I came to East Side Auto to repair a rear spring on my VW that I knew was broken. Instead of listening to me, Syed (boss/manager: 2/5 stars) said that only the rear struts needed to be done. It was only after the work had started that Edwin (one of the mechanics and a very nice gentleman: 5/5 stars) noticed that the spring was in fact broken. It was then added to the estimate/to do list (which was frustrating). To be fair, the struts did need replacement as well but I did not appreciate Syed ignoring my input. Overall, the work was reasonably priced but Syed also refused to show me the cost of the parts they purchased to redo my rear struts/spring. I found this shady and unprofessional as I would like to know what I am paying for. I understand there is markup, but they should be more transparent. Additionally, when I came to pick up the vehicle I found that the rear seat/seatbelts had been improperly reinstalled and my wheel lock had been misplaced. They fixed it free of charge and found the lock but be warned: GIVE YOUR VEHICLE A GOOD LOOK OVER BEFORE LEAVING.

DO NOT GO HERE. As the other two reviews say, THEY ARE CROOKS. Same exact experience here in taking my car in for an inspection. They put it up on the lift and gave me some BS about the entire rack and pinion steering mechanism being shot and leaking and also needing to replace right and left tie rods. About $2,000 worth of work. The same number as the woman reports. I guess that is there go to number. After I said no, it went to $1,500. To add insult to injury, as I was walking out, they gave me a lecture on how they are concerned with my safety. Good grief. Subsequently, I took it to my car dealing and he told me that in his 20+ years he has never had to replace anything like that on this model car. It was fine and they did not recommend any work. Does NYS DMV inspections inspect these shops?

Basically straight crooks. I pulled in for an inspection. They put my car up on the lift and five minutes later told me I needed $1200 in repairs before I'd pass inspection. I had them print their estimate up and took it to another station (Auto Care East). My car passed inspection there with NO work. The reputable station couldn't even read the print out - it indicated I needed over $500 in parts. Especially if you're naive avoid this place - they made a big show of bringing me under the car and showing me who knows what - all fake. Bring your car to Anthony Zacharias at Auto Care East a few blocks away instead (243 East 94th). I discovered them the same day - they are honest and l felt I could trust them within the first few minutes and I've never felt that way in Manhattan before - (I usually get my car serviced in Vermont and I live on 90th Street)!

I agree with the last review...These guys are a bunch of crooks. I think they may have changed ownership or management as I used to take my car here for inspection. I took my car in yesterday and did not recognize any of the people working there. They took my car in, immediately put it on the lift and said my differential was leaking and that I needed new brake pads and rotors. Well first of all, I just had the brakes done 2 months ago, so I knew he was full of it. Then he showed me where there was some moistness by the axle. Could have been grease etc...But he said that he would not pass me on test based on the above things. Not for nothing, I know a bit about cars, but even if differential was leaking a bit, that is no reason to fail a car for inspection. Moreover, the whole thing with the brakes was a criminal. Does the State of New York ever check on these inspection stations? At the end of the so called "inspection", he told me to get an estimate and bring back to his shop and he would do the job cheaper...What a bunch of scammers. I will never go back here.

Probably the best gas and auto service station in the whole city. Recently been there with my Accord that was troubling me since long time and the professional staff supervised under Mr. Billy and Mr. Musahid were on to the problem and cleared it like they were having 'a piece of cake'. Later got the due inspection process done and that was smooth too. Professional staff, Friendly interaction, affordable charges, quick and affective service were the impressive quality that i experienced. Highly recommended!!!!

Came here a while ago and it was a horrible experience, felt like I should warn people. Please stay away. There’s better auto shops in the Barrio with honest people. It’s really the owner . He will rip you off and lie to you about problems with your car. I should’ve gotten a second opinion but it was emergency. An employee gave me my keys and copy of receipt, looked at it and shook his head. Said how I shouldn’t have paid this much and he was sorry because this was wrong and they lose customers because the owner rips people off. :(

Not even 1 star!!!! Stay away from these scammers terrible business and owner!!!! Establishment worker gave me a price for a wheel alignment of $70 and then once the job was done the owner changed the price to $100 and told me they will not give my car back unless I pay the new price. Even his worker told him it's $70 and the owner said No it's $100 or she will not get her car back. Even the worker was disgusted with his scam robbery!!!! Then owner proceeded to say he will charge an extra $30 on top of that for any credit card charge. Stay away from this establishment!

