This shop constantly sends me emails, mailers, and even holiday cards encouraging me to keep using their services. I’ve taken two vehicles here in the past for transmission work and was seen the same day, which I appreciated. But for the past two months, I’ve been trying to get in touch with someone about two different Jeeps—one needs a new transmission, and the other needs the transfer case resealed. For the first Jeep, I called three times and was told someone would get back to me. I only received one call, and when I tried returning it, no one answered. For the second Jeep, I was told someone would call me with a quote—I missed the call, called back, and again, no response. If you’re going to go out of your way to advertise to me so persistently, at least make sure your service matches the same energy.

It's been a long time since I've been to Protrans Automotive and I had a different car then but still a great experience. I decided to go back for a second opinion on some work that the dealer said I needed. Come to find out nothing needed fixing. ANOTHER 2025 UPDATE So my "check transmission" light would come on and then go off. It might have been any number of things, but the recommendation was to rebuild the tranny after 100,000+ miles. It's an old car. I'm buying a new car. But this old car will be great for a backup ride. And I'm attached to it. I was able to wrap my brain around the expense. ProTrans has always had a transmission expertise, and this current result is a knock-down, stand-up superb performance. The Trooper runs and shifts better. It doesn't have a leak problem anymore. I checked stories of friends who maintained old vehicles, some with engine overhaul and even more than once. Take the Consumer Price Index for each year and apply it to those expenses of 30 years ago. You come out with a number close to what I paid today. I can drive around with total confidence now and visit dealerships to pick the new ride. It's about time. I am advised that "I deserve it". But ProTrans has done great keeping up my old Trooper, and likely continue to do so. ProTrans is extremely reliable in getting to the bottom or cause of any problem. We replaced my alternator after the idiot charge light came on. They quoted me $500, and there was a short in the alternator wire requiring attention to it and replacement of the voltage regulator in the newly rebuilt alternator. They sent me home with a vehicle in perfect shape, for about $600, given the additional complications.

These guys are the real deal. From the moment I called, the lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Never left me waiting or wondering. I took my car for a check engine light and hesitation at idle. It was a Friday so I half expected nothing to be done until the following week anyway but was hoping for a diagnostic check. Car sat all day without a check so I called at 2 they said they would get to it soon and call back. No call. Place closes at 5, I call at 430 and they said they ran a diagnostic and don’t see a light on or anything wrong. I said I will come pickup the car. Soon as I picked it up… check engine light on and it’s doing the same hesitation. All that was wrong was the spark plug. Easy fix and they could’ve made money on labor but I had to go elsewhere. Do not recommend

Protrans Automotive is a shop you can trust to get your repairs done right. They deal with OEM parts on major repairs. Communications excellent on estimates and with state of the art billing software. If you have an older vehicle needing major engine repairs, this is the shop. I recently had timing chain, spark plugs and oil pan gasket replaced on a ford 5.4, a beast of a job. You can trust your repairs will be done right and warranted. I'm glad to have found this repair shop since recently moving to Riverside from Hawaii. Check them out before going anywhere else. Highly recommended.

August 2025: 2012 VW Tiguan. Had a turbo leak and visited Protrans for the first time. Guided me through everything by giving frequent updates. Great service! January 2026: Visited for a regular oil change + and Auto transmission fluid change. Took two days. I would've preferred if I received timely updates rather than me having to call frequently. Good service as always nonetheless.
