I can't say enough positive things about my experience. I paid way less than I expected and they completed the job in no time.

I have to say this shop went above and beyond helping my daughter get her vehicle running properly again. Kept me (her Dad) informed every step of the way as well... Four shops could not diagnose but these guys found it...and it was light years easier fix than the other bad guesses. Highly recommend. Kraig, you've returned my faith in man-kind for sure. Thank you for your extra efforts. Tom

Phenomenal customer service and work! My brother has been coming here for parts/labor for his offroad truck for as long as I can remember and he's an auto mechanic himself so it takes a lot for him to trust others! Went by today to pick up a very large part that was fixed for my brother and they loaded it into the truck for me and helped me steer in and out of the shop as well. Highly recommend!

These guys are awesome. Kraig and his staff are professional, explain exactly what they are doing, give accurate estimates and get the job done right the first time. Mechanics in San Diego are a dime a dozen. Good mechanics are rare indeed. Great Work Pro Gear!

These guys are great. I decided to try my hand at shortening a 8.8 rear end and rebuilding it. Things didn't go so well. I took it to pro gear where they straitened the axle housings, reassembled the rear end and even re-welded the mounting brackets for me. They went so far as to paint the rear end where the welding took place to match the painting I had already done. All of this at a very fair price and with a ridiculously fast turn around time. I'll definitely go there again.

The team at Pro Gear are the only ones to go to for axle work in San Diego. Professional and courteous. The Experts in SD County. Save yourself the time and headache...don't go anywhere else. Thanks for getting my Jeep JKUR back to fully functional again!

All I can say I wow. Dropped off my business van to them yesterday. They diagnosed the problem quickly and got back to me telling me that they were having a problem finding the axle they needed. They understood that this is a business vehicle so they kept calling around instead of making me wait 10 days without a truck to have one made. They found one in LA yesterday afternoon. They received it early this morning and I was back in business by noon today! This is what customer service looks like. Thanks you guys for a job well done! 👍

Top Notch! Great to work with and know their stuff. So far so good. Took my 1996 Toyota Landcruiser in for crawler transfer case gears and axle gear swap to 4.88's. They did the work in a timely manner and at a reasonable price. I don't expect any problems but am confident they will stand behind their work based on their great attitudes and great customer service.

I had my Tacoma regeared to 5.29 and a front locker installed. Everyone I spoke with at Pro Gear seemed to be very intelligent and knew exactly what they were doing. From contact with Andrea and Justin on the phone, to the mechanic who did the work on my truck (I forgot his name, which I regret because he is epic), everyone at this shop is awesome and instills confidence that I took my truck to the right place. Pro Gear is now my benchmark for how a shop should treat me and my vehicle. Very impressive. The attention to detail here is insane - they went above and beyond to make sure my rig was performing better than ever. They retapped a few skid plate bolts I had roughed up while wheeling, so that everything fit together perfectly after they were done. They fixed my leaky air compressor which had been a problem since I installed it. These weren't required as part of the job I hired them for, and they didn't charge me extra for it! Accurate to the estimate. Due to how bashed up my truck was, and a missing aux compressor harness (my fault), they had to take 2 hours of extra time to do it right. This is a clear display of their commitment to quality. If you want a shop that won't cut corners and will simply do it the right way, it's Pro Gear. Oh, and the gears make NO NOISE. 500mi so far, holding strong and quiet. That's the main reason I brought my truck here - they accept nothing less than a perfect pattern, confirmed after talking with them when I was picking it up. They take pride in their work and they want your vehicle to be an example of that work. Don't mess around, take it to Pro Gear. This is a well run, quality-first shop that is worthy of your business. Thank you again Pro Gear!

