I have always been an advocate for third-party mechanics with a good reputation versus chain stores or dealers for auto repairs. Lam's is an example of one of these mom and pop owned shops with a highly seasoned mechanic and offers solid customer service. They rely on repeat and referral business, while not being not commission driven, and so they won't try to upsell you on things you don't need. Anything Lam finds to be a potential issue, he spends time to show and explain to you why it may need repairing. That is a sign of a good mechanic - the opposite would be a random Jiffy Lube kid telling you your transmission is busted and needs a $1000 repair, or that all of your air filters are dirty (while they show you a random old dirty filter that's not even from your car). Repairs that Lam has done for our family including replacing brake rotors, pads, struts/mounts, shocks, timing belt & water pump, radiator, transmission/oil/brake/power steering fluid changes, power steering pump, valve cover gasket, PCV valve. Lastly, because I have used Lam as a primary mechanic for about 10 years, starting with my first car - a 1997 Acura Integra to my next two - 2004 Civic and 2007 RAV4, I have never had any major issues or surprise repairs - Lam has certainly identified potential issues and things to consider replacing within xyz miles but his labor pricing is VERY fair and he allows customers to bring their own parts (just be sure they are 100% compatible with your exact model). Most recently, I have used Lam for transmission pressure switches, Koni shocks install, front bushings, install on a 2008 Acura TL Type S. No issues whatsoever and well priced. Highly recommended!

I've been taking my fleet of Fords to Lam's Auto Repair on 6819 S Kirkwood Road for almost 20 years, and I can't say enough good things about the service I've received. The mechanic here is top-notch, handling everything from general maintenance to more complex jobs like engine and transmission repair, A/C fixes, suspension work, and even bodywork. He is very knowledgeable in both foreign and domestic vehicles. Not only is the work always done right, but the prices are incredibly fair--I've always felt like I'm getting a great deal. Lam, the mechanic has also taken care of my personal vehicles, a Lexus GX460, a Toyota, a BMW 550i, and a Mercedes with the same level of care and expertise. It's rare to find someone so dependable and skilled, and I highly recommend this shop to anyone in need of honest, high-quality auto repair. Mr. Lam is an excellent mechanic. Brought in my 2000 Camry. Came in for an oil leak. He showed where the leak was visible but also explained that he would check other areas not easily accessible. In addition to the main issues I came in for, he showed more issues below that he found that needed to be either fixed or replaced. He didn't charge for checking/troubleshooting issues, unlike other auto shops where they do charge just to check. Also, I was expecting my car to be in the shop for at least two weeks. My car was available in three business days. It is a very small business but great service. There is a little language barrier but not an issue as he is very polite and patient. Timing belt Water pump Oil pump gasket Bell cover gasket Engine mount Evaporator emission control issues All above fixed. Been driving car for a month now, no issues. Thank you!

Recently moved to Houston and with my unfortunate luck, I started having car issues after an extremely spendy repair earlier this year. I decided to go to Lam's Auto Repair per a friend's recommendation and I'm really glad I did. Mr. Lam was able to inspect my car after I walked in on a Saturday morning. After 15 minutes he told me what was wrong and what needed to be done. I unfortunately also bought the wrong headlights but he was able to find some to replace them with in the shop. I decided to walk over to the lovely restaurants nearby while I waited and I was luckily able to get my car fixed within hours. His prices are very reasonable and he was very kind. The customer service was definitely worth driving across town for!
