I bought an old car (Honda Accord ‘98) that requires TLC. My first experience with City Automotive was when I brought it to Chang to inspect. He graciously took the time to let me know what to expect with “future” repairs; but not once did he ever try selling me on a repair or service but rather asked me to weigh the costs of future repairs against the value of the car when these repairs become inevitable, i.e. I have oil leak eating away at a hose. I am fairly ignorant when it comes to car repairs and instead of taking advantage of this obvious fact, he educated me on how to maintain the car until repairs would eventually cost more than the value of the car. The highest compliment I can give is this—it was the first time my wallet has ever truly felt safe in an auto shop and where the care of the car took priority. I have taken my car in multiple times since for oil changes and maintenance. Chang’s professionalism, patience, and car care is unwavering. As long as I have residence in this area, he will be my mechanic.

If you want an honest mechanic who charges fair prices and will not sell you anything you don't need, this is the place. You can drop in (though appointment is always better) and your car will be repaired correctly at a fair price.

I've been going here ever since I started driving, and ive taken every car here. Chang is the most honest person I've ever met, and it extends to how he is as a business owner and a mechanic as well. He'll never try and upsell you, and he is very transparent about what needs to be done and how urgent things are. He genuinely cares about his customers, not just their cars and how much revenue each customer will generate. Stand up guy, 100%.

About 10 months ago, I bought 2013 Subaru Outback from City Automotive. Recently, on the highway 880 southbound, from this car’s engine I’ve seen a lot of smoke. I towed to a mechanic. He said I should replace the engine. He charged me $4500 to fix. I called Chang and the previous owner, but they didn’t pick up my calls at all. They might know about the bad engine before they sold to me.

After living in the Bay area for 4 years I finally found my mechanic! Chang is awesome! Honest, friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced. Make sure you call in the morning time and schedule an appointment with him. I do not suggest walking in because he is pretty busy. I needed to get one of the wheel bearing on my Toyota Camry replaced. He diagnosed the problem and was able to order the parts in just 3 days. My car was fixed in just 2.5 hours. I'm extremely satisfied and will definitely recommend coming here. 👍

I've done oil changes at this place several times. I also got my tire pressure sensor fixed and tire rotation service as well. Service is excellent and price is much better compared to other places. Owner is friendly and honest. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place that is reliable with a good price range. Make sure to book an appointment.
