Took my camper van ford transit 2019 there to check my tires to see if I needed to get new tires and or alignment. Upon inspection of my tires Chris notified me they look good and then offered to check the pressure because I do not have a tire pressure management system. Everything checked out and I was on my way. I’ll definitely come back and buy my tires here as well as take my other cars for their mechanical needs. Santa Cruz Tire and Auto was referred to me Amcco and is very honest hard to find these days.

Ive only been here once and will definitely be back. The rear door on my jeep was stuck closed. I took it in and Frank had a look at it, fixed it in under 5 minutes and had me on my way! I went for a smog certificate. Use first-come-first-serve scheduling for smog. Got right in. Very friendly staff. Well organized and efficient. Reasonable price too. The shop I formerly used had been closed due to death of owner so I checked out alternatives and chose this place. It's better than my usual shop actually so will always use in the future. I gave up my Costco membership and intend to use this shop for tires in the future as well. Very easy access right off the freeway. They carry Michelin, which I use, and other brands, so I'm all set with that. My first impression from this visit is excellent. The business has been remodeled so my newer photos apply.

1.Overcharged! I paid $256 for a simple transmission oil change, drain and fill which I supplied the oil for. I was told the process would take a couple of hours so I thought that quoted price broke down to a fair hourly rate ..However to my surprise the work took less then one hour to complete. That equates to a hourly rate of $256 an hour. Had I known the process was a simple as a regular engine oil change that i can get done for less then $100 practically anywhere and the oil is supplied i never would have agreed to let them do it.$256 for a simple procedure and less than an hour of the mechanic's time does not seem reasonable to me When the job was complete i asked Chris the service advisor how dirty the old oil was to determine if i might require a second oil change to insure the proper oil quality. Chris said there were no notes in that regard or comments on the job completion record. Not a minor detail or piece of information in my opinion that a concerned auto repair center would /should dismiss so lightly. But Cris did not give it a second thought. Not a real confidence builder. I didn't get the feeling Chris was looking out for my best interest. Nor was he even inquisitive as to why I was asking the question. 2.. Very recently I paid Santa Cruz Tire and Auto Care $150 ( same test at Firestone $39.95) to do a pressure test to find a small leak in one of the coolant hose on my same car . They identified the hose that was supposedly causing the problem and they provided me with a part number. It was a tiny hose so I ordered it and replaced it myself. Today when they were doing the transmission oil change on my car they came back and said you have a coolant leak. I told Chris I replaced the hose they identified during the last recent coolant pressure test. Chris tried to convince me that their last pressure test due to hose functioning or non functioning complications could have mask a different hose that now turned up leaking as well. He tried to guilt me into believing that it would not be fair to him if he were to do another pressure test to identify the leak without charging me another $150 for a new pressure test. I'm sorry, after paying them $150 i expected them to tell be all the hoses that were problematic. They never said if you replace this hose we just identified and it doesn't solve the problem we will have to charge you another $150 to do another similar pressure check. And i guess that process would continue until I ran out of hoses. That sounds like a money grab to me. Total RipOff, It never occured to Cris that his mechanics may have misdiagnose the hose that they told me was leaking during the first pressure test. And so even though I replaced it it did not solve the problem. At this point I felt Cris had become defensive and argumentative and so I decided to end the discussion. This review is what I would have told Chris if I felt he was receptive and empathetic enough to treat me as a customer the way he would wanted to be treated if the roles were reversed. San Jose Tire and Auto Care charges top of the line prices as indicated above. Therefore Is it to much to ask a customer who has paid top dollar to leave San Jose Auto Care feeling that you have been treated fairly and the issues that were serviced were resolved. I don't. What a great shop. My PT Cruiser needed smogged. I was handed an instruction sheet and a set of directions to follow. Drove it towards Watsonville turned around and followed them to a t. Rolled into the shop and they did the smog. I passed the first time. Nice outside tables and indoor seating. I listened to the conversations with other drivers and the advice they gave was spot on by the book responses. Some really great folks you cen truly trust. ireally appreciatted the kind service.
