Absolute incompetence. - 0 stars I dropped my vehicle off at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM appointment. Seven hours later, my car hasn't moved because the tires ordered two days ago aren't even in the shop. I received zero updates; I had to force an answer out of you myself. When confronted, your staff actually said: "Times don't matter, it just means your car will get done today." That response is insulting. You held my vehicle hostage for an entire day with no intention of honoring the scheduled time. This level of incompetence and apathy is staggering. You have permanently lost my business.

I had an issue when my car had two stuck lugs and I had just gotten brakes and replaced one of them there in May so they must’ve crossed the threads on it and they wanted 350 to repair??? I said you guys should be responsible for the repairs and the management waived the repair fee. That’s how a good business takes care of its customers and admits that they are not perfect!!! Most places like this would have said oh well they are not responsible!!!

Received very honest and generous service here. Went in with the tire balancing issue, and although there were unable to fix the problem, they didn't charge me anything despite spending close to an hour on the car. Very good service, would highly recommend

I was recommended to Pep Boys by an unnamed tire dealership that was unable to align my front end properly. Tony the manager looked at the alignment report from the tire place, knew exactly what was wrong and set me up for an appointment the next morning. I was in and out in less than an hour with a perfect driving car. Need I say more!

Came in for a small car issue they were busy, but still greeted us and took in our issue right away. Everything got dealt with quickly and got fixed perfectly. Highly recommend them for any work you need done.

Told my whole exhaust had to be replaced which part of it was done 2 years ago. My quote was 1250.00. When told to wait to do work and I would have someone come get keys they couldn't find them and said I had only that day to remove my vehicle or it would be towed. When I had another mechanic come get it it was a 350.00 job. I knew in my gut that when I walked in I was a older women and I would be likely taken advantage of.no other resolutions were given.

Great service from Tony today . He made sure my tire was repaired and informed me about possibly changing out all four tires before the tire tread depth gets to low.

4 brand new tires, Tire sensor broken on the same tire I have a rim leak on and yes, brand new tire and a rim leak. They refuse to take responsibility. When you call to complain and get it fixed they either flat hang up on you or leave you on hold and never return. Go to the Firestone across the way, you'll get better service.

Got an oil change in October and the tech told me he spilled the quart all over the engine and that it 'would burn off'. A month later, I called back because the car still smelled like burning oil - they told me it was still burning off. And again, another month later. Fast forward 4 months, and it still smells like burning. Took it to another mechanic, who said that this 5-year-old car with 50K miles has a bad head gasket. No problems before this very suspect oil change....Can't prove anything but will be avoiding this spot :/

Went in for service to have my headlight bulbs replaced which involves removing the battery. I received a call that the tech did not take note of the battery code for the radio. Service writer informed me they called the dealership and they wouldn't provide the code due to personal information being needed. I asked if he checked the manual and he said he did thoroughly and didn't find the steps to reset the radio. When I picked up the car, there was a whole section in the manual on how to reset the radio in case the battery is disconnected.

(DO NOT GO HERE) I genuinely cannot warn people strongly enough to avoid this Pep Boys location. We brought our vehicle in for one simple service only: mounting snow tires that we purchased through eBay and scheduled via CarAdvise. No diagnostics. No repairs. Just tires. Here’s what actually happened: • The car sat at this location for an entire week becausen tires arrived late due to a snowstorm — totally understandable... • Despite having the car all week, they waited until the very end of the day, right before closing, to finally work on it when they did arrive (still fine) • We then received a call minutes before closing saying they broke a bolt and could not finish because the mechanic was no longer there That alone is concerning — but it gets worse.... The bolt broke while THEY were performing the service, yet we were charged for the replacement. Charging a customer for damage caused during your own service is unacceptable. When we contacted CarAdvise, they confirmed what we suspected: Because this was a third-party booking, this location attempted to upsell and extract additional charges beyond the agreed service. To add insult to injury, their inspection report stated we “needed new windshield wipers” — despite the fact that those wipers were replaced ONE weeks prior. That immediately destroyed any credibility this shop had left. So to recap: • Damage occurred during service • The customer was charged for that damage (us) • MULTIPLE clearly false recommendation were added to the report • No accountability was taken -adding that my husband is a car guy and takes immaculate care of his vehicle. And perhaps the most alarming part: They were actively working on vehicles without a qualified mechanic present... This isn’t just bad service — it’s unsafe, unethical, and predatory. If you value your vehicle, your time, or your money, go literally anywhere else. This experience was stressful, unnecessary, and completely avoidable. We will never return — and we strongly encourage others to steer clear.

