The folks at John Ellis have always done a great job for me. Diagnosing and fixing problems in a timely manor. Helping to keep my vintage Vanagon and my Subaru WRX in top shape. I've been pleased with the service my first two visits. The location is ideal for me, and detailed communication provided by their staff via text message and phone call makes me confident in their services and estimates. My 2011 Scion is getting older and some big expenses have come up, but I feel confident I'm never talked into services that are unneeded. John Ellis has consistently provided excellent service for all my vehicles for many years. They have always provided a honest assent of the issues and have not charged me for work that did not need to be done. When they have diagnosed an issue, it has always been repaired or replaced efficiently and effectively. I have never had further issues with anything they have worked on. In these days when it may be hard for the average Joe to understand automotive mechanics, these guys have always been right on. I trust these guys implicitly!

I almost never leave negative reviews, but my recent experience at John Ellis warrants one. After getting a flat tire, I was referred to this shop through AAA. I specifically run Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on my vehicle, and when I went there, I was assured they had the exact tire in stock and could replace it. Unfortunately, instead of installing the tire I requested, they mounted a Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. When I pointed out the mistake, I was told that this was still a "good tire"—which entirely misses the point. It is not the tire I run, nor the tire I was promised. When I requested a refund and return the tire, I was informed that refunds were not possible once the tire had been mounted. Instead, they offered me $200 off a future set of four all-season tires or Kumho tires—an offer that felt dismissive and irrelevant, given the fact that I came in expecting a single proper replacement. When I asked about PS4S, they told me they didn’t even have that tire in stock. I wish they could’ve said that in the first place and I would’ve went somewhere else. This experience left me feeling misled, frustrated, and ultimately out $500 for a product I never agreed to. Trust is critical in this industry, and unfortunately, I felt that mine was taken advantage of.

This is my local mechanic, and they are excellent. Inspections are very thorough, and John Ellis & Son provides a texted link to the report you can save or share easily which I appreciate. I have brought numerous cars in, and they always give me honest quotes without trying to tack on useless fees/work. Matthew deserves a special shout out for his help getting my Jeep fixed up and recommending services that would be the most affordable for me, even going so far to recommend shops that could do more specialized work. If you are looking for a ‘go-to’ shop in the Sacramento area, look no further. Keep up the good work guys.

Came here for an oil change, but they identified a lot of things in their inspection that needed to be worked on. I know that their inspection was accurate because another mechanic had told me that I had the same problems so I feel that they are very honest. The work was able to be done the same day And car is running smoothly. They will be my go to shop for repairs from now on, I also really like the ability to schedule online.

Auto repair shops seem to have alot of bad press about them. And I have been to alot of those shops in my lifetime. I recently took my car to John Ellis &Son for some engine noise. Service Writer Felix was EXCELLENT!! After the diagnostic , he walked me through all of the things that they had found. The Service Tech, Zach did a fantastic job!!! They have a new lifetime customer!! Highly recommend this shop!!

With this shop some of the staff may come and go but the good customer service is here to stay. I took my car in recently for an oil change and yes other things were found but they have an informative system set up after assessment to let you decide what you would like to get fixed with estimates. You sign off for approval before anything. The only time they "push" another repair is when they have genuine concern for the driver's safety. Overall good shop!

My tire pressure light went off in the middle of the Central Valley, and I was worried I might have damaged my tire on my way back from San Diego. When I got back, I called John Ellis, and they did a thorough check of my tire, which I think I bought tires from them last year. Their mechanic said the tire was safe and good to go, couldn’t find any damage or leaks, and they didn’t charge me anything, by the way. I’ve been using John Ellis for a few years, since moving back to Sacramento 9 or 10 years ago, and many of my family members have used them for decades and recommended them to me when I moved here. You can count on them as being friendly, courteous, with automobile maintenance and service knowledge and workmanship at the highest levels and add professional, reliable, timely and trustworthy for excellent service and repairs.
