Brad Russell is seriously the best!!!! I had hit a deer a few months back...unfortunately I had a black grill that was hard to find. He was patient and persistent..eventually found my part and my baby looks brand new! He was super kind throughout the whole process and made we aware of my options. Idk what he gets paid, but it isnt enough!

Absolute nightmare of a place to work with! I will also preface this with I did not choose to go here my insurance company sent me here. There was no communication and they did not disclose damages they were aware of to the insurance company or myself which would have resulted in the vehicle being totaled. The original quote to the insurance company was roughly $8600. The vehicle was not worth more than $12,000 at the most. So how on earth the went ahead repairing it is beyond me. Gates then had the audacity to submit a bill to my insurance company for a total of $11,124. In the end they do not care about there customer they just wanted to line there pockets with my insurance money. They refuse to return my calls and now here I am 8 weeks later with an underivable vehicle that needs $3600 worth or repairs. Absolutely do not recommend this place.

I purchased my vehicle from Gates South Bend a couple weeks ago. My sales person was Keri A She was attentive and found exactly what I was looking for. She took the time to answer my questions and listened to my wants and needs. If you’re looking for a new or used vehicle I would highly recommend Keri A at Gates Chevy on Ireland Rd.

We recently purchased a new 2025 Chevy Trailblazer from Gates-Chevrolet South Bend (Ireland Road). Our salesman, Sam Rajski, was top notch! He was very knowledgeable and informative. Not only, but he wasn't the pushy typical type you normally encounter at dealerships. There was no pressure or hassle. We would highly recommend Sam at Gates-Chevrolet South Bend. Thanks Sam! We LOVE our new car!!

We had a fantastic experience buying a car from Gates. The salesman was not pushy, financing was explained well, and they treated us fairly on our trade-in.

If I could leave no stars I would. Terrible experience! I had my car towed to Gates Body Shop the day of my accident on February 13th. I didn’t get my car back until May 5th and even then it wasn’t complete. The worst communication. I had to take my car back multiple times for them to fix issues or complete what they didn’t do. Then had to take it to a different body shop to fix a part that I had to wait for Gates to order new and replace but the new body shop said it was definitely not a new part and was “rigged” to work. I feel I was taken advantage of and they had every excuse in the book. My car should’ve been totaled and they just wanted the insurance money out of it. The estimate price quote for the damage more than tripled the original quote and once all was said and done it was more than what I even owe left on the vehicle. So many issues, beating around the bush, poor communication…I could keep going. I will never use or recommend Gates again!

I wouldn't bring anything to these clowns if they were the last shop open. Months to fix a couple body panels in a minor accident. Obviously they soaked and milked the insurance on the deal. Replace 2 tires in opposite corners on an all wheel drive(if you don't understand the issue you don't need to work on vehicles), band aided an ac line (told us and insurance it was fixed to own spec) that ruptured a month later, did a ball joint( seems ok) did 1 of 2 front brakes(left the keeper bolt on the rotor stripped out) do you idiots realize they're sold as a set/pair both sides in a box, why wouldn't you do both side? The vehicles been back because they had dents in it, risk insurance they replaced the bumper while admitting to my wife they just "fixed it" or how about how they had to reprogram the parking sensor 3 different times.

They're very professional, if there's a budget that you're trying to reach. The financial and sales department will do their best to make sure that it's reached. My mom has been going to Gates since 1996, and will continue for all of our vehicle needs.

This shop feigns ignorance about the massive role they play in deciding the fate of someone’s vehicle (and ultimately their life). Based on months of the insurance company blaming these guys and these guys blaming the insurance company I have no will to even bother anymore. I told insurance to keep the chump change they’re offering while ignoring the upgrades and the truck. Based on my experience I have to wonder if the insurance guy gets a kickback and I have to wonder who wants my truck. Is it someone at the shop or someone at the insurance company. Or is it just another batch of discrimination for being disabled and easy to exploit. I’ve been paying my full insurance to walk. Since November of 2022. It’s May 2023. I just had the rack and pinion replaced, new tires, and soooo much more. It is my opinion someone already has dibs on it. I just paid my registration for a vehicle I can’t drive. This shop wants 600 bucks to drag it back to me because and they keep refusing to fix it for me. They say they don’t fix totaled vehicles but I think what they mean is they don’t fix without a blank check. Not having transportation has been brutal and has made any progress to getting back on my feet impossible. I am ready to simply give up completely because it doesn’t seem like I’ll ever be allowed to live. Breathing is not living.

Travis Walsh and the Gates team were fantastic to work with!! They were able to answer every question/concern very thoroughly on our 2025 Chevy Blazer EV. Travis went above and beyond to meet our needs/wants! Our family will most definitely be going back to Gates for our next purchase! Thank you guys!!

Very communicative and professional! Not to mention they do fantastic work. I have never had body work done before so I was worried the paint matching might not be perfect and it would look slightly off. They definitely exceeded my expectations and I will be coming back if I ever need any work done.

I stopped in on a whim and Devin was able to take care of a couple of issues I had right on the spot while I waited. I didn’t even have to make an appointment! Thank you again for being kind and having a servants heart !

Sam is hands-down one of the best in the business! He’s incredibly laid back, never pushy, and truly listens to what you’re looking for. Working with him was a breath of fresh air—no pressure, no gimmicks, just honest help. If you meet up with Sam, chances are you’ll drive away with something even better than you imagined. Highly recommend!

