I brought in my car to replace the sun visor and the mechanic working on it told me I needed to get my brakes changed asap and that the car was dangerous to drive with the brakes I had on. As someone who doesn’t know much about cars I immediately assumed he was trying to upsell me. But a few additional opinions confirmed what he told me. I bought some parts and had him install them. My car is super smooth now and no squeaking when I break. The same mechanic told me some other things I can get replaced, just for safety and longevity, but confirmed the car wasn’t dangerous and that I can just get to replacing those parts when I have the time/money. I drive a Toyota, trying to make it last forever with upkeep. I bought the parts myself but the service was slightly cheaper than surrounding mechanics that I’ve been to.
