I brought my 2000 Toyota 4 runner to Sharif (the shop owner) because the check engine light was on. He was able to inspect the car really quickly and offer a good price for the repair. He’s super friendly, gave me updates throughout the process, and his service was really quick as I was able to pickup my car the following day. I drove up to San Mateo from Los Angeles a few months ago. As I was approaching San Mateo, I noticed that my BMW X5 was billowing smoke, so I popped the hood and noticed that the valve cover had a pretty huge leak. I called San Mateo Automotive Service the next day on Saturday, but I think the mechanics were busy at the time, and no one was able to pick up my call, so I reached out to like 5 other mechanics around the area, and eventually made an appointment with another mechanic to have my car fixed a couple days later. Mohammad from San Mateo Automotive Service called me back soon afterwards, and he was very professional and straightforward; He told me that he had availability that day (which was amazing), and he gave me a price that was 20% less than the other mechanic that I had found; I didn't even bargain - I just said yes, and immediately brought my car in. At around 7pm, he called me and told me that my car was done (they close at 5pm on Saturdays). He stayed late because he wanted me to have my car back that day. He also noticed that there were a few bolts and screws that were missing on some of the panels on the engine bay, and he replaced those at no additional cost. My only regret was that I made him wait a bit because my Uber driver had a delay. Mohammad and San Mateo Automotive Services rocks! I'm a garage mechanic myself, and taking off the valve cover for a BMW X5 requires quite a lot of work. I would trust this guy fully to work on my car. His prices were very fair, he's trustworthy, and he's super knowledgeable on European cars. I just wish his shop was in Los Angeles ;)!

Honest, Transparent, and Excellent Service! I recently visited San Mateo Automotive for a free diagnostic and check engine light reset, After intense fear about my check engine light coming on and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. From the moment I arrived, they took great care of me—Staff offering me water, making me feel welcomed, and showing up for me even though it was just a diagnostic. The mechanic Mohammad was extremely honest and transparent, taking the time to explain what was going on with my car without any pressure . He confirmed my catalytic converter wasn’t an urgent issue, gave me insight into my brakes, and provided total peace of mind about my car’s condition. I’ve been to places where mechanics try to upsell unnecessary repairs, but this experience was completely different. No pushiness, just genuine care and honesty. Even though I didn’t spend money that day, I truly appreciate their time and will absolutel because he was honest and told me it wasn't a big issue I definitely will be coming back for future services. I am incredibly impressed by Mohammad, and consider myself fortunate to have had him as our auto mechanic over the past few years. We came to him out of desperation a few years ago, when another mechanic did a substandard job. Mohammad sized things up, and decisively fixed the issue that flummoxed others. In the years since, each time we've visited him, Mohammad has done a superlative job fixing things, at an affordable rate. He's also uncompromisingly honest and has been upfront about what needs to be done, or what is superfluous. He's also reliable — when he says something will be completed by a certain time, it will be done by then. No delays or runarounds. There's a reason that we keep on coming back, even though it's out of our way and there are mechanics closer to where we live. Thank you, Mohammad!

I am impressed by the professional and high quality work. Since then, we have been sending our car for repairs and maintenance, and San Mateo Automotive successfully delivers each time. For example, we have wiring damages from rodent chewing the wires, and within the same day, our mechanic was able to fix the problem for a good price. We’re incredibly grateful for the work he does.
