I inherited an older vehicle from a deceased relative that had been sitting for the better part of 3-years. I assumed it needed a lot of work so I called The Car Doctor. Alex not only got my car running like new, he told me that some of the work (that I thought it needed and actually TOLD HIM it needed) wasn't necessary. He also advised me on some repairs that would be good to do while certain parts of the car were disassembled saving me even more money. I can't recommend Alex and The Car Doctor enough. You know that feeling when you find a good dentist or good lawyer...that is exactly how I feel about Alex and The Car Doctor. The new place in Martinez is great with a lot of parking. Alex and Steve did a fantastic job on all three of my trucks and my Subaru. I called him he scheduled me a time to come in that same day and fix my problem in under 45 minutes. His prices are extremely competitive and he's a family man with great skill and personality. He has been our family mechanic for all of our vehicles for years and I recommend any and all people to come give him your business and you will not be disappointed. If I could give him more than five stars I would because this is the place to go

Alex and his crew are the absolute best. I lived in Oakland, but still travelled to The Car Doctor for all my car needs. The shop knew my car by name and I felt like part of the family there. They have the BEST prices and the most caring team. They have helped me with immediate/urgent problems, and they’ve also helped me with less critical cosmetic issues on my truck. And of course they were always there for regular oil changes and new tires when the time came. I recently moved and leaving Alex was one of the saddest parts of the process. I have yet to find a mechanic as intuitive, available, reasonably-priced, and genuinely caring as Alex and his men. Particularly as a woman, it is difficult to find respect from mechanics and shops that won’t take advantage of me. Alex is the exact opposite of that; he is transparent and respectful. I wish I could tell everyone with a car to go to The Car Doctor for their vehicle maintenance. They are truly the best over there 😊

Really good experience here. Alex charged over $1000 less than Berkeley garages for a Honda CRV A/C compressor replacement (which comes with a 2 yr warranty) + new brake pads. He also got us in the day after we called and finished within a few hours. I'll definitely be returning.

I almost don't want to tell people about this guy because he's so great but many people may be turned off by the condition of the property. He's one of these Geniuses that doesn't have a neat workspace. It looks like a junkyard from the outside but this guy knows his cars and is honest to boot. You just may have to wait a while for him to get around to your car but if it's something simple he'll work on it right away. He takes credit cards and debit cards and he's just an all-around nice guy.

My daughter needed her brakes to be replaced. Called a few places but finally spoke to Alex at Car Doctor and he gave me a sweet price. Sent me daughter in dropped it off. She gets a call from Alex saying her vehicle is ready expeditiously. He replaced her back brakes and told her front brakes were good. Dropped the price of course. What was so amazing in such a dog eat dog world was that he was honest also vehicle is braking as it should. This place has integrity when very few shops don’t. I showed him a Bill My mom has from Hagen's, for one cracked axle.. & Alex was very angry when I showed him the receipt.. He was so mad at the price & the part that they used, the axle. I came in for a pre-purchase inspection and overall had a really good experience. Alex was helpful, knowledgeable, and gave solid, straightforward advice without any pressure or upselling. He took the time to explain what he found and answered all my questions clearly. I’ll be honest — the shop itself was pretty chaotic and cluttered, and it looks like Alex might be doing everything on his own. That man could definitely use an assistant and a cleanup crew 😅. That said, it didn’t take away from the quality of the work or the honesty of the inspection. Would do business with him again.
