I have been going to Nichols for 21 years. This is the ONLY shop I will go to. Mike has always been honest and fair. They are not the cheapest. But a GOOD mechanic is never cheap.

UPDATE - 12/13/16 - I just finished doing a Rear Main Seal / Clutch job because back in November, I notice a huge oil slick under my engine. Long story short - The valve cover gasket Nichols installed during the Head replacement was over torqued and that crushed and squeezed the cork gasket from under the valve cover, causing a large leak. I installed a good Felpro rubber gasket: problem solved. After getting my truck back from Nicols in March - My truck had pitiful top end power with hesitation - I pulled the timing cover just to see if the timing job they did was ok. I found my Camshaft was off one tooth and the tensioner bolt was finger loose- not tight (torque spec is 40 LB/ft.) My cam synchronizer was off as well. Spark and injection timing was off because of this. I reset the timing, torqued everything to spec. Fired it up and WOW what a difference!! It has plenty of top end power now. I don't know how I fell through the cracks, but damn! I hired Nichols to do this work, because at the time my health did not permit me to do my own repairs, but now as I go through their work all I can say is "Flat rate" is to blame. I'm sure their mechanics are good guys who would love to do a good job if they had time. BEWARE if you're having major repairs done. Get educated on your vehicle and the shop you choose. If they're on the flat rate system, the mechanic will likely take short cuts because TIME IS MONEY - YOUR MONEY. To be fair, I don't know if Nichols is on the flat rate system or not, but I got a flat rate effort from them. Posted after March head/gasket and timing kit. (Original Post) Did a great job replacing my head gasket, but wound up having to solve an idle problem (which it did not have when I took it there) on my own. I initially took it back to them, but they didn't fix the problem. The problem: They broke a vacuum line either during the upper manifold removal or replacement, causing loping, low idle and stalling and numerous Check Engine lights. I spent 3 weekends narrowing the problem down to their shoddy, half assed repair of the vacuum line they broke. Will never return again, nor recommend this shop to anyone desiring a solid repair especially when it cost almost $2,000.00!!! R. Tarris

They do not install customer parts. Bad for business because when you get your own you know what you have. I'd rather install what I want verses what they are going to get. Sometimes parts mchanic get are much cheaper in quality. I have never used them or know if they actuall do that but iam from Jersey and this is what happens but when I was told this on the phone I will never go there for business because of that reason.

Worked on my car for three problems & only fixed 1. Overcharged me to find out why my battery was draining when took back he said needed radiator wanted 600. More dollars. Went toAutozone found the problem in 5 minutes alternator bad. Nothing about this place is professional or honest. I advise people to find another shop.

I recently took a 2008 Jeep Wrangler to Nichol's Automotive. I got what I believe was a fair quote for the work that was needed (new engine) and the new engine. The work was done quickly and very well. I feel comfortable taking my vehicle back here for any other work that might need to be done as well as suggesting this shop to friends and family. Mike Nichol's is the owner/manager of the shop and he is honest, upfront, and trustworthy. I had taken my Jeep to other shops around the CSRA and the Jeep dealership and all the other quotes I received were astronomical and the wait times were outrageous.
