Incompetent & patronizing. I called ahead about a smog check and got a quote, describing my vehicle. When I showed up he took one look at me and my truck and suddenly the price went up 80%. He kept me waiting (but don't go back to your car, you'll slip and fall) then told me how to drive around the block. He couldn't figure out how to start the truck (it's a Ford, starts like any other car) or open the window (it's a slider, but the handle is very easy to find & use). After 35 minutes of running the vehicle with their equipment in it, he said his ODB2 machine couldn't access the RPM info and I needed to go to another shop. (I went to another shop and was told I needed to drive it for a while because it's been too soon since my last jump start). This place was a complete waste of time and frustration.

As always, for us, the best place to get the biennial smog test for both of our cars. Peter and Sunny are friendly, fast and efficient. In and out in about 20 mins since we're usually the first ones to arrive when they open at 9am. We usually then head to the local AAA office on 5th Street to get our registration stickers also.

Central Auto Repair is beyond incredible and very professional! Always very accommodating, I have been to 3 smog tests fail, 2 mechanics reject the CAP program , and Sonny of Central auto made my life sunnier and brighter. I was telling him to replace my cat conv but wants to do more tests (he said no problem with my catalytic) to my car 1995 BMW 3series. Sonny saved me a lot $ & his mechanics there always have a 😊 smile on their face. Sonny also charged me less than anybody, very reasonable. I highly recommend this place even if you live in SF or anywhere in the Bay Area it’s really well worth it.

I went in for a smog test. Unfortunately the test couldn’t be performed as I was informed that I needed a new clutch. I had no idea. $1,200+ the clutch was replaced and my car passed the smog. I am grateful for that and have made peace with the cost. They had my car for more than 2 days and got it right. I have to get used to the new clutch as my car is riding like a bronco with the new clutch. My fault♥️💙

HONEST, EXCELLENT SERVICE, GREAT COMMUNICATION. I got my front & rear break pads installed here, and they did an excellent job, I was completely satisfied. I had a very positive experience. Came in with a check engine light. My car needed a new turbo to pass smog. I've done other work on my car myself but got a reasonable rate here for this repair. My plate was full with other projects. They got the work done faster than I expected and the price didn't exceed the original estimate, which I appreciate. It's a small shop that does good work. They get busy, so it may be hard to get in. But once you're in, they take very good care of your car. I would definitely come back here again.
