Smarter Homes Austin did a fantastic job helping us get internet reestablished after we switch to Google Fiber. Google’s installed were unable to run any wiring to our top floor and so our new WiFi barely covered 30% of our house. Smarter Homes quickly rectified this issue and integrated fiber into the Unifi network they had previously installed for us. We now have incredibly fast internet on our whole property. They are always punctual, courteous, and work clean and efficiently. One of the best companies I’ve ever worked with!!

Smarter Homes setup our home network years ago, complete with the ability to mix and match sound in most rooms via Sonos, multiple TVs through Roku, and LAN and 2 wireless networks (main and guest). They have been very helpful through the years in maintaining and improving our network, but the last couple years we were pretty stable so didn’t need anything done. Unfortunately we lost our internet Friday and a long and painful conversation with an AT&T rep only led to me completely resetting the modem to the factory defaults, while the actual original problem was a broken line at the street. It was repaired by Friday night, but our Ubiquity network didn’t come back up due to the resetting of the modem. Not wanting to go through another painful conversation with AT&T, I took a shot in the dark and texted the contact number I had for Smarter Homes at 8pm. To my pleasant surprise, I got an almost immediate response and a couple text and a call initiated by them later that night led to identifying the issue with the modem and how to fix it (modem had to be put in IP passthrough mode and a specific power up sequence followed). I don’t know of any company (especially an AV company) where one could get such service as noted above, and highly recommend their services to others.

This was our first time using Smarter Homes and the service was more than fantastic! Peter himself - the business owner even offered to come and do the installation as well! Our appointment was the day the terrible ice storm hit, but Colter quickly put us back on track and scheduled us in for service immediately. Alex, the tech came over for a walk through for a hardwire install for our projector and knew exactly what was needed to be done. He even offered to install the projector to add to our service as well. The gentleman on the day of installation ended up fitting time for our hardwire AND projector installation. We were also having difficulty booking an electrician to install the ceiling outlet & they immediately had me on the phone with someone to come out. (They also kindly enough carved out the outlet hole for the electrician to save him some time!) We are very thrilled with the customer service by the company and 100/100 recommend them. We will definitely use them again for future services :)

** Adding to my original review below. Pete, Andrew, and the Smarter Homes team recently updated our smart home system, as it was about six years old. As always, they did a fantastic job and made the system much more efficient and reliable. A new feature was connecting a turntable to our Sonos system (see attached pics). The record player connects wireless to the home sounds system and can be placed anywhere, and the vinyl sounds great throughout the house and outdoors. This was something I did not realize was possible today, and Pete made it easy. I've been working with these guys for seven years and I continue to highly recommend! I would highly recommend Smarter Homes of Austin. Peter and his team installed our smart home system a few years ago, and it has been great and incredibly reliable. But I particularly recommend them because of their diligent and timely maintenance, and their quick responsiveness in the few times our system has needed attention. As a recent example, we were having a big Thanksgiving gathering at our house this past year (the first major holiday for us to host at this house). A few days before the holiday, we lost connectivity to our outdoor system. We reached out to Andrew Mason, and he moved some things around on his schedule and came out to our house the very next day and quickly fixed the issue, well in advance of our family gathering. We were very appreciative! We plan to use Smarter Homes for future installations at our home, and we highly recommend that others consider working with them.

What stands out is their knowledge, responsiveness, and most importantly, the fit & finish of their work. From custom homes theatre systems, full home audio, complex security system, full home internet security and optimization, to cameras we continue to feel confident to trust Smarter Homes with our families Home Technology needs. From identifying the right hardware that fits the budget, aesthetic, and objectives - to finding the right blend of software that meets our families needs has been their secret sauce. For example, in our main living room we wanted a full movie experience, so we identified the right TV and Audio combination to meet those objectives, but in our kids playroom where the only thing on is a cartoon, a medium quality TV was more than sufficient. I was never pressured and every objective was tailored to our needs. Finding people that you would trust in your house alone is tough these days. Many services providers charge exorbitant fees, bury costs, hide bills, and don't take pride in their work. Pete and the team do an exceptional job to go above and beyond and follow through. Trustworthy and honest. More importantly, when you're spending thousands of dollars on this stuff, future proofing and making sure what you do doesn't become obsolete tomorrow is really hard. Smarter Homes makes sure that what you do can be improved upon in the future, and used in the smartest, most budget friendly, most objective meeting and atheistically pleasing way. When we did our recent renovation, I called smarter homes before even my contractor. They were there doing their mappings when we were at studs. They retrofitted into tight and older areas of the house. They work with you, within your budget, in a fair and honest way. Highly recommend.

I was introduced to Smarter Homes of Austin over a decade ago by Ray Tonjes, who was building a green home for us and highly recommended Smater Homes for all our low voltage needs. We had them design a full home system for us, complete with speakers in most rooms, multiple TVs, WiFi, and hardwired internet to numerous rooms, all on a private and secure LAN and accessed through a custom designed user interface (compatible with both Apple and Android). While AV technology has improved considerably over the last decade, Smarter Homes continued to support our original system which has worked wonderfully for us over the years, with only a few upgrades needed (at our own request). While we have been very happy with the system Smarter Homes designed for us, it is really their service that sets them apart. We were hit with a power glitch this past weekend, which caused our UniFi dream machine to go into a constant “need to reboot” state. After a frustrating Saturday morning trying to get it back working on my own, I texted the owner Pete and he quickly responded with a few things for me to try. Unfortunately, those weren’t successful so I texted him again Sunday morning and he offered another potential work-around. When that didn’t work he asked “Are you around today?”, and within the hour was at our home debugging the problem. (Yes, this is on a Sunday.) Rather than give the easy answer of “you need new hardware”, he took the time to figure out how to bypass the reboot cycle, re-image our system, and get it back to its normal working condition. Now instead of looking at a depressing “need to restart” screen on the dream machine, I can listen to dreamy over the rainbow music on our system throughout our home. I can’t imagine any company (regardless of their market) who could provide higher quality and more timely service than Smarter Homes has provided to us for over 10 years. I would highly recommend them for any new low voltage home automation system you need, as well as for providing support for your existing AV system

Smarter Homes Austin handled all of the networking, automation, and AV work as part of my whole-house renovation — and they were outstanding from start to finish. They set up my entire wired and Wi-Fi network, installed and configured my Unifi Dream Machine Pro router, and integrated a full Sonos system both inside and out by the pool. They also mounted and connected all my TVs seamlessly into the Sonos system. Their team went beyond audio/video — they installed and programmed my indoor and outdoor automated PowerShades and matched them with manual shades throughout the rest of the house for a clean, consistent look. They also set up my security and camera systems, which are absolutely state-of-the-art and give me complete peace of mind.
