My friend's vehicle broke down in Fayetteville last Thursday on his way to meet me at Carolina Beach. I drove up to give him a hand but between the two of us we could only determine that the spark plugs were not getting any fire, but we could not find the source. After consulting with one of his mechanic friends it was determined that it was likely a problem with the crank sensor. We had called multiple repair shops earlier that day but all were booked for at least a week. One shop said they could work on it and promised to send a tow truck...but it never came. It was getting late in the day when we stopped at O'Reilly's, hoping to get a scan tool. They don't loan those out we learned. My friend asked the clerk for the name of a nearby trusted mechanic and he quickly gave us the name Dave Baker, the owner of Fayetteville Auto Service. It was 5:05PM so we quickly drove down the street and caught Dave as he was leaving. We explained our situation to Dave and how we were in a real bind. Dave told us that his schedule was really full but that if we would leave the car in front of his shop, he would try his best to get to it. My friend was not comfortable leaving his car out in the open and really wanted it in a secured lot (it's Fayetteville after all). We returned to where my friend's car had broken down, to mull over our options. We were there maybe 5 minutes when Dave drove up with a scan tool. He said "It's the least I can do." After hooking up the scan tool and watching the tach, he agreed that it was a problem with the crank sensor. Dave had to be somewhere so he couldn't stay long, but we could tell he was mulling over our options, especially given that my friend wanted his car in a secured lot. In just a minute Dave came up with a solution for a secured lot and had a tow truck on the way. Once we saw that the car was secured, we headed back to Carolina Beach. The very next day Dave called to say that he had found the problem and that the car was ready. He found that a wire to the crank sensor had become chafed and was shorting out. It is so hard to find repair shops that really care about folks and literally go out of their way to help. Fayetteville Auto Service is one of those shops. Dave proved to be not only a great mechanic and true professional, but he also proved that he is a great human being. Thank you Dave for all that you did to help us!

I went in with quite a few things that needed taken care of, and they handled everything with no complications, and even gave me a military discount. Very professional and upfront when talking logistics and finance. 5/5!! I took a few cards to hand out to friends and family, because this place is definitely a gem when it comes to auto care in Fayetteville!!

Very professional, courteous, and honest people. Also, easy to work with & charge pretty reasonable costs. My car had a defective alternator and a worn out timing belt. They did an awesome job replacing both in a timely manner, and they only charged me costs for replacing the alternator....

Had a coolant leak in my water pump two days before going on vacation. Towed my car to this shop on a Wednesday night and picked it up Thursday after work. Drove it up north Friday with zero issues. Quick and reliable service. Highly recommend.

This is a small mom and pop buisness and they have amazing prices! They are also extremely nice. They were able to see my car the morning after it broke down (when every other place was going to make me wait for at least 3 days) and get it fixed very quick for a super awesome price! I will definitely recommend them, go to them you won't be disappointed. PS. My car is running better now than when I first got it

Mr. Dave always come through with great prices and great service. Dropped off Monday picked up Tuesday. People if you need a mechanic this is your guy. His wife is always happy and friendly. This is where we will be bringing all of our vehicles even recommended him to our family and friends. I think he does everything except tire stuff..rotation and allignments and balancing. I could be wrong you can always call or message he normally messages back within a few minutes.

My recent encounter with Fayetteville Auto Service has left me completely dissatisfied. I chose to visit this shop after experiencing power steering issues with my car in hopes of getting a professional diagnosis and effective repair. Unfortunately, this was not the service that I ended up receiving. As a result of the obviously rushed diagnosis by Fayetteville Auto’s mechanic(s), I was informed that a bad clamp was the root cause of the power steering issues. I followed their recommendation and paid for the replacement of the clamp, along with having the power steering fluid replaced. I left the shop believing that my car's troubles were behind me.However, my relief was short-lived. The very next day, I found myself facing the same power steering problems once again. I immediately reached out to the shop to express my frustration and seek a proper resolution. I hoped that they would be committed to addressing the issue, especially given the payment I had made for the initial repair. To my astonishment, the person I spoke with (Dave) seemed indifferent to my concerns. Dave’s response was both dismissive and unhelpful. I was told to temporarily resolve the issue by adding power steering fluid myself since I have a leak that they failed to fix and was advised to return next week after their vacation for a more thorough diagnosis. This lack of urgency and professionalism was astonishing. As a customer, I had expected Fayetteville to stand by their work and uphold their commitment to providing quality service. Unfortunately, my experience has revealed a lack of integrity and accountability on their part. I am left with an unresolved problem, additional expenses, and the need to seek a reliable auto shop that values its customers. In conclusion, my experience with Fayetteville Auto has been nothing short of disappointing. I strongly advise others to reconsider entrusting their vehicles to this establishment. The lack of effectiveness, accountability, and professionalism exhibited during my encounter is a stark warning sign of the subpar service one can expect at this shop.

Doesn't show up for work or keep appointments. If "he" can't be trusted to keep his word, he can't be trusted to be honest with any repairs. Update: Makes excuses by saying we should have called first, but we did, multiple times, but it's difficult to answer your work phone when you're not at work.

I’ve lived in Fayetteville for over 40 years and I have never been to this shop before…..I will not take my cars anywhere else from now on. If you want good, honest, fairly priced work, this is your shop. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, and they do what they say they will do. Hands down, best auto repair shop in town.

Fayetteville auto service. On April 26, 2025, a Saturday, while we were traveling from Kentucky to Fayetteville, NC the check engine light came on in our 2000 Lincoln LS and the vehicle began to shake intermittently as vehicles do when they have a misfire. We had commitments to family and friends on Sunday as well as Monday morning, so we limped around and met those. At noon on Monday, having read positive reviews about Fayetteville Auto Service, we visited their shop. We expected they would tell us they could work on the vehicle sometime during the next couple of days. It is sometimes hard to get someone to work on an older vehicle. BUT, they said they would work us in, diagnose the problem and repair it if possible. It was possible! The ignition coil on the number one cylinder had to be replaced. Within two hours we were back on the road. Very professional. Reasonable prices. We highly recommend these people.

Took my car here back in august because it wouldn’t start. I got it back about 2/3 days later . I wasn’t told someone took off the air breather and broke the hose and tried to tape it up, so oil was blowing out the end of the tube. Now I need a new engine for my car because I wasn’t aware it had a leak .

I’ve been a repeat customer since 2020 and I’m more than pleased with the service I have received. I’ve gotten my A/C fixed, battery replaced, brake pads replaced, inspections etc. If you’re looking for an honest mechanic that will give you good prices then this is the place to go.

TLDR: mechanic did not do the job correctly and took forever. Brought my 2001 Hyundai Elantra in to get my alternator and steering belts replaced as they were squeeking and slipping, this took nearly four and a half hours to get done. when I originally pulled out everything was fine till the next morning where the belts began to squeak again I called and was told to give them a week and quote "I torqued everything to factory spec". My alternator belt ended up blowing up when I was driving which then caused the radiator to overflow. I got it towed to my house and had a buddy help me with it. Turns out the altinator which doubles as the tensioner was NOT set to factory torque and caused the belt to slip then blow up. With his tools we were able to get the belt replaced in under 45 minutes with me blinding him with a light for fun. Spent roughly 200 for the original services in labor alone as I brought my own belts
