explained the safety concern and told me where I could find a replacement. Both Jose and Jason were friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks guys - I appreciate you!
