Went in for an inspection. Gave me an estimate for $224 telling me I needed new wipers and bulbs replaced. I left. Went to another place, passed inspection and didn't need wipers or bulbs. This place is a scam. Stay away.

I made an appointment here for an inspection-- New to owning a car in NY, so I was a bit lost. They told me it would be $37 (which I realize now is the fee regulated by the State of New York, so that's totally legit), but then told me there was also a $60 "concierge fee" on top of that. Glad someone else I called corrected me before I did this.

I went there b/c I needed a car inspection… they wanted $170 to see what was wrong… plus to fix it and still another 37 for the inspection… I went to another spot and they fix it with a fuse and only charged me for the inspection….

The owner is a great example of what customer service should be, which is a unicorn in the auto-repair industry these days. I have been a customer since 2020 and have never been disappointed. I tried a lot of auto shops around the Bronx area and 96autorepair continues to be the best. 5/5!!

Abraham was excellent & highly recommend if you break down in nyc. My belt broke & fixed it in few hours. Had to wait for belt to get delivered. The mechanic was awesome & don’t forget Ceaser upstairs in rental place who made the call. 5 star place honest & just job well done. !!!!!

My Subaru transmission gave out on a Friday after work. They towed it here and with all my hope, they succeeded. I would definitely recommend 96 Auto Repair because they take great care of my car. If you're looking for an affordable mechanic, this is the place to go!

I, like the previous review, made an appointment for an auto inspection. Upon returning to get my car, they explained to me that my right day running light was not working and I would need them to repair it. The wipers were old and they also needed to be replaced. All in all, the $37 bill turned into $475. They didn't have the part, it was Friday. They were planning to order the part, and it would arrive on Monday or Tuesday. They gave me the inspection in the meantime. Since I was planning to go away for the weekend and they told me I also needed an oil change, I decided to go to another place that was available to do the oil change. Upon the guy inspecting the wipers, he replaced them for a quarter of the cost they quoted me. When he checked the day running headlight it was not out. The wire connecting it was loose and all he had to do was reconnect it, which he did, and did not charge me for. When I called 96autorepair back, to get a refund, since I prepaid for the services, they lied and said they had already performed the services and would not give me a refund. The mechanic changed his story 3 times once the manager got involved. The manager stated that if I were to present a receipt for the services rendered he would give me a refund. Once I submitted the receipts he changed his story and said he would not give me a refund. Frauds. Do not use this mechanic. Even if they had performed the services, it was 3x's the costs even for an oil change. The entire establishment has a culture of telling lies.

Excellent car repair shop to get your car checked or serviced for common issues. Two cars I own are brought in regularly for oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad changes, brake disc replacements, water pump replacements, etc. Every time I come, everyone is courteous and knowledgeable. Regular service maintenance and repair/replacement work is usually done within a day or two and the prices are reasonable. The service is always excellent, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

My father picked up a flat this morning and we had already put a spare on when bringing the flat in to see if this place could repair it. It was the closest shop. We arrived at 8AM and were able to track down the mechanic who appears to share space with a gas station and a car rental business. The guy was incredibly rude, literally commanding us to wait outside as if we were misbehaved dogs: “Outside!” with a finger pointed toward the door while making direct eye contact. Don’t give this guy your business. My father was able to find a normal shop just outside of town.

I would highly not recommend this place. They overcharge you completely!! I came because of a flat tire and they quoted me $35 to fix it. Sure why not. After waiting an hour for their mechanic to show up, they finally take my car. Minutes later they come back and tell me my tire can’t be fixed. Said I’ll need to put the spare on and buy a new one. Tell me how they tell me it costs $50 to put A SPARE I already own on my car. When he saw I wasn’t having it he then charged me $35 for the spare installment. I still believe that’s way too expensive. Why does it cost more or the same price to fix the tire? I spoke to the owner.. he was rambling a bunch of nonsense about $100 an hour for labor which was irrelevant to a 10 min fix. All and all I say this to warn you all + women to not go to this space to get mechanic help in a jiffy. I wholeheartedly believe they overcharged me because I’m a woman. AVOID THIS BUSINESS

I came in for an oil change and an inspection, and needed to replace my front brakes. I suspected the front brakes issue - it was a long time coming. The team gave me a great, competitive quote, and quickly as well! They were very communicative and worked fast, getting everything done in the timing I needed them to work with. Paying for car repairs is never fun, but you’re in great hands with this team. Will definitely be going back!

I decided to give this shop a try, since it’s just steps away from my home. Rubio did an excellent job diagnosing my car and discussing the repairs with me. He even lifted my car so we could get under it to see the issues. It’s a small shop so you get personal attention and they’re easy to follow up with afterwards. Great option for an upper west side auto shop.

I was in a hurry and, against my better judgement, decided to do my NY State inspection here, hoping it would go well. I did not see all these reviews until after my horrible experience! And, what do you know?! I too was sold the "you need new windshield wipers and bulbs" routine. I knew something was wrong when they said, "You need new wipers," because they are working fine. They also tried to say my tires were old (they are a year old and were rotated last week). When I stood my ground about the tires, the mechanic named Rubio moved on to some other "problem." They came up with all these problems but would not be specific as to what exactly. EX: "You have a problem with steering." "What in particular?" I asked. They would not say. I passed my emissions test, but they failed me on the safety inspection, as I would not allow them to do the work at an overcharged rate. **AND, they would not provide my "rejection" sticker out of spite (against the law), which buys me time to make an appointment with my mechanic to get these "issues" looked at.** They removed my old inspection sticker and left me without one. (Again, the rejection sticker is important, as it shows you tried to get the car inspected and you are working on it.) When I asked them why they would not provide one and for more information from them about their ability to complete the job, they did not provide their inspection name or license numbers! THIS IS A CLASSIC SCAM. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Also: "To report a New York State car inspector, you'll need to file a Vehicle Safety Complaint Report (VS-35) with the NY DMV Consumer & Facilities Services Complaint Unit. You can find the form on the NY DMV website and submit it with any supporting documents."

Do not go there for inspection. My car is almost 3 years old. I had it completed maintenance 3 months ago. I just needed an annual inspection done. I left my car there. They called in 20 minutes and said several things needed repair or filled up, which would cost me $165. I said my car was still under warranty and I would take it to the dealer for whatever he suggested and I only wanted inspection. When I went back to this place to pick up my car, and they let me see the “engine oil low” sign on my dashboard. I said I got it but thought they must have emptied it. I was mad but did not have evidence to argue, and I just wanted to get out of there. I paid them $37 inspection fee and drove away. After driving away for a block, I checked the computer system in the car again, and it showed nothing wrong! The engine oil was okay. The tires were fine! They tried to rip me off. I will never go there for inspection again.

We went there for an inspection two years in a row, and after both times, they said numerous things were wrong with the vehicle and needed replaced for hundreds of dollars, despite our car having been in good working condition. For example, even though our wipers were only a few months old, they insisted that we needed new wipers and then try to charge us about $40 for the wipers and then about $30 in labor for something that takes me all of five minutes to do on my own. I felt obligated to agree to their surcharges because I wanted my car to be approved. Save yourself the time and the headache and avoid the shop at all costs!!!
