Update: charged 50 for oil changes and then most recently 90. New go to place for service. Jim was amazingly nice and humble. Only $30 for my oil change whereas other places have charged $50.

I made the mistake of purchasing a used 1999 van off craigslist without getting it check out first. Needless to say, there were plenty of issues (see title jumping, curbstoning). Once I learned more about the scam and the check engine light flicked on (P0101), I took the van into Arroyo Auto Center in May 2018 to get an initial diagnosis to see how bad the damage was. I wasn't sure whether or not to dump the van. Jim convinced me the van had many good parts and to get the repairs done. I was a bit skeptical, fearing there would be many more undiagnosed repairs, but I agreed. The first visit, Jim and Mike fixed an oil leak and replaced the radiator. I drove it around for a while and the check engine light reappeared. I took it in for a second time and they diagnosed and fixed a vacuum leak. I drove it around some more and I get another check engine (P1780). Jim and Mike diagnose a broken PCV valve and kindly fix it for free! A few more trips and I get another check engine light (P0401) which during my 4th visit to Arroyo Auto Center Jim and Mike diagnose as an EGR valve and feedback sensor. Why is it that Arroyo Auto Center gets a 5-star review? I've now driven over 1,500 miles without seeing another check engine light! While I wish they could have diagnosed all of the problems during my first visit, I understand that isn't realistic. Throughout my 4 visits, Jim and Mike were incredibly professional, quick, honest, and trustworthy. Yes, the prices are a bit expensive here, but it's well worth it to know that your car is being taken good care of. If they can revive my lemon, they can fix your car too!

Super fast and high quality help - I got my tire low and they were extremely helpful with the tire replacement (though it could be repaired tire itself was not good so I decided to change it completely). I need to take my Camry in for a smog check and annual service. I am online to see how the place is doing before calling tomorrow. I really don't want to do business with anybody but Jim and Mike. Jim is nothing but honest, humble, and hard working. They have gone out of their way for me more times than I can count. The handful of negative reviews really surprises me. If misunderstandings occur, I have to think something cultural is happening. We all have to be open to each other. Put yourself in this shop's hands and you won't regret it.

Jim treated me like friend from the minute I walked in the door. I had an issue with the undercarriage of my car. I stopped by on a busy holiday weekend and he took care of me right away. I've had my share of disinterested mechanics over the years but Jim is not that guy. I wish I lived near Pasadena, I would look no further to have my vehicles cared for by Jim.

Beware: Not trustworthy, Not honest Our 21-yr. old son was conned that if he left his car there, they would give him $500 discount to do the work(repairs). Mike and the other owner also told him that he cannot drive the car or it will damage it further (also not true) but this was a trick to keep the car there and have them do the repairs. They knew our son was not knowledgeable and they took advantage of that. Unfortunately our son trusted them. He believed they would give him the $500 discount so when he received the $3200 from the insurance company our son gave them all of it in cash. After almost one or two weeks they called and said his car was ready but when our son came home he said,”They did not do the body work at all.” My husband saw them the very next morning but the owners refused to give us the $1800+ that they kept toward the body repair. They said,”just bring back the car and we’ll finish it,” but, at this point we do not trust them at all for anything. They gave us the car telling us it was ALL READY thinking we would not notice the body work wasn’t done. Also, when they returned the car, there were other problems that our car did not have prior and we believe they created so it will make our son come back for more repairs. When my husband brought this to their attention, Mike said,”It’s drivable so it’s not a problem.” But, we didn’t have a problem with the steering wheel before. We also brought the car to Pep Boys and the Manager made a comment that the light in the back usually lasts for 20-years so he was very surprised that light is out. It wasn’t out when we brought the car to Arroyo Auto Center. We believe they just disconnected it so again more work for them to charge our son. We had to get the Bureau of Automotive Repair and the Better Business Bureau involved and we also had our attorney write them a letter. The owners refuse to give our money back for work they did not complete. We will take them to court and ask for damages plus court costs to recover our money back. They don’t realize this will cost them more than the $1800 they are holding from us. They cannot force us to do business with them but this is what they are doing by holding on to our money. We have the right to take our business anywhere we want. Our son’s biggest mistake is giving them all the cash up front not knowing that he should inspect it before paying them. Again they tricked him by telling him they will give him a discount which they never did. Lastly, they told BAR they will take us to court. For what?? I am shocked that this is how they are running their business. There are plenty of other honest car repair shops in Pasadena so buyer beware and do not pay them upfront for any repairs until all of the work has been completed and you inspect it. Also, if something else comes up wrong that wasn’t there before, be suspicious, it's another trick to make a customer come back.

He has taken great care of me, my family and the vehicles we drive for the past few years. Jim is a great business owner. He really cares about his customers and will do what it takes to see his customers satisfied. He did some extra work on my car knowing it could be a warranty issue and that I'd take it back to the dealer for those repairs, but he helped me ID the problem without charging me.

He told me I had 10% of my breaks left and my situation was dire. Found this hard to believe, since my breaks felt fine and did not squeak. Took my car to Hrant’s instead, and they said I have 35% left. I never know if I get lied to by mechanics, because they assume I don’t know anything about cars. I don’t. But, I am a smart shopper and I always get a second opinion. If you take your car here, I suggest you get a second opinion too!

I went in for a maintenance check, and while the price was reasonable, the professionalism was the worst I’ve ever encountered at any mechanic shop. I did not receive a detailed receipt of the services performed on my car, which I needed to justify the expenses for my work. When I explicitly asked for this, the person in charge made the excuse that they didn’t have a computer and flat-out refused to even write the list by hand on a piece of paper.

I don’t trust just anyone with this Lotus Elise, only a hand-picked select few mechanics actually ever worked on it in my 14 years of this car’s ownership, but Yazouri definitely has proven himself to have the expertise and the passion to take it on. An engineering degree doesn’t hurt either, to balance mechanic experience with knowledge of physics and machinery!!

Ive been coming to Jim and Mike for a few years now since I first moved to LA! I came with some recurrent coolant issues, and they were transparent about the costs and the process. I’ve looked for second opinions too and ultimately settled with this shop. I value their honesty and commitment to helping their customers. Up to today, I’ve had my brakes changed here, my suspension, and I always get my oil changed here now. If I need my tire plugged or fixed, they always help with that as well. I’m really happy with their services. I’ll always keep returning!

Steve is the most insufferable person I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. The sheer arrogance and disrespect is honestly sad and embarrassing. Grown man acting like a spoiled child in public behind the name of Arroyo Auto. Fire him and I’ll remove this review and leave a 5 star just for that. Absolutely disgraceful…
