There is something weird about such a small building/workshop. A person's brain can get crossed just wondering how they get any work done. But, I'm hooked. I started using Hi-Tech because my son is pleased with their care of his VW CC. Hi-Tech has done spark plugs and fluids and recently a complete brake job for my Prius. These guys and ladies are friendly, their work is quick and great, and that workshop is clean and humming with efficiency.

WOW. I paid $3800 for a lot of work, and when I checked the replacement part VIN# on the invoice, I discovered that Hi Tech had sourced and installed a 170k-mile-old transmission in my truck. [No Hi Tech communication before the discovery, maybe they thought no one would check it?] Yes, the truck is old ~classic, but wow. That is a $2300 transmission service with a 170k-mile-old transmission. I'm thinking free from pick-your-part by the airport? Now, when I called them, the owner told me that the warranty is 12 months and 12k miles on the transmission. They will source and replace it with a different one if it breaks within 12 months. Does that include tow service back to Hi Tech? Is what I am thinking.. The owner thinks this is ok. My opinion: I don't want junk on my "old ass truck" as I'm rebuilding it with like-new parts. NO, I would have paid for a new or rebuilt one for the same money or close to it, no way would I select a 170k-mile-old transmission as a replacement. Insane. Maybe they were doing it because my sister doesn't know how to check, and they could take advantage of the situation? Or maybe bc my special needs nephew was with her, dropping it off. I was not involved in the transaction; my sister handled everything for me while I was traveling without my knowledge, and I only received the bill after everything was complete. Not sure what the logic is at Hi Tech, more like "Duh Tech". Response~7/18 MORE: The truck has been rebuilt, and the only remaining items are the engine and transmission. Yes, Nephew did a number on the truck, which is why it's in the shop (I've never seen damage like it is in the exhaust, radiator, transmission, water pump, fan, battery). Sister tried to do covert repairs as a way to fix it quickly. She knows nothing about car and truck repair. She chose the repair based on the expert's recommendation at the shop. THAT IS THE ISSUE. NO WAY WOULD ANYONE INSTALL AND RECOMMEND A 170K MILE pick your part. The transmission is free. Hi-Tech theft 100%. Shame on you.

I had my coolant warning light come on and called this shop to see if they might be able to help. “Come on over,” they said on the phone. So we did and, on arrival, the gentleman at the front desk stopped what he was doing to head outside and check the car himself. This place is amazing! I had taken my car here for yearly inspections many times, and they had always been so friendly and fast. I called them for a quote after receiving an outrageous quote from another shop in the neighborhood for some pretty simple maintenance. Hi Tech quoted me HALF of what the other shop did and had my car ready for pickup within three hours as promised. They even took the time to show me the old part and the brand of the new part used. I feel so relieved to know that I will never need to call around for service again as I know they will always provide the best quality work without price gouging. Thanks a bunch, Hi Tech team!

Awesome experience! I decided to try this place after getting nowhere with the dealership, the reviews looked good, and they did not disappoint! We asked for a brake check / oil change- no charge for the break check….but charged $420 for an oil change - tire rotation——-they told us our cabin/air filters are good- they “blew them” out and it cost $100! See itemized receipt-it shows it took a half an hour of labor to “blow by out” the air/cabin filter but cost less “labor” to do the whole oil change- math ain’t math in’. We are new to Austin and this place is dishonest - violates your trust and manipulates their customers-

I’ve been to many a repair shop over the years, and this one is among the best! I had the misfortune of experiencing a rare turbo failure on a diesel - quoted $11k at the first (reputable) shop. Hitech solved it for less than half with an after market new part with a warranty. Great communication through and through. I have found my Austin partners in car maintenance!

Bottom line of this review: Clarify the cost of any recommended repairs before agreeing or be shocked when you pick up your vehicle. When the owner or shop manager called to let me know that they recommended an oil and air filter change after assessing my car, I asked how much the cost would be. The owner's response was "I am not sure. I am not in front of my computer." Which is sort of bizarre since he is quick to tell you they've been in business since 1987. I assume you would know how much an oil change is by now if you've been charging people for them for almost 40 years. And if you don't, then walk 10 feet to your computer and look it up. The shop isn't that big. Well, I unfortunately let it go, only to pick up my car and handed a bill for just under $500. Granted, it was a fully synthetic oil change. But charging $97 in labor and over $40 in parts for a cabin air filter that I've exchanged myself in 5 minutes for $10 is absurd in my opinion. I get it, everything's expensive now and you're a mechanic shop on South Congress likely paying plenty in rent or taxes, but the point of my review is this, don't purposefully hide your exorbitant prices from new customers even when they directly ask for them. If you visit them, I would recommend you get a formal detailed quote for their services before agreeing.

I highly recommend Hi-Tech Automotive for any auto needs anyone may have. In fact, I can't recommend them enough. They have been my primary auto repair shop for nearly 20 years. In addition to Hi-Tech being my auto repair shop, I have bought 2 used vehicles from them. Both were excellent purchases. The second one is the used 2004 truck that I'm still driving. I bought it in 2010. Fifteen years later, 21 years old, and it's still got a long way to go. And I can thank Hi-Tech for that. Hi-Tech is a proficient, family owned, local business that prides itself upon providing masterful, quality service to its patrons. The management and employees are considerate, friendly, and knowledgeable hard workers who treat customers with dignity and care.