After getting a lot of recommendations from family, friends, and complete strangers I asked about who regeared their rigs, I was convinced to go to Pro Gear. I spoke to Justin about what I was planning on doing with my 2020 Tacoma (suspension build, tire size, type of driving, current concerns I had with my stock gearing). Justin provided options based on my needs. Following that conversation, I received an exact quote (no changes!) and made an appointment for installation of 5.29s. In the interim, I had a lot of questions about my truck (and mods, tires, etc.) that were not specifically related to the regearing. They answered all my questions and made great recommendations. I had a new skid plate in my truck-bed that I was going to install myself. When I told them about that, they installed it for me as part of the project. Once I picked up the truck, they meticulously walked me through the break-in process and offered to answer any questions I come up with after I drove off. They will answer all your questions!! Justin, Ray and Craig provided me with exceptional customer service and very high-quality install. Great experience. Strongly recommend Pro Gear!

I called to ask if they can replace my differential with another from the same vehicle model, and they told me they need to look at their books to find a reference for cost. I'm on the second day of waiting for a response. the website states that they will respond in about one business day. I left a response on the email in case they needed that to respond to. The person who answered my phone call already sounded like they didn't want my business for whatever reason because they were sarcastic on the call. Either way, they have not given me a quote and that's already pretty sketchy. I'll be going somewhere else since they clearly don't want my business.

I had a differential leak and another issue with my 1986 Ford Country Squire. These guys were very helpful and did a good job on my car at a fair price. If I lived in San Diego I would take all my cars here, no hesitation.

Just spoke with Isaac about putting a locker on my two-wheel drive truck and the customer service could not have been better. He was phenomenal in answering all my questions. Just based on that alone, I would highly recommend this company. Exceptional !

Messaged Pro Gear through their website and received a call back within 20 minutes. Very professional and understanding of my situation. Once they diagnosed the issue they had straightforward advice for what should and shouldn't be done based on their observations. It was very refreshing to have a shop that takes pride in their work and doesn't try to sell you everything under the sun to do the repair. A couple bucks later and I had my truck back within a day and a half. Thank you to the team at Pro gear.

Incredible shop. Even jacked up the car to show me what they did. They even returned parts that they thought they might need, but didn’t end up using. Was always nervous of shops that add extra items and claim they needed to be repaired. These guys instead were trying to keep the cost as low as possible for me. Definitely going to be loyal to these guys in the future and recommend for anyone else.

The Ram dealer quoted me an outrageous price for fixing the rear axle ring and pinion in my Dually. I was able to limp it in to Pro Gear and these guys worked a miracle for us Thanksgiving week. We’re traveling through and they bent over backwards to get us taken care of in an expeditious manner. Can’t thank them enough for rebuilding my truck’s rear end for 1/5th what the dealer was going to charge!

I rarely write reviews. When I do, it’s usually long. TLDR: honest people, great shop that just get to the problem and not try to sell extras. Two weeks ago, I brought in my LX470, LC 100’s cousin, to fix a rear axle leak. John was very helpful and patient with my questions and transparent about the process and the estimate. When I dropped off the truck, I asked them to also check out the humming noise from rear passenger side that comes on every time I brake. They quickly traced it to the new LED brake lights I put in recently, which, now I know, have fans that run every time they light up to cool the load balancing resistor. 2 other shops I went to previously said they didn’t hear anything. John told me about this after they diagnosed this and the rear axle leak but before starting to do any work. This was the moment I knew this is the shop I want to work with. Honest, pay attention to details, actually listen to their customer with respect and take them seriously when they describe a problem. This is a no non-sense shop - they seem to take pride in just getting the job done right and quick. They explained my options, what is nice to have done, what must be done now and what can wait and should be monitored. Two other shops I checked out tried to “sell” rear brake job to go with the new axle seal and bearing - John said they will wash them and reuse unless it’s absolutely necessary to replace them (turned out I didn’t need to). While I was waiting for my Uber, I had a chance to watch Kraig patiently and thoroughly explained two different diff locker technology to another customer. For my rear axle job, he took the time to explain to me what a certain gasket is for and why it’s not absolutely necessary to replace (would have added another hour of labor). When picking up, it was close to closing time, so got to chat with Kraig some more. I can tell he takes pride in his work and knows his stuff really well, and is just a good person who cares. I think between him and other techs in his team, they have like over 80 years of experience. Would I come here again? Well, just dropped off the truck today for steering rack replacement and a bunch of front suspension work. If anything changes my opinion, I’ll come back and update. No update means everything went well and this review still holds true.
