Fantastic customer service. Worked with Duke, who could not have been any nicer. Was extremely impressed with the honesty of this shop. We were referred thinking we needed a rebuilt transmission. They could easily have diagnosed as such, and charged us a few thousand dollars. Only needed flushing, and new fluid and filter. Answered prayer!

My first experience with Cottman Transmission was exceptional. I was having a few mysterious transmission concerns, or what I thought they were. I am grateful to my friend for the referral! I called in and explained my concerns, I was advised to drop my van off and it would be throughly looked over and I would be called with update. Just as promised, my van was checked out and to my relief, there were no issues with my transmission at all!! I was treated with respect and kindness. Efficient and trustworthy! TWICE in the past few years I have brought in a vehicle with obvious problems and the warning light activated. Both times they performed a thorough inspection,, only to tell me there was no problem with the transmission. They even diagnosed what the problem is (a recall that only the dealer could repair) and wrote down the number so the dealer wouldn’t need to look it up. I expected a charge for their time and the inspection, but they charged me NOTHING either time! A dishonest mechanic could have replaced the entire transmission! I highly recommend Cottman!

Worst place ever. This place is a scam charged me 3,000 dollars to telm me they rebuild my transmission yet to break down 16 min after leaving there shop . And I paid to have another shop take it apart long story short they didn't reolac3 anything changed my fluid and charged me 3 grand . Ultimately they got sued and had to pay me my money . But I don't want anyone else to have to go through what we did

I would not recommend them. They quoted me one price over the phone then, added more than $2,000 to that price after I dropped the vehicle off. When I said no and that I would take it somewhere else, they still charged me hundreds of dollars and didn’t give me all my parts back (I didn’t know that till the other transmission shop told me).

Long story short, find someone you can trust is going to be fair and honest, and that’s what you will get at Cottmans. For context, I broke down on the way home from Charlotte. I towed my truck to the closest dealership service center and after their “diagnosis” I was quoted a steep figure for a full transmission replacement. I wasn’t in a position to do that, so I arranged for the truck to be towed home for a second opinion from Ron at Cottman Transmission. After Cottmans diagnosis, it turns out my transmission was actually fine and the fix was a fraction of the cost the dealership was going to charge me (to not even fix the problem). Cottmans got me back on the road in a few days and explained everything in detail. I will be back with any transmission problems or questions in the future

Carried my truck in to diagnose a scraping noise on acceleration. They kept my truck a day and a half. Called me and said the noise was coming from the transmission and it would be $4,800 to rebuild it. I went to another transmission shop for a second opinion. 45 minutes later my truck was fixed. It turned out to be a 4wheel drive hub. The guy said he felt bad for charging me $100. Don’t trust them.

Great experience. It took awhile to get a new transmission installed, however I was told from very beginning about the time frame and actually received my car back earlier than promised. Dealing with Cottmans was very easy. They were very professional and had excellent customer service. Amazing service!! I was having problems with my truck’s transmission/torque converter, I spoke with the guys at Cottman and they told me to bring the truck in. Brought it to them Tuesday, they called and explained everything that needed to be done promptly and told me they could get it done this week. Fully rebuilt the trans and my truck was done by Friday!! They also replaced my rear main seal and only charged for the part itself … no labor! Wow is all I can say. Id recommend this company to anyone!

I have a 2018 Ford F150 with well documented transmission issues : hard shifts, delays, etc. The truck only has 75k miles and it's had issues almost it's entire life. At 50k miles, still under warranty, the dealer merely reset the learn mode. Now that the truck is out of warranty and having more serious problems - as in, we are fearful of even driving it - the dealer has an EIGHT week service backup!! Good grief !! So we took the truck to Cotterman for a 3rd party review. They were able to diagnose it in one day and determined the transmission needs a rebuild, at a cost of $6k. There was no charge for the diagnosis and they consulted us on "what happens if....". Given that the truck has numerous other issues (like cam phaser rattle, etc., etc.), we have decided to give up on it - and Ford - and plan to get rid of it. Thank you to Cotterman for the consultation.

3 transmissions in less than 3 months. 5 weeks to fix it everytime. Need I say any more. We had priority to have this last transmission fixed. It's been 24 days and still no car. They give us a day it will be ready and say they will call but don't. We have had the car 3 months and have driven it 3 weeks Cottman's has had our car longer than we have, maybe they need to pat the loan. Update: 2 weeks after the third transmission I find that it is now leaking transmission fluid. Large puddle under car everytime the car sits for awhile. They ate goingvto Repair it again thus week. Very sad.

I brought my car in for them to check it out, I was hearing a grinding sound from my transmission (Toyota). They said it was worn bearings and would continue to get worse. I had them replace the transmission, which cost $4500. I dropped it off on a Monday, and I got it back on a Thursday. It is running great! Larry is the manager, and Ron is the owner, and they explained everything. I am very happy with the work and having saved my car. Thanks for the great work, Ron!

I worked out the logistics to drop my car off on a Thursday morning. I waited ALL DAY for a phone call that NEVER CAME! I finally called them at 4:30 because I knew they closed at 5pm and I needed my car to get back home to Riegelwood. I was then told that they got busy and wouldn't have a chance to look at my car until the following morning. This was not acceptable because as I said.. and as I had told him... I needed my car to get back home to Riegelwood. I told him that I would need to pick up my car but could not get there until 5:30 so I asked him to leave my key, we discussed where he would leave the key and hung up. I got there at 5:30 pm to find that not only had he locked up and left and NOT LEFT MY KEY as he said he would, but my car had also been hit while sitting ALL DAY in that parking lot for NO REASON!!! - and now I was stranded in Wilmington (in the middle of a monsoon) with no way to get back home. I ended up having to pay $50 for an UBER! ( I should add that as a single mom who is obviously now having car troubles... I did not have $50 to throw away because of someone else's incompetence) ... and now I have to do it all again in the morning to retrieve my now cosmetically damaged vehicle! I am beyond pissed! This is - without a doubt - the most irresponsible, inconsiderate and just.. horrible experience I have ever had when dealing with any kind of supposed professional! I am disappointed and downright disgusted and would NEVER recommend these people to anyone! **UPDATE** I went in the following morning to get my car and would you believe that jerk didn't even apologize to me... not a word.. nothing!! I understand that maybe you don't care about losing a customer, but how about basic human decency?!?! You have not only displayed a lack of professionalism but you've also show a complete lack of human decency. You might consider the fact that it's good business practice to update your customers midday if you are running behind so that they can make arrangements to either retrieve their vehicles or work out transportation - you know... like 90% of the other shops would have done! You should have reimbursed me the $50 I had to pay for an UBER because of your incompetence!

I had a terrible experience with Cottam Transmission. Their customer service was awful — communication was a mess, and I felt completely disrespected throughout the entire process. To make matters worse, they didn’t even fix the problem with my car. They claimed the battery was dead, but it wasn’t. The real issue? They didn’t press the brake pedal when trying to start it — a basic oversight. This level of carelessness is unacceptable. I would never bring my car here again, and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