I don't ever write reviews, but I think people should know about my experience. I didn't have a problem with them a year ago. It seemed like completely different people owned this place. Passed my inspection, and even fixed some tiny things for me like the reading lamp for free. A few months months ago, I went in to this auto shop to get my car inspected. They told me my tires were cracked and my right headlight was out. They told me a ridiculous price for their used parts and labor, and I said no. I fixed it myself for more than half the price with new parts. A month later, I returned. My car may be 21 years old, and I may be two years older than her, but I know and take care of my car. There is nothing wrong with my car and if there is, I fixed it myself. These people told me, I didn't drive it enough which is a lie. So I needed to drive it 100 more miles, BUT TO THE DMV, told them I had no brakes! How could you drive with no brakes? I didn't know this until I brought my car upstate to have it inspected because shops in the city only care about squeezing money out of you, especially if you LOOK LIKE you're young. I just LOOK young. You think I'm stupid, I know you'll crash and burn.

I do not usually write reviews, but I am hoping to help others avoid the terrible experience I had here. I have previously gotten my car inspected at this location, but now they are under new management and I would avoid them at all costs. I brought my 2020 Crosstrek in for a state inspection and was told that it would be done in 15 minutes. I was then called in and informed that my car failed the inspection due to my brakes not working. I was surprised, as my brakes were replaced about 10,000 miles ago and were not showing signs of needing replacement. David then told me they would replace my brakes and routers for $600 and then I would pass the inspection and be on my way. I was suspicious, as I knew my brakes did not need to be replaced, and informed him that I would go for a second opinion. He then became angry and belligerent, refusing to let me leave. He then held my car and me at the service for two hours, insisting I change my brakes with him and that it would be unsafe for me to leave. I informed him that I would not be doing that several times over, and that I would be getting my car inspected somewhere else. Then, once it was clear I would not be getting service done there, he finally passed my car on its inspection. That was when I knew he attempted to scam me. A few weeks later, I took my car to the dealership and they were shocked and informed me that my brakes did not need replacing. Avoid at all costs, they will attempt to scam you into unnecessary service. I will be reporting them to the NYS DMV.

Need to check this place out if you need an inspection or any mechanical work done!!! David, and his nephew took over this business 4 weeks ago, and they are terrific reliable mechanical experts who only recommend what you really need and get the job done so efficiently and professionally. Their services are outstanding including their pickup service which is super convenient and hard-to-find in the city! And price was also muuuch better than the others. Feels like I finally met a mechanic who I can trust when I have another car issue.

Went in to get my heating checked out. After the mechanics checked what was wrong, David, (the new manager), made sure I understood what the problem was and what needed to be done. Even told the mechanic, Freddy and Carlos, to show me and explain what was wrong. David was fair on the pricing and realistic on the time frame. I had a great experience and even noticed how other customers are treated. David gave respect to everyone and made sure to take his time with the customers so they understood their situation. I have recommended this place to my friends and will definitely come back if I have any other issues with my car.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Biggest scam in Manhattan. Took my sister’s car to get her AC checked as it wasn’t cooling. He told us the compressor needs to be completely changed along with condenser and hose issues then sent us an unclear video of the interior to show damage. He gave us an estimate of around $1000 of parts that needed replacing and fixed. We decided to take the car to the dealership to get a second opinion. Got in the car and the air filter was taken out completely. We had to go back and ask them to put it back in. When we took the car to the dealership, they ran all kinds of tests and there was nothing wrong with the compressor. No leaks or anything. All they had to do was add freon and the AC was perfectly cooling again. In fact, they said that the video he sent us was not even from our car. This man is clearly running a business that takes advantage of people who don’t know much about cars and profiting out of them.

Wow, I didn’t expect this level of service as a new customer. David and Samir were patient and kind throughout the entire process. I had seen both older and newer reviews but decided to give this place a try—after all, how bad could it be just for an inspection? Plus, it’s not far from my apartment.
