Bad Service. I took my 944 Turbo in after changing the timing belt due to some vibration in the upper RPMs that was not there before. R&D proceeded to take the apart the car WITHOUT giving it a test drive to properly diagnose the issue, told me that the balance shafts were fine and the vibration was "normal" after charging $500 for labor. The car still had the vibration so I adjusted the balance shafts myself and it went away. Waste of money.

Since the late 80s early 1990s I have been bringing every car I ever owned to Rick at R&D motorsports. He has maintained my 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser my 2006 Ford F2 50 diesel my Jaguar and my classic 56 Chevy. Nothing but good old-fashioned service. While on a road trip I started having a worrisome noise from my passenger side front end. I adjusted a panel in the wheel well area and it appeared to fix it for the most part. I had already got it stuck in my head that there was possibly a wheel bearing issue and had a lot of miles left to drive so made an appointment. These guys were great. Drove van and to assess and looked underneath. All looked good and maybe a loose heat shield causing some noise. No charge and they sent me on my way with piece of mind. Thank you so much.

A little over a year ago these guys replaced my fuel pump and helped diagnose and fix a nagging issue with my Jeep that I had spent many hours working on. I was very happy with the service. Then a couple of weeks ago it started having intermittent problems so I took it back to them. Turns out the fuel pump had gone bad. They covered everything under their warranty, no charge. Sweet! They do good work and they stand behind it.

I started taking my cars to R&D about 3 years ago. I have a 03 Jaguar X-Type, 05 Acura TL, 08 Accord V6 and my 13 Ram 1500 Hemi. I would not trust work being done by ANYONE ELSE! Rick is straight forward and doesn't BS you with "extras." R&D may cost a few more $$ in labor, but you get what you pay for! I've never had to take my cars back for a second visit to correct a repair. I TRUST Rick and his team for spectacular HONEST service! Don't pay attention to the 1-star review. If I remember correctly, there was a Porsche that was brought in that had a dead possum in the air intake!

Turned out I didnae need them, but they were willing to have me tow my truck in same day. My truck is almost 40 and some shops won't work on older stuff. When I forgot to call them, I got a call back before they went home. Didn't end up needing mechanical service but I've never seen a good shop that didn't also have good mechanics if their office staff was top notch. I forgot their rep's name but I hope they give her a commendation.

I love the people here, they are knowledgeable and they don't overcharge, or try to can you to spend money you don't need to. Actually they have always tried to save me money! What a remarkable shop! I was facing a long drive and had an indicator show that a tire needed attention. AAA suggested R&D Motorsports. I was given royal treatment! The mechanic (I wish I had gotten his name) tested all of my tires, inflated them to the right pressure, drove the car to make sure there were no leaks, and detected a malfunction in the indicator. He did not charge me for that excellent service. I was able to drive back to Los Angeles without worrying about my tires. I wish R&D were in Los Angeles! The shop is spacious, very well equipped for service, and the expertise of the person who took care of my car is extraordinary. Thank you R&D

I am one of those people who moves from mechanic to mechanic because I don't trust the workmanship, and I usually feel as though there is some level of price discrimination occuring since I don't know as much about cars, etc. Now I feel like I've found my forever home (auto repair shop) when I bring my car to R&D Motor Sports! Doug is amazing. He explains the repair, calls to update when he says he will, and I have come to realize I have complete trust in using this company. For my last repair he recommended I bring my car to the dealership because the part that broke was still under warranty and Doug shared the documentation to make sure the dealership honored the warranty. I've been to so many mechanics in this town and I can confidently say this is the very best repair shop in Santa Cruz!

R&D has been our family's go-to for 30 years. Rick is an absolute wizard and I really appreciate the time he takes in explaining the how's and why's of the magic he works. There's probably no one on the Central Coast with more experience. No matter what car we bring in, they're always WAY more fun to drive after they've left R&D.
