Short version: Scotty's Auto Repair is a inexpensive auto repair that's convenient, a good price, and best of all, run by someone who really knows what he's doing. Scotty is very responsive to calls and texts, and responded within a few minutes every time. The shop is in a good location with plenty of parking too, literally right off the main freeway. He even checked and topped off my tires to get me ready for the trip back to San Diego. This kind of mechanic is sadly, a dying breed. Long version: I was driving from San Diego to San Francisco, when my worst nightmare happened. My car broke down about 70mi from Bakersfield, in what was essentially the middle of nowhere. My oil pan had 1 inch hole, cut by a piece of debris in the road. After calling AAA roadside premier, which put me in a rental and asked me where to tow my car, I asked them to tow it into town, Bakersfield, while I drove off to San Fran. I called a couple places, and most were either closed on Saturday or didn't have the time, or were way too expensive. I called Scotty's auto repair on Friday afternoon, and he was very helpful. When I mentioned I broke down while traveling and got stranded, he said he was able to squeeze me in on Saturday morning. This may not be that fast for everyone, as they seem to have lots of regular/long term clients, looking at other reviews. We discussed price and parts, and that was that. The next morning, I arrived in Bakersfield at 4am, hung out in the rental until thing opened, grabbed the parts, and headed to the shop. He was able to do the repair for a great price, and he charged a great price for the parts he did provide (Sealent, oil, many other shops overcharge). Within 3 hours of dropping it off, it was done, ran, tested, checked, and ready to go! Will I ever go back? Well, I don't live in Bakersfield, so HOPEFULLY not haha, but let's just Say I was lucky I broke down close to here. Oh, and if you have a AAA card, it's AAA certified shop, so if you tell them on the phone, they will discount you a bit too.

I drove into the parking lot and Scotty heard my car before I even parked. He immediately told me that it was probably a broken timing chain or worse, and that in the end repairs would cost more than the car was worth. His assistant checked more closely and said the same. Then Scotty gave some advice on which cars I might want to look for for maximum reliability, apologized for bad news, and that was it. I really appreciate an honest mechanic who doesn't want to waste your time and money, and I would definitely go here again.

I called to see if my work was under warranty and told him that my a/c was still not working after two trips to his shop and 1200.00 later it still doesn't work. It's only been 3 months since my last visit and I told him it never worked but I can't keep affording to come in. He yelled at me on the phone told me he won't check it out unless I can afford his time and repairs. I told him how will I know how much it's going to be and how much I need to save up, unless you check it out. He was so rude to me and he is way overpriced. Unless you have money to throw away I wouldn't go to this mechanic. Also he was going to charge me 1200.00 to fix my stabilitrak and all it needed was brake fluid.

Where to begin. I was on a business trip in L.A. and took my trusty old 99 Toyota Tacoma hauling a heavy load and made it to my location without a hitch. On my way home was a different story. As I proceeded to climb on the grapevine, I noticed that the temperature started to rise and was going into the red! I was able to pull over at a gas station thinking my fluids were possibly low. I waited for a bit and topped off the radiator and went on my way. I thought it did the trick until about 5 minutes later, the temperature started to climb north once again. Miraculously, I was able to hobble stopping every so often until I got to Bakersfield. At this point, I started to call friends that are mechanics only to tell me that it sounds like a major problem and to stay the night and have it looked at in the morning. The people at the hotel suggested Scotty's and I figured I'd give him a call. He didn't answer right away so I tried 2 other auto repair places and Scotty's in between each call. One was a diesel mechanic and the other said he was booked for at least 2 days. On my third try, he answered and asked me to meet him in 30 minutes. Scotty looks it over and gave me some possibilities as well and actually dropped some of the other vehicles he was working to diagnose my vehicle. He found the problem and actually saved the day for me! He could have easily made money from me by telling me that the work needed was the same as what my mechanic friends told me. He opted to be honest rather than trying to make some extra money on someone he will never see again. His rates were exceptional and his work is very good. I cannot say enough good things about Scotty and his workmanship. I had both my daughters car as well as my own towed here after some foreign substance was put in both our gas tanks. He proceeded to have my daughters car up and running within a day or two at an extremely reasonable price, because I filed an insurance claim on mine it took a little longer as he negotiated with the insurance company on my behalf to cover items that they were refusing to cover. Being a woman I have had difficulty in the past finding trustworthy and honest mechanics to work on my vehicles....I feel so fortunate to have found Scotty and his shop, will definitely be returning for all my automotive needs!

Great experience at this place. Scotty diagnosed and fixed my car in less than 24 hours. He stayed a little extra after hours so I could pick up a car rental. Needed my evaporator core replaced on my 2012 Ram. Spoke with Scotty on 6/11, he quoted me the fairest estimate with the soonest completion date after calling multiple other shops in town!
