My few experiences here have all been positive. My general feeling is this is a mechanic shop you can trust. The proprietor and mechanics have all been upfront and honest and reasonably priced. I'm definitely going back.

I checked with 9 different mechanics in San Gabriel area for strut replacement on my 2011 Lexus. San Gabriel Automotive was the ONLY one who gave me the most honest quote for labor and parts; they were even ok with me providing my own parts to save money. Other shops tried to quote me nearly DOUBLE the price I paid at SGA, hoping I wasn't car knowledgeable. Save your time, and pick this auto mechanic.

Honest mechanic, won’t upsell you or try to change anything on your vehicle you don’t actually need. Which can’t be said for many other mechanics.

Richard is a wizard. My first experience, he immediately diagnosed my AC problem, got the right part, and had it fixed within hours. Recently my car seat got stuck in the down position, and my car dealership wanted $1,200 and said it would take months. Richard took care of it for $20 and a screwdriver. I can't imagine going anywhere else.

This shop is very busy, if you go there on Saturday at 830am on the supposed opening time, there are customer waiting there already and mechanic are already working on cars. The guy not sure if he is owner or manger is slow at service writing and he just basically ignore you and tell you he still have many people ahead of you that he have no time to deal with when you try to talk to him. Yet, there is no lines and everyone including customer just came in have no clue who's getting service next. Very disorganize as a service shop. They need a person dedicating dealing with customers and give numbers as in fast food restaurant. Other than that I'll said their behavior is not professional. Unless you have emergency or have language barrier issue (they speak Chinse) I won't recommend this place.

Been doing smog checks ($20.00) and auto repairs and maintenence here as needed for many years. The prices are fair and the work is done efficiently and properly. I recommend their services. Plan ahead as they can get busy early.

Richard is the man! He and his staff members know how to work on a car. Experience matters and they all got it. I often get my synthetic engine oil change here. I bring my own oil and they charge me $25 for labor. Not too shabby! Lol 😂

San Gabriel Automotive is a great choice if you’re in the area, they can do simple from an oil change and smog check to something complex like fixing your suspension or engine. They operate first come, first served… so go early if you can. They have 8 car bays plus an extra area to the side. Typical wait time if it’s not too busy is 30-45 minutes: this includes the time it takes to get your car into their queue, into a car bay, the oil change or smog service, and a trip to the cashier. On a busy day: I’ve waited 3 hours to get my car serviced and back, luckily there’s plenty of places nearby for food and/or drinks (coffee, tea, boba). I highly recommend coming here if you value trust (they’ll tell you the good, the bad, the costs, and an estimated wait time) and straightforward quality work.

The owner, Richard is very honest and helpful. He takes care of all the car related issues and gives you a hand whenever they can. The shop is always busy and you might need to wait or go grocery shopping across the street, but you won’t find anyone this trustworthy often! Highly recommended!!!

I started using their service when I lived in the area, but I have kept coming back even after I moved 50 miles away to Ontario, because I simply couldn’t find any other mechanics better or comparable. Richard is super knowledgeable, professional, and most important of all, he is very honest and trustful. It’s a great blessing having a car mechanic you can rely on, because it saves so much headache, time, money and negotiation. Highly recommended !!

I had a tune up done on my 2000 Taurus, a very expensive tune up. The Bill came to almost $500. It ran OK for the 1st few weeks- a Month ...Then it wouldn't even start (turnover) Either they didn't go thru it thuroughly and check everything or it was not done properly. Its still sitting in my driveway ...Have contacted Cars for Kids to donate it. TOTAL LOSS 😢

I was changed oil at this place last month and now my car gets a problem with black smoke! I come to fix it again and they refused it and said the machine problem! Please be careful with this place and kindly check your car after fixing on this place!

I’ve been going to Richard for many many years. I got me a Honda which the dealership is now saying I need the liquids changed. When taking it to Richard and telling him what they said not only did he say no I didn’t need that right now he even showed me how clean the liquids of the car looked. Dealership trying to charge me $1500 ha anything to get money but not Richard VERY HONEST and reasonable prices. Highly recommend this place unless you like people taking your money 😳

I feel completely deceived by this repair shop. My car was perfectly fine before — no problems at all with the engine or anything else. My friend suggested I change my car’s oil at this shop since it’s close to where I live, so I decided to do it there. Everything seemed fine at first, but a few hours later, the oil warning light came on with a message saying “Turn off the engine and check oil level.” So I went back to the shop, and the worker said, “We added too little oil, but it’s been fixed now — it’s safe.” I trusted them. But the next day, the oil light came on again. I went back and forth four times to get it fixed, and eventually one of the cylinders got damaged — my engine started shaking and releasing smoke! When I complained, they said, “It’s not our fault; we followed the proper procedure.” But if they really followed the proper procedure, why did the oil warning keep coming on? Then they said, “Tow your car back to us and we’ll check it for free.” So I paid $300 for towing to bring my car back to them. Without even checking it, they immediately said, “You need to take this to an Audi dealer — we don’t have Audi parts. One of your cylinders is damaged, and this has nothing to do with the oil.” And the mechanic even said, “I’ve been working as a mechanic for 40 years — there’s no way I made a mistake!” I’m extremely frustrated with their service. They keep saying it’s not their fault! But according to ChatGPT, an incorrect oil change can affect the engine cylinder! Do not go to this place — their service is terrible and completely unprofessional!