I scheduled an appointment online for 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday at the Pep Boys in Round Lake Beach and arrived at 9:20 with a flat on my front passenger tire. I told the gentleman at the counter I needed a flat or tire repair on that wheel. He told me it would take 25 to 30 minutes tops, so I said that was fine and went for a walk while they worked on it. When I came back about 45 minutes later, I was told that he never said that and that it would be at least another hour before they could even look at my car. At that point I asked for my keys back and left. This was extremely frustrating and felt like completely unacceptable communication. I had an appointment, I adjusted my plans, and I was given a clear time estimate that they did not stand behind. I understand that I technically never became a paying customer today, but I absolutely would have been if they had followed through on what they said. Instead, they lost my trust and my business. I will not be returning to this location.

I am not someone that leaves bad reviews but wow this was the 2nd bad experiences with Pep boys in a matter on 1 week. Last week I ordered tires for the Waukegan location and when I showed up to the appointment they didn’t have them. So I left and the lady told me that she would reach out to me and see if she was able to order them. She never reached out and canceled my order. Once I saw they canceled my order, I put in another order for the round lake location earlier in the week and put an appointment for Saturday. 2 days before the appointment I called to confirm if they had the tires. A man with a very low/monotone voice picked up and confirmed they did. Told me he would have them for Saturday. Saturday comes around and I show up and the same man “helped me” said he couldn’t find my appointment/order. I gave him my order number and the whole time he was acting dumb like he didn’t see anything. He ended up telling me that they didn’t have the tires. I asked if there was any tires in the size I was looking for. He said “nope nothing I can do about” the only reason for the review is the terrible attitude that the man had. I was very annoyed so I left and as soon as I got in my car I noticed that the order was canceled, GUESS HE WAS ABLE TO SEE MY ORDER. Word of advice to peps boy, have the lady pick up the phone and deal with the customers (she was very nice and understanding) other guy is terrible Ended up paying more in Costco for the tires but the services was great, go to Costco instead.

My father brought my car here about 2 weeks ago to put my tire on the rim. The workers here were wonderful and helped him immediately. They finished the job fast and were extremely kind to not charge him for the service. We will definitely be coming in the future and having this team service our cars. Thank you for the wonderful service!

Nice people and good communication. However, expect to be overcharged. I was quoted $1600 bucks to fix a minor emissions leak. After paying the $100 diagnosis fee, which is charged regardless if they do the work or not, I took my car to an independent mechanic and saved more than half of what pep boys tried to charge me. Be diligent. Do research!

I was sold 8 year-old tires without my knowledge! Today I went for an appointment to get new tires and an alignment for my truck. Lets say it was awful and then some. I started my appointment with a positive greeting, a staff member taking my truck to a bay and also being notified that there was no one on staff to do an alignment, which isn't the biggest deal, so I scheduled my alignment for another day. Then came the nightmare that I am now dealing with. My appointment in total took 3 hours. I am aware they have to do their checks as part of the appointment and I didn't think anything of if. Two men, who were waiting just like me, were notified in person about issues with their cars. I personally, did NOT recieve any info about my inspection, which I thought was weird. I went to do some things as I was waiting and recieved a call over an hour into my appointment regarding the tires I wanted not being the correct size and that they couldn't find ones that fit. I was offered tires of the same style/brand which I accepted as all 4 tires were already off of my truck. I also knew when I went in that I had a bad sensor in one of my tires. At around 2 hours and 15 mins in to the appointment I was notified that the sensor would need to be replaced as it was interfering with the air of the tire. I of course said go for it as it was necessary. They replaced that sensor and completed my service after being there a total of 3 hours. I ended up refusing the alignment and was given a 10% discount for the tire issue. I recieved my keys from a staff member and was then told that my tire light will still be on as I still have a bad sensor. I waved it off at this point as I am ready to just get out of there. I went down the road to get an alignment and was notified there that the DOT or Date Of Tire read from the years of 2017-2020. It is recommended to have tires no older than 6 years on your car. They sold me 8 YEAR-OLD TIRES! When called the shop denied that they were in the wrong and used me to get rid of tires they had sitting for to long. The manager called it legal, I call it screwing over a young woman. I have already contacted headquarters and Pep Boys will no longer be recieving any of my business.