Had work done at another body shop recently and discovered the crap job Gates performed on my vehicle 6 years ago with Bondo....ALOT of bondo... after telling me and my husband that the back quarter panel was completely replaced! Dishonest, rush job and poor quality work.

Poor communication and repeated delays with service. I was told I could drop my car off during my lunch hour because the work would take only 30 minutes, and that no appointment time was needed. When I returned nearly an hour later, the service hadn’t even started. I then waited in the lobby for over an hour with no updates or communication from staff. This “30-minute” service was to finish work originally started in September, but the shop had lost the remaining pieces needed for the body panels. I had to follow up twice over two months just to confirm the parts were reordered and received. I will not be returning to this location for future service. The only reason I’m not leaving a 1-star review is because my car looked fine when I picked it up in September—aside from the parts they were still waiting on but ultimately misplaced once they arrived.

TERRIBLE WORKMANSHIP/THEY DO NOT CARE BRAD RUSSELL the estimator lied to my face after being confronted. On my second attempt for Gates to fix what they were paid over 12k to do the 1st time. The car had minor passenger side damage from a deer strike. Odometer was at 8,xxx mi's. This place was a preferred facility thru Liberty Mutual. Once it was "done" I noticed a lot of things incorrect or done wrong. Scratches on a newly painted hood. Wrong hood decals. The wrong Camaro nameplates, no bowtie, bubbles in the paint and dirt. Etc. Panels misaligned and hanging. The more I looked, the more I found. Ray the manager promised an LED bowtie to compensate me for my time and trouble. SURPRISE! They didn't even honor that. I reluctantly took it back for Gates to do the job right the 2nd time. Per insurance request. Showed up unexpected to find more lies about what had been done. MY REAR TIRES ROASTED TO THE BANDS. Tire debris caked up in the most disrepectful way for an owner to find their car. They must have just sat at full throttle to do this. TRIED TO BLAME ME. Stated he had before photos. ANOTHER LIE he did not!! Just tragic comedy at this point. Then I was accused by Brad of being a difficult customer. "Because I had a list." Of very obvious things that still needed fixed. (See Photos) All verified by Brad and insurance. I was supposed to be a priority since they couldn't complete it right the first time. They left it sitting in their inventory lot not being worked on. Told me they needed another week. After ignoring me for more than a month. I immediately removed my vehicle and now have insurance paying another "body shop" to fix what they charged for originally. 12k in repairs. DO NOT USE GATED IRELAND RD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES They are not and will not hold themselves accountable. I have receipts, documentation and all the communication to back this up. If anyone from Gates cares enough to ask.

Came in and the guy Bud Bengtson was off bat rude and can tell he was annoyed. I got his name by having his card placed on the table and knew instantly I was going to make a review. Sad how it’s already poorly reviews as is and now there’s another take. Definitely won’t come back here if he’s remained here.

They did a fine job on the repair but communication is seriously lacking. I dropped my car off last Monday morning, without an estimate of how long the repair would take. I called after they opened and was told “hopefully by Friday but it may bleed into next week.” Last Friday I received a text message update stating my car repair was started and expected to be finished that day by 5:30pm but never received a message stating it was actually finished. I called on today (Monday) to get an update since the tracker hadn’t moved and still showed it was estimated to be done Friday and was told it was done on Friday. I took the screen shot below today (Monday) after I picked up the car and it STILL isn’t updated. They need to do better with updating the tracker and communicating with their customers when a vehicle is actually finished. Not everyone has a back up or is able to get a rental for a week long (or longer) repair. The appointment for Monday was completely pointless since they didn’t even touch my car until Friday. I think changing how they schedule appointments would greatly improve their customer service and satisfaction ratings - maybe scheduling them for the day they plan on actually working on the car and not letting it sit untouched for a week while their customers have to pay for a rental.

Unprofessional group that cannot keep their word. They'll keep your car however long they want, still fail to do proper repairs and throw bullshit aftermarket parts on your car and tell you it's good. Avoid any Gates possible, I promise you won't regret choosing ANY other shop.

Had to rewrite my review due to being fed up having to run around to get "Workmanship" that is "Guaranteed" fixed every few weeks or month. Explained how the sensor was going off and would beep saying people are behind me. Everytime we went up there it seemed like the customer was the problem for wanting to get the job done correctly. I received my truck at the end of August and I advised "Brad" that the sensors were out of the holes. He advised me it would be good and if I had problems to bring it back. I did have problems and brought it back. Then, it felt like the guy just kept laughing in my face like at the beginning so I asked to speak to "Ray" the manager. He advised me he would have it looked into and he did. I gave a 4 star for that because he told me the reason was because it had extra paint on the sensor and they tried to place them better in the holes. Keep in mind this was the same week I got my truck back and from the 8th-12th of September I kept recording videos of it. Went back and got it fixed. Now its December 12 and the problem persists again on the same side for the same sensors. We gave them a call and they advised they would have to call us back. Went to get a second opinion at "GURLY LEEP Collision" and the lady was so helpful and pointed me even to the correct place WITHOUT EVER Receiving my business or money. I Would NOT recommend this workmanship at all. The first picture is the "Workmanship Guarantee", other ones were from September 12th the day before the repairs, the last ones are from December 10th. Videos couldnt be uploaded but I did my best.
