This is the best auto place I’ve been to in a long time. Honestly he is the most honest mechanic I’ve met thank you. I sent my girlfriend and mom to fix my truck and my BMW . Took my 2016 BMW 435i in for regular service and a routine check up see that everything is looking good on my car... been coming here forever, wouldn't trust anyone else to touch my Bmw. After lengthy search and some minor misfortunes, I found Legends BMW in the border between Vista and San Marcos. The recommendation came from the published distributor list of Pro Tunning Freaks. So strange, for nearly 6 years I have been commuting along this road, but never knew this outfit existed. It faces opposite side of South Santa Fe Road, thus not visible from my bicycle vantage point. This review comes after my first service appointment. Looking at results, there will be more. Waiting in the office for my car to be completed suddenly a thought somehow came up. A profound realization that Legends BMW provides services to me, I can’t find elsewhere nearby. Here is why. BMW franchise dealer service centers have all the tools, all the firmware versions, all wiring diagrams, and all diagnostic procedures, each conveniently linked with appropriate repair procedure. Step-by-step. And if the mechanic still has some unforeseen situation, there is wide floor with no less than dozen fellow mechanics, willing to help at the instant. General type, small independent service shops often learn how to deal with most common problems and that is how they earn living. Quick repair for a known situation with no risk of warranty complications. However, they will stay away from more involved drivetrain issues and are typically hopeless in the wall erected by modern software inside the many computers modern BMW has. Performance tuners usually know the software well, but they limit themselves to installation of most typical after-market upgrade parts. Fuel supply, pressure sensors, diverter valve, air supply parts, and sometimes turbocharger. But they would not do routine maintenance or service elsewhere around the car. Mike from Legends BMW demonstrated something I always looked for but failed to meet. He is equally comfortable with routine repairs, advanced drivetrain repair, software tunning, virtually any performance upgrade. Even more, he offers and discusses service without drama or this so common “yes, but … “ , I listen from other mechanics. He just accepts the work and does it. Although I could not see how he works on my car, casually while waiting, with deep envy, I saw him dismantling and re-assembling inner panel and internals of a driver side door on a M3. Knowing me, it will take me good part of the morning with few plastic parts broken. He did it for about the time of a song by Beatles. Mechanics like Legends BMW are extreme rarity. Professionals like Mike would somehow work in places where either is a larger overhead business (meaning bigger service shop, or a chain), or they would go somewhere a premium pay for their craftsmanship would be rewarded. One place I would imagine is racing team mechanics. I guess this is the freedom of entrepreneurship. Keep reading that in the USA large portion of everyday struggles are lifted on the shoulders of small local businesses. Typically, family-owned. And I can’t disagree with that. Yesterday I learned this – support your local mechanic. We both need each other. Mike demonstrated outstanding professional integrity. He takes no short corners. At least that is what he demonstrated to me. Highly recommended. Will do business again.

I have had BMW's personally for the last 12 years. Mike has worked on all of my cars ranging from e36 m6 e46 m3 f12 m6 and my v10 m6. Having a v10 m6 is daunting and a trustworthy and knowledgeable mechanic is a must with that car. Mike is the only person I will ever have work on my cars. He is very transparent about what is wrong with a vehicle, and provides real solutions that are timely and honest. He doesn't sell you crap you don't need. He always plans ahead for the future of what your vehicle will need, in a preventative way versus selling unnecessary service.
