Do not leave your car here unless you want your tire stolen off your car and left on a cinder block and then be required to pay for the missing tire. I was spoken to very condescendingly by Chuck and told over and over again that he won't be making any money off of my tire which seemed very obvious to me...why would he make any money off of a tire that was stolen from his property? I paid $250 for the tire and wheel PLUS the cost and labor of a starter. He should have paid for my tire himself. He has no gates, no camera (that are plugged in) and he leaves nice cars with brand new tires right by the road as if to say "Free Tires Anyone?" I will never be back and will recommend that no one goes here.

Luck smiled on me when I pulled in with my brakes shot to hell. They had my car running again in a few days for a reasonable price considering the work that had to be done. I was also leaking gas for some reason and they noticed and fixed that issue as well. They are always busy but apparently it seems like its for a reason.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Especially if you’re a woman. My check engine light was on and when I went to fill my gas tank up, my car wouldn’t start. I made Chuck aware of both issues and he assured me it was the starter. Obviously I don’t know much about cars but that’s exactly why I would turn to someone who’s an “expert”. Scammed me into getting a new starter and now I’m back at the gas station with the exact same problem. He said that he wasn’t aware of the check engine light being on… How when not only I verbally told you, showed you the codes that pulled up from AutoZone, consented to you doing a diagnostic engine light check, and you told me you would fix the problem and turn it off? He insisted he can check it again but if it’s not the starter, I would have to pay more?? Why would I pay extra for a problem you were supposed to initially fix? He doesn’t even know the brand of the starter he installed in my car. $450 down the drain while he gets to go work everyday and I have to miss out on my money while having a little one to take care of. I went to get my car checked by a credible, reputable mechanic, and the issue had NOTHING to do with the starter. To make matters worse, the actual issue to be repaired cost way less so it makes sense they wanted a quick come-up before they closed for the weekend. Never again and would never recommend.

While on a family vacation in New Orleans our thermostat housing ruptured. Upon recommendation of the tow truck driver I had our vehicle towed to Smling Chuck's (though, it was after hours). The next morning I called the shop before they opened and Chuck answered the phone. I explained what I believed was the problem, he explained he wanted to verify. Good! He doesn't know if I have clue. Dillon called back to confirm my diagnosis. I asked to the cost and he gave me an itemized rundown and total. Parts were in keeping with my research (no up charge) and labor was within the norm. I perform most auto work myself, as I have trust issues and a hard time justifying paying for things I can easily do myself...and I had all the necessary tools with me. However, Chuck restored some of my trust. He performed the work himself and prioritized my repair , because of a checkout time pinch, with no upcharge or upset. I am thankful for Smiiing Chuck's honesty, fairness and accommodation. And would recommend Smiling Chuck's for automotive repairs in New Orleans. .

This review is long overdue. I lived in the neighborhood so I went there for the convenience. I also had been to a my toyota dealer, and a recommended mechanic. Their diagnosis was 1000 bucks in oxygen sensors. I reluctantly forked over the money, and my engine light was still on. Then I meet Chuck. He runs the diagnostic, for free, and says it is one of two problems. Either a cracked hose or something he would have to troubleshoot. He tells me he can get to me tomorrow. His shop assistant says he will take a look real quick. He pops the hood, starts the car, removes the engine guard... And IMMEDIATELY heard a hose with a leak. He fixed me in 10 minutes, reset my car and said to not worry about paying him until I drove it around for a few days to see if that fixed my problem. You won't find a mechanic this honest. The real deal. Do yourself a favor and let him do his job. He doesn't overcharge, gets results. If he needs your input, he will ask. You won't find a mechanic rated better than him and his team.

Worst shop to go. They will try to rob you. I took my car to their shop as it started shaking on ear heart blvd. I mentioned the guy that one of the ignition coils went bad as it happened already and two of them were changed before. He called me later and quoted me for 450$ fo changing one ignition coil. I told him I got it fixed before for 175$ at another shop in Elmwood which is closer to my home. However, he was so rude and told this is my shop and this is how I charge. I told him that I don't want him to replace the coil as I know it was two expensive. Later when I went to his shop he charged me 136$(110$ inspection and 26 tax) as inspection charge. I am not sure why I got charged 26$ as tax on 110$ charge. Don't go to this shop. I went to this shop by looking at googles reviews and rating. Later I got two coils fixed instead of one for just 300$ at other shop.

I was a desperate traveler. On the road traveling and my brakes went out. I picked Smiling Chuck’s because of location. Without references. I was extremely lucky! Dylan realized my desperation and managed to squeeze me in that day and got me fixed up at a very fair price! The problem was explained in detail. He gave me all options and I was good to go in a few hours! I definitely recommend Smiling Chuck’s and will keep them in my file for future travels in this area!

Chuck fit me in when I had an emergency. He looked at my vehicle immediately, and instead of trying to sell me costly repairs, noticed a small issue and fixed that first. When the problem cleared up after the small repair, he charged me a fair price. Great mechanic: ethical, knowledgeable, and capable. Would definitely recommend!

These guys are great. They repaired the underside of my car a few months ago fast and reasonable. Had to go here today to get a bad tire I got yesterday at a shady place I went to on Claiborne out of desperation, fixed. They fixed my tire fast and cheap. Highly recommend smiling chucks, especially as a girl who knows nothing about cars.

Chuck Hamback has been fixing my car since he moved his business here 10 years or so ago. I've found him to be a completely competent mechanic, honest, reliable, and friendly. Also, he seems to limit his clientele so that your car is repaired much more quickly than you can expect from a large shop or dealership. I'm very cynical about mechanics, and I've never felt that Chuck has been less than honest. His prices are reasonable. I feel I get good value for my money.

Chuck lied to me multiple times. His shop is incompetent. They are certainly incapable of fixing Germain cars and I suspect they can't do much besides take a nail out of a tire.

Four new tires at a great price, and even with an oil change and tweaks, price came in well under budget. I can see them working hard! I didn't have to wait for anyone else's car just the work they did on my own. Great prices and super knowledgeable staff. They also gave me a great tow referral who was fast and efficient. I needed a relatively simple repair done (replace thermostat) so I stopped at Smiling Chuck's yesterday afternoon, based on the recommendation of others. I enjoyed chatting with Chuck for a while. He said I could bring the car in the next morning and he would get it done. I was there at 8am this morning and he called me at 11am to let me know I could come pick the car up. Quick, good price, good folks. I'll be back.
