Love this mechanic than anywhere else in Bayonne! Vinny is straightforward and very reasonable prices just to do basic oil and maintenance work on cars. Dealerships are of course rip offs and you don't get that 1-on-1 mechanic interaction in describing what services you need. Tell them this review Andrew next door recommended to come here if you do decide to service your car here!

2013 jeep Wrangler. Replacement: oil filter housing, radiator and thermostat. Appointment time: mid week Pros: Parking lot Vehicle drop off Friendly staff Knowledgeable mechanics Pricing is fair Able to schedule a time Accommodating Cons: Forgot to reinstall my turn signal bulbs into their light housing Brought my car in for a coolant leak that wasn't found by a different shop but I'm positive that I was having. Everyone was extremely helpful during the time the car was there for service. Vinny was fantastic over the phone and even more pleasant in person. I'm well aware of the common issues with my vehicle and the fact that he was aware of them as well and has done the work before increased my confidence. While diagnosing my coolant issue they also found a leak from my oil filter housing (common problem in my car). I'm no mechanic but I've been wrenching on my own vehicles since I had a license and I'm well aware of the labor involved in the work (I've had to access this same part myself to change a coolant temp sensor and it's a PITA) . The team was very accommodating for my odd availability to drop off and pick up the car. As far as pricing goes I don't really have a comment. I felt like it was fair. I understand that I'm paying for their experience, access to tools/equipment and ability to diagnose and fix issues. I'm not one to haggle prices if I feel like the mechanics are competent and talking to me with respect (they absolutely did) I never felt like I was getting over charged or over sold on anything. I would definitely go back for future service on my car. I'd recommend calling ahead though for a spot. As I was told on the phone they are "blessed with a lot of work" 🙂. My previous mechanic closed shop a year ago and I've been on the hunt for a good shop. This place, so far has felt solid. Issues: Both of my front turn signal bulbs where not reinstalled into their housing (turn signals are attached to my front grill and it needs to be removed for the radiator install). It was a quick 5 minute fix for me and I was fortunate to catch the hickup before my drive to work the next day during my walk around inspection of the vehicle post pick up at the shop. Happy I caught it before I got pulled over for not having turn signals. Things happen, not gonna hold this against them. Update* Car had the same issue a while back with the radiator and the staff agreed that this should have not occured with new parts. They took care of the issue with no concerns. And again very accommodating with pick up/drop off.

Had a nasty sound coming from the rear of my car, we figured it was a misaligned exhaust pipe. I took the car in, few hours later Vinny calls and says he fixed the sound and it only costed $20! When I got there I forgot to bring cash, and was about to walk to an ATM when he said, "Take the car first and you can pay me later, don't worry about it." 😁 I'll definitely be coming here for my future repair needs!

Absolute joke of a shop. Their sign says "Repairs on All" and "Domestic and Imported Vehicles," but apparently that's just for show. I brought in my BMW with a power steering rack issue as well as the part and he immediately nodded no and said along the lines "I don’t wanna go near a BMW". What's the point of advertising that you handle imports if you're going to cherry-pick which ones you'll even look at? Wasted my time and gas. Go somewhere that actually stands by their claims.

I've been coming to Midtown Auto since 2016 and have serviced each of my vehicles with Vinny and his staff. Not once have I ever had an issue with the crew here and they have always been helpful with my car in and out the same day regardless of the repair or maintenance. They're always in your best interest with what needs to be serviced with honesty and integrity. At the end of the day, you pay for what you get and any amount of money spent to service your vehicle is worth it from everyone here.

I came to Vinny, a well experienced, knowledgeable and attentive mechanic who took a ride with me, lifted my vehicle and the list of things wrong were vast. I was in and out for an inspection. Vinny was friendly and informative, also has a nice sense of humor. I asked him when do I get my second set of plates since I’m new to NJ. I thought they only gave me 1 and then I got the second after the inspection. Vinny said “I wager you this, I bet you they are stuck together. Went in for state inspection of my car. I called ahead to confirm that this was in fact an inspection place. They confirmed that were, I asked if I needed an appointment they said not busy and to come down. I arrived and the man at the counter apologized saying that the man to do inspection was on his way but stuck in traffic. I had several errands to run so decided to return in approximately 45 minutes. When I came back the man, Vinny that does the inspection was there. They got me out in about 10 minutes. Vinny and the other man at the counter were both polite and professional. I would recommend them and I will return for other automotive needs.

I needed to get my car checked out for the state inspection and I didn't want to wait in the crazy lines at the mvs, so it was worth it to pay for the service! I was in and out in 15 minutes and I felt he even went out of his way to make sure my car passed. I got my sticker and left. So quick and easy! Also I hit a deer on my move here and he even gave me a really good referral to a place that wouldn't rip me off. Can't beat that! I'll be going back next time I need car services for sure. I wish I could remember his name, but he was super polite!

DO NOT GO HERE! I went for a oil change and saw this after picking my car up only because my low tire signal came on and when I went to put air in the tire there was no tire cap it was missing so I went to buy a tire cap and the gentlemen at autozone pointed out the damage to the top of my car. When I went back and asked about it they said it couldn’t have been them it looks like someone tried to break in.

I’m very late in leaving this review, but it’s something I absolutely had to do. I own a 2015 white Ford Fiesta and was dealing with some mechanical issues. As a woman, it can be especially difficult to find an honest and trustworthy mechanic, but Vinny truly exceeded my expectations. From day one, he was amazing straightforward, transparent, and genuinely kind. He took the time to walk me through every step of the process, explaining what was happening with my car and what needed to be done. I felt completely at ease knowing I was in good hands. I couldn't be happier with Midtown Auto Repair! My old 2007 VW GTI failed the state inspection, and I was pretty worried as everybody told me to get a new car unless I spent $$$$ on repairs and that it would never pass. A couple of local friends recommended this place, and boy, am I glad they did! Vinny, the owner, totally got that I needed the bare minimum to pass. He fixed only what was necessary and didn't try to upsell me on a bunch of extra stuff. He did point out some "weaknesses" he spotted, which was helpful to know for future reference. The service was super quick, honest, and exactly what I needed. They really know their stuff. They've been in business for 26 years - that says a lot! The staff was super friendly and professional too. If you've got an older car or just need honest, reliable service, I highly recommend Midtown Auto Repair. PROTIP: If you're worried about passing inspection, these are definitely the guys to see. They'll get you sorted without breaking the bank.

I owe Vinny from Midtown auto so much gratitude for possibly ending the car saga I have had to deal with for the past year. Last Friday, my car finally died on me and he was able to diagnose and fix it. Hopefully, he helped save me from having to get a new car 🙏🏻🙌🏻 so far I haven’t had any issues after my car not starting twice last week and ultimately dying on me Friday. Vinny was so professional and didn’t even need to use a computer to figure out the problem when every other mechanic and hyundai service said I had no problem because their computer said so. Clearly there was a problem and Vinny was just the guy I needed. It was not the start to the weekend I hoped for but at least I finally have one less stressful problem to deal with 🤞🏻
