Sub par customer service. Tried to purchase a dash panel from them which was clearly listed on the website for $149.00. When I asked about purchasing the vendor states the only way he can sell me one is to buy a gauge package which would raise the price to nearly $1200. When I asked about this the vendor became extremely defensive stating I wanted to steal information from them when in fact I just want a nice dash panel for my second gen Camaro. I can only imagine what customer service is like after I’ve purchased something. In response to your reply, I actually would like to purchase something from you. As I’ve stated by email multiple times I would also purchase the auto meter gauge panel from you and you still ignored that. You have found every excuse to tell me to refuse allowing a customer to buy a part you offer. Hence the bad review. If you want me to change it change your website to reflect what you’re actually selling or sell me a dash panel. I’ve attached the sales add from the vendor website and some of the email where the vendor accuses me of wanting to steal information from him.

My experience with Custom Works Performance in Durham, CA was deeply disappointing and, frankly, quite embarrassing for them. I needed a custom bezel for a set of gauges for my 1978 Camaro and thought this vendor had the perfect solution. Unfortunately, that was far from the case. After providing a detailed PDF with my Speedhut order, Custom Works Performance sent an invoice totaling around $1472. My assistant quickly noticed a $100 discrepancy between their invoice and the Speedhut prices. When I called to clarify, Keith, the salesperson, was immediately defensive and dismissive, insisting the amount was correct without providing any explanation. To resolve the issue, I made a video demonstrating how the PDF linked directly to Speedhut’s discounted prices, revealing a $98 discount that Keith had overlooked. When we called back, Keith appeared quite upset and claimed he was unaware of the PDF links. He refused to adjust the invoice, citing that he purchases wholesale and couldn’t match Speedhut's discounts. It’s baffling that a business would get so worked up over $98—an amount that should be negligible for any well-run business. This is probably why small businesses always stay small. Regrettably, the situation escalated with Keith deciding not to proceed with my order, expressing frustration over what he perceived as an overly complicated purchase process. When I inquired about buying the bezel separately, he declined. I've attached screenshots of both Custom Works and Speedhut invoices and will be filing a complaint with the California BBB. It’s truly disheartening to encounter such poor customer service from a small business. I had hoped for a more professional and accommodating experience, and it's unfortunate that Custom Works Performance did not meet these expectations. RG/fc

Custom Works Performance, small and personal, detail oriented, creative solutions, a skilled mechanic and craftsman. The process of reviving my family’s Riviera back from the grave has been a slow one and I could not be happier. Keith has been a one of a kind partner in this restoration, which to be honest, was probably far more than he originally wanted to be involved with. Keith’s ability to come up with creative solutions for fitment, modernization and functionality have really impressed me. He has taken time to have hour long discussions to find a budget correct answer without sacrificing quality. I have watched him manufacture parts from scratch, adapt what we had or source parts to ensure the vision was met. As far as budget, I appreciate that Keith never let me overspend, always clearly explaining why something might seem better but there were more cost effective options of equal quality. He kept the honest scope of our project in mind and did not try to sell marked up products or let me take the project too far. So after three years of working with Custom Works Performance and Keith, I have had a very positive experience. I have, and will recommend CWP and Keith. I expected to drop off a car, receive invoices, argue over price, get pressured, be frustrated then happy it was over. Instead, at the end, it has been a great chance to work with a quality builder, skilled mechanic and quite a technical wizard(ask him about stereos). Highly Recommend.
