Samuel has done portraits of all five of my children. I am delighted with his work, and have the portraits hanging in the main room of our house. So many people have commented on how beautiful they are and we love them! I also have some wonderful still life paintings that Samuel did a couple of years ago for my husband and me. Besides being an amazing artist, Samuel is a great person to work with. I would love to invest in more of his art in the future.

All of Samuel’s work is beautiful, but I find his portraits (including his portrait sketches!) especially amazing. He is able to captures personalities and make a portrait realistic, all while keeping it artistic and not looking like a hyper realistic photographic drawing. Best portrait artist you’ll find anywhere! His still lifes are also amazing, and the one I have of strawberries on a table with a bowl is my all time favorite.

Samuel Walter has been teaching private lessons to our two children; 11 and 13 for around a year. Starting during the pandemic we used, and continue to use, Zoom for remote tuition complemented with in-person lessons, workshops and local field trips.
Samuel is a very talented artist as can be seen with his award-winning portraits. Beyond his artistic talent, Samuel has a gift for patience and clear thoughtful instruction that guides our children to develop their technique. What I appreciate about his lessons is that they are the first time our children have really been taught to focus on the concepts of art; perspective, proportion, form, texture and value. They have previously been on many courses locally and in school that encourage kids to explore craft and creativity. But this is the first time that they have been challenged to fully study and observe their subject and make improvements to their work through thoughtful critique.
With Samuel’s expert tuition, we have seen our kids enthuse about art and grow as junior artists. I would highly recommend Samuel to anyone who wants their children to develop in core and advanced techniques from an extremely skilled and insightful artist.

I have been studying art- drawing and now painting- with Samuel since January of 2023. During that time, my progress has been tremendous. Anyone who has seen my own work improve can see that he has a special talent and developed skill for teaching. He immediately began with foundational concepts, such as line, value, proportions and perspective, all of which made a great difference for me. While teaching, he is able to give demonstration, change modes of instruction and give feedback which all are appropriate and useful in the moment to the student. His ease with switching between different level students suggests a mastery of the subject and intellectual prowess; anyone considering lessons can be confident of high quality instruction. He is brilliant. But perhaps what shines most is the graciousness, patience, kindness he demonstrates for each of his students along with earnest care for their respective artistic skill growth. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to learn from him.
